USC Morning Buzz: Jalen Greene Could Be Emergency Quarterback

In my analysis, I look at the idea wide receiver Jalen Greene could play quarterback in a game even without practicing the position.

I think he’s always ready to play,” quarterbacks coach Tyson Helton said. “I don’t think he has to get reps. He could come in and play right away (without practice).”

It shows USC might have a plan if Sam Darnold has an injury besides using Matt Fink or even Jack Sears. Full story here

  1. Jalen is such a loyal Trojan when so many other quarterbacks would have transferred.

    • Great point, gt. Before this year is over, though, both Jalen and USC will be very happy he stayed.

    • Browne was more loyal than Greene, and look what happen to him: the bozo u family ostracized him and force him to xfer.

Greene sounds like a person unfamiliar with bozo U history and, as a result, doomed to repeat it.

  2. Great one liner by Whicker in todays -Daily n3w$ and d@ily br33z3 about former USC head coaches specific to Nico Falah ‘…lots of players have had three different head coaches. Few have seen two of them fired in mid-season. It’s 2 a.m.. Do you know where your coach is? For ex-athletic director Pat Haden that was a significant reason to hire Clay Helton….’

Of the two Sarkisian was definitely the worse esp. his self-pitying crying about his booze binging….hey what’s the latest on Sark’s lawsuit?

    • Very few people knew this, Alv —-until now! Over the last year and two months, Sark radically downsized his claims against the school —finally requesting only ONE benefit: a fifty foot statute of Hecuba erected on campus in his memory.

      • Hah! Good one Mike – fool he was to have made any post-firing claim against USC. We all make mistakes and the higher the profile the more indelible the error on one’s soul.

Here’s to his doing well with the Falcons and have to hand it to him of knowing real fast he didn’t want anything to do with Sabin – it’s going to be real he)) for anyone working for Nick Sabin this year – anyone.

        • So true, Alv! It sorta seems that we’re the ONLY two people on this blog who see what’s down the road for Alabama this season. A few days ago you made mention of the fact that it’s really difficult for any institution to field a championship team year in and year out. Throw in the fact that Alabama has had THREE offensive coordinators in the last year and is led by a quarterback who has yet to fully grow into the job —–and they’ve got trouble.

          • Yeah Mike – I remember Joe Torre after the 2000 season defeating the NYM and ‘mr. humble’ Jeter mouthing off how’d he like to win year after year after year – Torre’s reply “He has no idea how difficult this is!”

          • That is a GREAT quote, Alv. I intend to pass it on to my son. A huge number of things have to fall into place in order for a team—or individual– to come out on top in a contest of skill. Most of those things are within one’s control—but not all. Sometimes you need a bit of help from upstairs, too.

          • Yes and no – I don’t believe too much the Lord enters into a skill set. That great quote of the basketball player asking the priest if he prayed wold it make him a better ball player to which the priest replied “Yeah if you can shoot!”

‘Maybe’ but for me it’s still is on you

          • I get what you’re saying, Alv. And I hate the automatic, insincere “First I’d like to thank God” remarks you get from so many athletes after scoring a victory. But to quote a dead, very white person, “There are more things between heaven and earth than are dreamt of in philosophy….”

  3. I think Green will stand out in different way this year. Never underestimate the versatility of an athletic, strong QB. Even as a WR, I love how this guy went at DBs in blocking and when he got the ball. A very confident player, wherever they line him up – and that is such a huge bonus on a team that will still be looking for young unproven guys to step up. J Green, Nwosu, Ware, Loabadahn – I think these will be largely unheralded but critical pieces of this team.

  4. It’s just pieces of the puzzle that the coaching staff has to be prepared to implement when something unforeseen happens. You have to use what talents are available that you can reasonably trust.

  5. Scotty, did we REALLY need an ENTIRE article about whether the 4th string QB is ready to play???

rather, we could be discussing GoT episode 6 which is shaping up to be a DOOZY!!!

  6. If Jalen is in the running for what basically is back up QB if Sam goes down, then that doesn’t say much for the Helton’s confidence in Fink or Sears when it’s crunch time, does it?

It also raises this question; if Jalen offers a unique athletic talent, why not incorporate it into a few plays to throw teams off balance instead of waiting for an emergency?

    • I’m pretty sure he was used for a few “special” plays last year. I’m sure more will be in store for this year.

      • I recall those plays. I’m talking about him running plays as a QB, not from the receiver spot to be used on a “gadget” play.

        • I recall him running a couple plays in “wildcat” formation last year near the goal line.

      • San Darnold did the same before moving to #1.. Fink maybe a tad slow to confefe the plays that Helton is wanting to do during live games .. Jalen ..

  7. “It shows USC might have a plan….” This sounds like a guess and not actual reporting.

    • Today Golly Noid unveils a new sock puppet after his Fight On and RoseBowlBound sock puppets were outed.

  8. So the plan is to don’t practice and just blindly hope for the best??!! Sounds like southern cal! Puhahahahaahah

  9. Another reminder to those who were duped into voting for the windbagpipe Trumper:
Your president is showing support for and emboldening WHITE SUPREMACISTS by not quickly and unequivocally condemning them and, instead, making excuses for YOU…er, I mean “them.”

He campaigned on bringing the nation together (I was never fooled by that lie, but you were), yet he has divided us potentially beyond repair.

    • Oh professor nutbag…. A bird in the wind shared it was a Ucla ruin democrat alum who orchestrated the craziness in Charlottesville . #andimneverwrong

      • Best to leave him alone, Heisman 7. He’s working on another paper for that tough extension course he’s taking at UCLA. I know we’re only being treated to the barest outline here, but it appears like he’s headed for another “A+” ………

          • Oh .. Poor little guttie thinks he is smarter. Hey pinhead you are no match.. Sadly Ucla is about to get bad news.. Being connected to an alum that creates violence worldwide because his feelings were hurt .. His grand wizard “The Dawn” killer of Seth Rich is about to go down in flames. Just like your football program..Haa Haaaa,… Poor ol’ Rosen will be known as the loser qb and student athlete he is. 5’7 245.. WOW.. Must eat with two hands.. Night FATBOY!

          • Jesus Criminy! You’re just now letting me know you’re a
loon i.e. bin #conspiracytheorist ?? I would’ve stopped responding much sooner if you had outed yourself. Thanks a lot, buddy!

          • Nope pinhead.. Will connected and informed.. You wait.. 7 knows more than most ..

  10. Coach Tyson is just playing “psychological” games on his opponents to catch them off guard. Marvelous plan, Coach Tyson Helton!
