Depth Chart Update

If you listen to the coaches, they act like first-team reps don’t matter when deciding who starts. So why is Steven Mitchell getting first-team reps over Tyler Vaughns?

If USC started a game today, the starting receivers would be Deontay Burnett, Jalen Greene and Mitchell. It’s a perseverance crew: Greene was a quarterback in high school; Burnett was almost an afterthought when he came to USC in the shadow of higher-ranked Serra players and Mitchell’s overcome two knee surgeries.

“Deontay Burnett, Jalen Greene and Steven Mitchell” ?

Those are the exact 3 that I would Start !

Tons of Experience and Tons of Talent !!!

    Call them the “Fantastic 3″…

    FightOn

    • JustOwns

Will the “Fantastic 3” get free “Walk through” jerseys?

      • Grammymb

Yes. So they can use them on their 80 yard practice field.

        • The USC Heisman 7

          Lol..

        • JustOwns

UCLA FB doesn’t practice on an 80 yard FB field.

Obviously, you missed new Bruin FB complex grand opening because you were camped out 3 weeks early at Hecuba the Hussy statue so you wouldn’t miss the ceremonial dedication.

No doubt you wore your Bozo u, Ripple and Puke “Walk through” jersey non stop for 3 weeks.

          • Grammymb

#UCLA’s practice field being dug up with Wasserman Center about two months from completion. Yes, it’s still going to be 80 yards in length.

Or maybe you’re confused because they lowered the wall by 30 inches so your OL can finally get over it to get to the movie quicker.

          • JustOwns

LOL. Another closet bozo u, Bruin fan.

The Wasserman facility doesn’t require high walls like the bozo practice field to block stray bullets and provide cover from random drive- by gunfire.

bozo u/Keck Medical School, world renown let’s party and gunshot hospital.

      • The USC Heisman 7

Sanctions coming your way! Bye bye ruins.

  • Jack B

I really like USC’s football staff. They’ve got the right guys starting at WR. Perfect.

  • fryer tuck

3 exceptionally talented Trojans. Somewhere around 30 receptions per game among them.

    • Pudly76

Wow, seems high, what about the rest? TE, WR, RB? That’s a little high in my estimation, but hey, if it works out, great!! Fight On!

  • USC jojo

soooooo, did you forget to show us the updated depth chart?
Were they named the starters, by the coaching staff, for the first game?
Your post should have been titled, “Your Guess Is As Good As Mine.”

    • Clay Russell

Really… “listen” and “they act”??? Did they say it or are they acting like it??

    • Pudly76

      Maybe better.

      • Sas

Adam Maya says Josh Imatorbhebhe had his best week of practice since arriving to SC. Damn good to hear.

        • Pudly76

Finally, he’s had some sort of health issues this spring and early summer, and his development was setback. I’m glad the “lights are coming on”, as Helton said. His ceiling was always supposed to be higher than his brothers, wouldn’t that be something to see!!
I’m curious to see how Steven Mitchell works as a WR, with Burnett and Green. Just think he might be small on the outside and be easily held up at the line or redirected in his pattern…hope it works out.

          • Sas

Yep. WR is a very interesting group right now. Anyone’s ball game it seems.

          • Pudly76

Anyone and everyone has a chance right now.. let’s see how it works out. I’m excited!

          • Sas

Me too. Lots of talent. Just as a question of who will it be?

          • Pudly76

Vaughns to start, then later I think Pittman shows up..but I can see three or four more with 10-15 catches.

        • Pudly76

          How’s baseball going?

          • Sas

Got blown out in the first gane..
Won the second . We play tomorrow. We’re learning. We are an 11 and under team against 12 and under kids. But there’s a team called the SC Trojans. The have the authentic hat’s, jersey’s and pants. Pretty cool. Thanks for asking bud!

          • Pudly76

My girls played over in age group too. Builds character facing older, bigger more physical kids.

          • Sas

Definitely. We want to throw them to the fire. Keep them together all the way through high school.

  • Clay Russell

I think there is probably a benefit to having the people who know the playbook best up front. Hopefully these veteran guys are pulling the younger guys’ coats and bringing them along. I wouldn’t draw too many conclusions from who’s up front in practice right now.

Whether or not he starts, I sincerely hope to see that Steven Mitchell is available for every game this year.

  • Sas

    WE is onto something there.
But I just read a few days ago that Tyler Vaughns was a starter. Helton is putting out the vibe that he wants to keep the peace. Remember MAX & SAM?

    • Pudly76

Sometimes, it’s not about the first play (starting), it’s about production when it counts. I’ve seen many coaches, who at some positions, will start upperclassmen as a reward for hard work and dedication, doesn’t mean they get bulk of the plays if they don’t produce…
Btw, wasn’t Dorton listed as a starter last year? How many games did he start?

      • Sas

Very true. Dorton was a starter and we didn’t here anything from him after week 2.

        • Pudly76

He was listed as a starter all year, but we never much played three down linemen.

          • Sas

He never played after the 2nd or 3rd game.

          • Pudly76

Too small? He’s quick but doesn’t really fit Clancy’s style of defense..

          • Sas

I thought he was too small also

  • Ignore_the_trolls

Sounds like the guys that wanted to fight and compete for it and prevailed — Trojans!

  • Pete

SW. How do you know that Deontay Burnett was almost a afterthought? What is a ” almost afterthought”? Why don’t you ask whether USC mascot Traveler 7 should have his named change. I’ll let you figure out what why. I suspect you won’t attempt to answer the question.

  • joeybbadd

A guy with no clue is questioning a bunch of guys who have a clue? Hilarious.

  • Pasadena Trojan

Scooter, Vaughns will play this year. The coaching staff will ease him into the games. Next year he will start

  • Laker Rod

Hasn’t Mitchell been out recovering from his ACL injury. It’s been slightly less than a year since he injured it. Perhaps the coaches want to get Mitchell up to speed as much as possible before the season starts but yet will still hold him back and won’t play much until they feel he is fully recovered.

  • steveg

My money says Greene is going to become the go to guy. So much talent and desire. Watch him light it up this season.
