Return Of The Superfan

Here’s Colin Cowherd talking to Clay Helton today at the USC scrimmage. He gets a one-on-one audience. But does he ever tell Helton he wanted him fired a year ago?

Somebody sound a little jealous about the one-on-one?

  • SCgrad12

Poor, little, Wolfie. Nobody at USC gives him the time of day. Booo Hooo.

  • LAfan

Didn’t he post this last week?

    • Pudly76

And the week before, and the week…

  • Jack B

After that STAN flop last year, a lot of us wanted Helton torched. In fact if you didn’t, you needed your head examined. USC stunk.

It was then that Swann stepped in and set Helton straight. Fast forward to the hottest, most talked about team in the country – USC.

Cowherd and Christine Leahy have a really good show. Their ratings are through the roof nowadays! Cowherd’s a huge Trojan honk and a great friend to have in the media. He gives USC more pub every week than everyone else combined.

    • Arturo

The media bias against SC is pretty bad.

  • Alvarado

I don’t know for me Scott doesn’t sound any different than Papadakis did when anyone asked him (Petros) about Pete Carroll.

    • Pudly76

Poor Petros, guess Pete didn’t quite like snark week.

      • Alvarado

I love ‘the P’ because he’ll go where no one else will… ex. last week he pinned Fred Rogin to the mat re. Joel Meyers (me I love me some Joel Meyers)…Rogin came back with “Why do you do this?” To which ‘P’ said “Come on Fred say something!”

The ‘P’ is the king ‘but’ the ‘P’ is also out as a lead announcer for the: USC Trojans mens basketball…..

Matt Money Smith is now the lead radio announcer for the Chargers on 640 AM.

Live and learn and some just live

        • Pudly76

I love me some Petros too. Sometimes he’s stupid funny and sometimes just stupid. But his zest for life is great..I especially like his father. Great Trojan. Well maybe good Trojan.

          • Alvarado

Pudly I love ‘P’ but sorry his father is truly the rear end of a horse backing out of a barn. He took over the ‘USC -ucla’ south bay luncheon the day before the game some 6 years ago held at the Hilton. ‘John’ the boorish moron, took over the entire presentation w. Donahue et. al. present. He went on about the game this year 1967 – John was still in high school but hey that meant nothing for John Papadakis. You ask anyone who has had to deal personally with that clown – not interested. Takes over every conversation – just listen to him any Friday evening when ‘P’ and Matt Money Smith both get a 30 minute break because the fool is in play.

          • Pudly76

I’ll defer to your better judgment as I haven’t met him, only listened.

          • Alvarado

I was at USC when he was there – a real loser

  • 04Trojan

    Stalker alert! Back off, Flow.

    • marvgoux1

      Cowherd?

      • Pudly76

        Hi Marv.

  • Arturo

CC: Hey, Coach Helton, I was pretty brutal on you about a year ago.

CH: Don’t worry about it, Colin, you were just doing your job.

    CC: Now, about this season…..

And CH wins over another doubter.

I, as a fan, want to apologize to Coach Helton for doubting him at first. I will support before I criticize.

    • Pudly76

Always easy to doubt someone who hasn’t the experience. Almost a natural reaction, especially considering what we were going through.
      Fight On!

  • JustOwns

    Shill in the bozo house.

    • The USC Heisman 7

Aren’t you late to your LGBTQ meeting burger flipper ? You sure love spending time on the USC blog.

A word of advice..Get lost til your ruins win a legitimate NC in football.. .5 for participation does not count..

      #sanctionscoming

      • Pudly76

Funny story, the press in Michigan have filed a freedom of information act suit against UM because they haven’t even released their current roster..

        • Jack B

Love it. No wonder Harbaugh was able to embarrass Carroll. Dude is committed.

          • Pudly76

Either that or needs to be committed. None the less, he sure knows how to work the press, his team is being picked in the middle of the conference and he still manages to get Michigan in the news.

          • Jack B

The current MICH squad is really young. Harbaugh needs to beat OHIO ST, especially after last year’s heartbreaker.

He is a master at attention and tweaking. MICH is a lot better with him, that’s all I know. And his first big improbable upset of USC was a thing of beauty for STAN. That one game changed everything between the two schools and USC is still trying to recover.

I’m all on board for Helton. But he’s still got a lot to prove. If he loses to either STAN or TEXAS in Sept, God help him.

          • Pudly76

True that. But I still think that last Td was offensive pass interference. But it changed the culture of stanfurd football, and exposed a weakness that not many saw coming. Much to my disappointment, it showed how soft the team had gotten. Seemed like they started living on their laurels and weren’t prepared for the fight.

          • The USC Heisman 7

            Lol

          • Michael Guarino

It helped Stanford that Booty was playing with a seriously injured throwing hand. Without those 4 or 5 interceptions, USC kicks butt.

          • Pudly76

Since then the mentality has been wrong footed,as far as I’m concerned. Sanctions be damned, but when our lines are man handled, and it’s happened too much recently, things have got to change. If we handle the stanfurd lines, we’ll whip em.

          • Michael Guarino

And we will, my friend. Bet on it.

          • Jack B

That’s like saying without Darnold, PSU wins the Rose Bowl. Problem is..,USC had Darnold. Booty hurt his hand, USC had no capable backup and suffered the biggest upset defeat in its history.

Truth is, USC was In decline, as later years would prove. Booty was always over-rated. I was glad when he disappeared into his non-NFL future. Sometimes, he was just painful to watch. Worst USC QB since Palmer for sure.

          • Michael Guarino

Ha! Guys with your ‘no excuses’ attitude make better coaches than guys with my attitude. I coached (and played on) a touch football team in Walnut Creek and my “accept any excuse so as not to hurt anybody’s feelings” approach resulted in the saddest, least disciplined bunch of crybabies ever assembled.

          • Jack B

After all this probation nonsense (it was going on for many years before the verdict, remember), I’m all for no excuses ever again. Stuff happens. Greatness overcomes it. We’ve got a shot to do that now and in effect show the NCAA, the non-supportive Pac-12 and the jealous college football world, they couldn’t kill us, in spades.

USC has no excuses now. We’re basically at full strength with the greatest QB (a total windfall there) we’ve ever had. Now’s our time. I think we have a really good staff, a good HC and some amazing talent, a lot of which will bolt after this season. This is it. We can win it all. No excuses. The table is perfectly set. Fantastic home schedule. Fight On!

          • Pudly76

Omg, finally, it drives me nuts when I hear commentators say he’s a very good qb. Bullpucky! Never thought he came close to the hype, and always felt we would have been much further ahead recruiting a different qb. But that’s the way the coaches went.

          • marvgoux1

The story is that Spaulding put him back in even though he had a broken finger.

          • Pudly76

My real hope is, and we’ll find out this year, that our line coach Calloway is the real deal and he’ll have his guys ready to go toe to toe with furd, Texas, and ND.

          • Michael Guarino

Calloway HAS to be the man with the plan this season, Pudly, or everything else goes south. I, for one, think he’s gonna have the line ready for all 3 of the teams you mentioned —none of which have truly great d-lines. Utah is another story—but we’ll be battle tested and ready.

          • UtahTrojan

Don’t forget Utah. They always have a tough D Line.

          • Pudly76

Not forgetting them, just that with Sam and an offensive line that gets to the second level, Utah doesn’t stand much of a chance. Good as their line always is, we have skill talent that they can’t match. They’re big and tough, no doubt, but they just don’t match up anywhere else. IMHO.

          • Michael Guarino

I didn’t want to be the one that wrote that last line, Pudly —–but, yeah, you’re exactly right —-Utah has a top 10 (maybe even top 5) D-line—but we have ’em beat in every other department. And our d-line ain’t chopped liver, either!

          • Pudly76

Utah is always tough, they reflect their coach and they’re going to be tough again. Their line play fuels their running game and makes them hard to beat. But don’t we get them at home this year? Last time they came to LA they were third ranked, and our skill players overwhelmed them. Cam had 3 interceptions and we blew them out.

          • Michael Guarino

Yep —they come to the Coliseum (and we get Oregon State at home the week before)!
We’re in good shape to do what we did in 2015 all over again!

          • marvgoux1

They aren’t the same team on the road. They barely outlasted fuucla without Rosen last year.

          • Pudly76

Agree, two years ago we walloped them behind Cam’s 3 INTs., when they were ranked #3.

          • marvgoux1

Loved that game. We exposed them as a fake for all of college football to see. We drove the will to compete out of their quarterback.

          • Pudly76

Wasn’t he the qb at San Clemente before Sam. Poor guy couldn’t read the defense to save his soul.

          • Michael Guarino

Absolutely correct—and this year’s bunch is no exception. Hugely talented group.

  • LamontRaymond

That’s why Helton is the bigger man. He’s not worried about petty crap like that. He’s a loved coach – unlike Saban, Meyer, etc. Might not be as good as those coaches, but people love the man. Refreshing after Kiffin & Sark.

    • Pudly76

How true, wonder how those other coaches would do in LA? This isn’t a backwater college town and coaches don’t own the press here.

    • Pat

Gomer is just happy to have this job … never did anything to deserve it just happen to be in the wake of the Goat Kiffin/Suck disasters. He will be gone shortly after Darnold. Needs to get on a diet too … looking Sark like

  • Pudly76

Yea, read it this evening, they’re all complaining because he never put out a depth chart, so now he didn’t even put out a roster.

    • The USC Heisman 7

      Typical Harbaugh. Lol. .

  • Pudly76

Team #45 USC just retweeted hudl film of Justin Fields. Sure’ be nice to get him too.

    • Sas

      That means he wants him!

      • Pudly76

Not so sure what you mean. I’m not sure that Team 45 USC is even a player or coach. The video is impressive though.

        • Sas

That means #45 is aware of Fields and wants him at USC.

          • Pudly76

They’re aware of many players, they post video of hundreds of kids from all over. Would be nice if he (Justin) was still interested, that’s for sure!

          • Sas

I think he’ll visit. We’ll go from there.

          • Pudly76

I watched video, not sure if I was more impressed by his arm or wheels. Quite the player!

          • Pudly76

Issac Taylor-Stewart and Devon Williams just made 5* at rivals.

  • Hector of Troy

Two Pros. CC doesn’t lurk around the press scrum like a pudgy soccer fan asking for an autograph.

  • j metaphor

    Coach Clay,
You may want to go with a darker color shirt or hop into the weight room with your team. They do have cameras at practice, dude.
P.S. I think you have your shorts on backwards, your XXL Nike tag is hanging out the front
