USC Morning Buzz: If It’s Friday, It’s Time For The Notes Column

Time for the weekly notes column, where I mention a couple players I think could be a surprise this season. Since few teams receive the attention USC does, I didn’t go for new starters because they will not really be surprises. But I really like the first player I mention in the column.

I also have items on Todd McNair’s court case, “Jaguar” Jon Arnett and a little basketball too. Full column here.

  1. Grad student Jacob Kelly corpse found in dorm on the medical school campus – decomposing body drew a janitor to investigate. Today’s Daily &ews.

    • The information shared it was at a off campus dorm at the medical center in DTLA .. Not on the USC campus which is 5 miles from the medical school campus..

        • Lol.. I know… The trolls have not chirped yet… If they read it more than once .. It must be true.. They seem to have their own narrative when USC is mentioned.

          • Yeah true Heis but facts they be facts…it isn’t so much the trolls it’s those worthless antifa clowns that control the LA(imes…that hit piece last Monday by ‘Christopher’ Hawthorne – a trust fund elitist – who writes so loftily of ‘moderne’ architecture while mocking the new village. On and on with the (imes

          • LAT said natural causes. I was out there yesterday. There’s a ton of new construction. Great facilities. Great doctors. Carmine soiled a great medical institution.

          • Nothing funny about that situation 7. I know you like to talk about the professor that was killed by an ex student at UCLA but no one wants to sink down to your level.
Now if you want to talk about your Medical Dean hosting drug parties on campus, I’m all in!

          • Hey.. When shots are fired at my school from outsiders..well I hit back, truth is Ucla has more issues than any school in the country.. It is what it is.. USC is the benchmark but never could be achieved by you ..thats why you and those that want USC to fail .. Speak negative.. Sadly a good dude was killed by a student with issues…Speaking of issues, Sanctions are coming.. Good luck, it had to be done!

  2. A few years ago my older brother and I were walking at the torch end of the coliseum and my brother spotted Jon Arnett, He was a real gentleman and signed autographs for us. Thus proving old Trojans never die.

    • Jon is a good dude, known the Arnett’s for many years.. In his 80’s living in the Pacific Northwest with his wife, Jane..

    • Question here, Oldy.
If they don’t die, what happens to them?
Do they go to Trojan Heaven or are they like Zombies?
If they go to Trojan Heaven, is it still in a bad part of town?
I wouldn’t imagine so, if it’s really heaven, it must be like between Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.

      • To be honest I hope I don’t find out too soon. Being a zombie is only slightly unappealing and my belief leads me to heaven.
My parents both were Trojans and in physical sense they have both have passed on. However they are fondly remembered they haven’t died yet.

  3. Jon is probably the most memorable having also played for the Rams …but what about the first Rose Bowl win in ’53 over the Big 10 Wisconsin and their all American Alan ‘the horse Amache? Al Carmichael caught the lone score a pass from Rudy Bukich, he also caught the first td pass in the old AFL….he too was a 50’s memorable ,like

    • Nice piece, Yale. It sure was fun to come out of the Coliseum tunnel as a kid and see the Trojans in those beautiful cardinal and gold uniforms warming up on the field.
I really urge every Trojan fan who didn’t get a chance to see Jon Arnett play football to go to YouTube and check him out. No one looked better on a long, zig zag run to the end zone than Jon.

      • I think he was also a gymnast and had exceptional balance to go with his speed, which he had plenty of …

        • The gymnast thing makes sense —he almost tilted all the way to the ground on those sharp cuts —but he kept upright, shifting his balance by extending his free arm outward. Amazing, intelligent runner.

          • Before steroids turned high school and college players into behemoths in the mid 1970s they depended more on technique and coordination than size, strength and speed.

          • You’re right, marv. You’ll never get tired of watching Jon, O.J. or A.D. glide thru traffic.
            Poetry in motion.

  4. If the season started today Derryck Thornton would be a backup. Thank goodness we have a man on the inside. You have to be deeply embedded with a team to know their excellent 3-year starter at point guard hasn’t lost his job in summer camp.

  5. Seen that write-up in the )imes this a.m.? The kid from AL – Brandon Pili – DT? The kid hails from Barrow-AK – 250 miles north of the Artic Circle…transferred to an Oregon HS for his senior year and chose USC because of Keneche Udezi strong effort to get him.

  6. Hope McNair doesn’t settle with a Confidentiality Agreement, but sees this thru and publically exposes the Criminals.

      • Maybe we can all chip in $100 and help him make it all the way to trial, gt. The NCAA richly deserves all their dirty laundry being brought out into the sunlight —-where everybody can see it and everybody can smell it….

      • I heard a rumor that he already rejected a settlement offer last year and that someone may be funding him to continue on, have no idea if this is factual or fake news.

        • Yeah! There’s gotta be more than a few folks out there who stand to gain if this thing ends up with a big verdict against the NCAA…

          • And there are lots of us who can’t wait for all of the dirt to get out on the table.
St. Pat may like to raid charity piggy banks but you can thank him for not suing the NCAA and letting all of the the SC cats out of the closet

  7. If Cary Angeline, at tight end, is that fast for his size, then it would be an advantage since a linebacker would probably have to cover him. Will McNair’s case ever get started? He should make the NCAA pay for stringing the case out like this. Hope he hired the nastiest lawyer he could find!

          • I know exactly how ya feel.
Palaie Gaoteote plays tonight on ESPN. So at least we get some form of Trojan football!

          • Yup, and BG plays MD next week, I’m pretty sure that’ll be a head knocker, two top linebackers in the class!!

          • I came home Friday and fell asleep. How did Palaie Gaoteote look?
And the BG vs. MD game has big time talent on the field that almost has a Long Beach Poly/DeLaSalle feel to it.

            USC
Palaie Gaoteote -#1 LB in the nation.
Solomon Tuliaupupu-#3 ILB in the nation.
Amon Ra St. Brown-#1 WR in the nation.
JT Daniels-#1 Overall Player/#1 QB in the nation

Those are pieces to a National Championship right there!

          • Hey Sam,
PG looked pretty good, a real sideline to sideline guy..he likes contact. Seemed to overrun a couple of plays, but it’s early in the season and he’s in high school, so that’s ok. Hard to really see the defense sometimes because the coverage is all about the ball, not like the all-22 type film I’d rather watch.

          • Great game on Friday. I’ll be pulling for the future Trojans and for them to stay healthy!

          • Yeah it is. It’s a game I’d like to see. I asked my dad to go. That’s a big ? But after my son said he was in I told him it’s all riding on grandpa. Future stars in that one.

          • I love games at the old Santa Ana Bowl..beautiful night for a game.. Maybe I’ll go, depending on the wife.

          • Cool! I’ve never been there. It’s big, but they underestimated the crowd or want to keep the home field advantage which is a great idea. Do you anticipate it to be difficult game to get into?

          • I’d call school to get tickets if I was you, MD has a great following especially in games like this. Actually, I’m surprised they didn’t play it at Anaheim stadium. I was at a MD vs Poly game that had 32,000.

          • Definitely a “Stadium” game and MD is for sure a “stadium” program. I need my son to work his magic on my dad.

          • Thanks. You too. If not we’re going over to watch it with him. He loves these games. He always watching John Jackson on Friday nights during the season.

          • He looked good. Amazing to see a highly recruited QB starting his first game ever.

          • Should be a real showdown Friday with Gorman at Mater Dei.
Both teams with D1 talent all over the field.

  8. Whomever calls that “valuable” info on the McNair case is truly starved and has been living in a closet for a year at least. No insight whatsoever.
