Biggie Marshall with his patented falling over for no reason. Great job missing that pick 6.
Refs getting in the game with that terrible chop block call…
Toa needs to be benched. He is getting beat badly.
Is he regressing?
Toa is just not a LT. His footwork and strength looks sub-pair. We need to move him to guard as a utility player.
Okay –it’s early. But our offense has no identity —and that’s on Helton.
Yes. I agree. The kids are soft today. It looks like Western Michigan all over again.
Is it possible that Helton doesn’t know how to coach as a front runner? He’s been on his heals in every game except Stanford. The team isn’t playing with a trace of emotion.
And it looks like Tee Martin has failed again. Cal’s defense knows every play. Unprepared!!!! What a joke.
Cal knows ALL our weak links (and Helton didn’t see it coming?)
That 11 Wonderlic of Tee’s is coming back to haunt us.
He’s been acting like he KNOWS he’s over his head for the last 3 weeks (and don’t think he isn’t conveying that to the team). What’s up? I thought he got it together last year.
Me too. I thought we would blow Cal out by halftime.
The team seems demoralized. But why? What’s up? Cal is missing their best runner and their best receiver. They shouldn’t be even in this game.
If Helton and company can’t get the team jacked up for the second half (and if Clancy can’t remind his corners it’s best not to let receivers get behind them on every play), we’re flirting with a ridiculous result.
I thought they would be psyched after the great Texas finish. They acted like they lost last week the way they sleep walked through the first half.
Once again….When is Chris Hawkins gonna start playing like he deserves to be out there.
And Tell just got punked on that 4th down. The DLine can’t get going and the guys behind them are struggling to even make a tackle.
Houston should’ve made that stop.
I saw that. Clancy is starting to use outside pressures and adjusting. Let’s see if Tee and Helton can do the same on offense. We need to score and go into the half with the lead.
We’re looking better right now. We just have make stops.
Both teams should be running the ball more
Yep…
Toa Lobendahn isn’t a LT and it’s showing. Run and pass blocking by him hasn’t been good. But we throw the ball three times in a row after they stop us for now gain. We can’t abandon the run that quick especially inside the 30. Tee Martin needs to call a better game.
Hey you. So what did you think about Josh Rosen running the ball. He got 2 big 3rd down conversions keeping the ball on the zone read option. I told you these types of plays are necessary in order for UCLA to keep the chains moving.
Remember last year how you used to claim Rosen doesn’t need to run the ball and that UCLA was switching to a more power offense so they can run the ball this way. LOL!! 100% fail.
Rosen is still not all the way there though. UCLA would have been much better off if Rosen was a redshirt sophomore and was a built 6’4 225 or 230 instead of his still lanky 6’4 218 frame.
Rosen doesn’t even seem conditioned properly. Those runs seems to take a lot out of him and of course he failed to convert on that final drive against Memphis.
I spoke too soon.
Interception.
That was another chance Darnold decided to take and they’ve been hurtin us lately.
Alright!!!!
Play defense and score again!!!!
Ladies and gentlemen: The USC Defense.
That didn’t last long.
Toa sucks!!!! Get him out of there.
UGH! USC radio announcers talking WNBA during this game! STOP!
It’s bad enough the women’s sports halftimes update with that crappy lead-in noise they call music.
What the hell???? Run the football. Cal has this game plan pegged. Why does SC continue to force the play action pass? Ugh. Another turnover.
Thank You!!!!
RUN THE BALL!!!
USC has this uncanny ability to run the exact offense that they shouldn’t every game. It’s actually impressive how they love to shoot themselves in the foot multiple times every game. No other team can pull that off and win.
Wow. You SO nailed it.
#ReverseCoaching

Ha! Sam needs to stop looking to the sidelines for plays.
#PlayOnIntuition,Sam!
Thats too easy
It worked for George Costanza.
we tried between the tackles and it was not good
I hope Darnold stays at USC next year. It’ll be great for us —and there is no way he’s ready for the NFL yet.
It looks like he’s staying. His draft stock will drop for sure.
Not after he pulls out another win.
He got the win —but he doesn’t look ready for Sundays yet. He’ll be great after another season allows him time to polish up some stuff (he needs to develop SOME kind of long ball to play with the big boys).

Our secondary is horrible. They are about to give up another six. Can somebody teach them man coverage???
They never no where the ball is when its in the air. They can not run with a receiver and match the speed and know where the ball is. They always give to big of a cushion.
Cal is holding on every play. It’s their game plan. It’s impossible to miss. But refs don’t “see” it.
It’s PAC-12. They won’t call it. Especially for SC.
Larry Scott’s background is in team tennis. He wants scoring, not rules….
Larry Scott believes that making the PAC12 strong means hurting USC.
He wants parity which means no playoff team. The Pac 10 had parity in the mid to late 90s.
Larry Scott has issued the mandate.
You knew that would happen in Strawberry Canyon.
Here’s good news:
Toledo 16

Halftime
Holy Toledo!
Watching Arizona and Utah play uninspired football for 60 minutes was really hard. This feels the same way.
I was encouraged that SC would kill boith of those sad sacks. But now we are playing just like them today.
USC is not a playoff team and Darnold is not a Heisman winner —but we are a darn good team with a darn good quarterback! No way we should be in a tie with a bottom feeder like Cal at half time. Did the boys party last night? They look asleep.
Give the Cal coaches some credit. They inherited a mess and are playing better than their talent level. Less talent than UCLA and playing far better.
I thought they would be a bottom feeder in rebuilding mold this year.
So did everyone. Coaching matters.
We sure saw that with Harbaugh at Stanford.
You guys will win. Cal has blown too many scoring opportunities to win.
You are right, Cal reverted to the Cal that always blows it.
Cal’s coaches aren’t the reason we’re playing the way we’re playing….
Cal is playing beyond their ability. Why is that?
The Cal coaches are first rate —but they aren’t the reason why we played the first 3 quarters the way we played them….
Yes, but the game turned when Cal missed a FG and then decided not to punt and pin you back. Cal’s coaching had them in the game and playing hard.
Yes, they could be. They have their team playing the biggest game of the year.
No swag nor mojo.. Still plenty of game ..
At least we have had some nice distribution in the passing game.
Sam doesn’t have a choice. #80 is covered. Cal is doing a great job of taking him out of the game plan.
You’re right —and that points to a huge coaching screw up. Can we possibly be SO one dimensional that we can’t play if #80 is covered? Crap! Shades of Sark!
Seems to be getting it around to others. Running backs and tight ends getting passes which is something a lot of people were bitching about.
Only certain players are playing to their potential. But we should be able to beat most teams with Sam, Burnett, Mitchell, Petite, Carr and Rojo.

Just teach them to keep their feet…
That is tremendous improvement!
Everyone want to fire the coaches already?
The mojo and swag after week four of last year is missing..
Is that all coaching?
Players and coaches need to be on the same page.. Someone anyone needs to call them out in the media.. Hey you guys we are not worthy of a 10 ten spot.. Lets play hard and win .. We are not doing our jobs..
But everyone was bagging on the Blogger for saying that very thing this week.
He’s a blogger..Anyone within the team.. Captains leaders.. Swann not the blogger.
Do you think Swann pulled a Mike Garrett and blasted the team for no effort at halftime?
Someone at USC alum…Needs to put a foot in their rears..
If you remember, this time last year they had a meeting. Perhaps another one is in order.
Just the secondary coach.
And the HC and OC.
Haaaaa!
My buddy just said that about an hour ago. Our secondary has the most talent in the Pac12 but we don’t look like it
More IFFY Kick coverage
Zion Echols wanted to play for USC
Who goofed?
If only USC had 200 scholarships a year, they could accept all the players that wanted to go there.
See they just gave up another 1st down. This secondary coverage is horrible.
No coverage. Cal just needs to pass the ball for the rest of the game.
Is is just me or does it seem like every team knows to go for it on 4th down against USC because they know USC will put in their dime package to stop the run?
No DLINE
More of a FAIL by Cal than success by us on that first drive of the 3Q
Very True!
Respect to Matt Lopes…
But it’s a joke that all our 4star and 5star guys are behind him.
OMG! The Leftside O-Line is pathetic. How does Tee and Helton not see this???
They didn’t get any kind of push. SOFT !
This is embarrassing…
Still can’t pick up a 4th down. So frustrating!
Should have had it on 3rd…
You’re right about that one.
4th down and two it is a good idea to go with what has worked, and running straight ahead has not worked at all.
No respect for our D
None.
Western Michigan, Texas and Cal all didn’t even blink when think about it. Nope.
Game over! SC wins again!
I hope so. Our O-line isn’t playing well and we can’t run the ball to kill the clock
Good job D! Finally stopped them on 4th down.
Now they will respect our D.
doubt it
How about lining up under center, every now and then on those 4th and 1 plays, because Sam Darnold is 6″3 225 … OMG
Remember how Leinart could aways sneak the ball for 2 years?
Fred I agree. But our O-Line cannot get any push off the ball.
Good play call to end the 3Q
Predictability is Tee’s weakness.
Forget the Heisman
Still too early, we crush ND and Darnold has it.
16-13 isn’t enough. Hope Clay knows it and plays aggressively.
My guess is they just run the ball up the middle on 1st and 2nd. Then try to pass on 3rd in long but the oline won’t block.
Finally a decent Kick cover
WOW UCHENNA
Great profile pic by the way.
Thanks. Took me hours (to find a toilet sitter in Baby blue)
Lol!!
MICH just took the lead over Purdon’t.
Play of the game.
Now that’s the Cal we all know and love, choking the game away.
Got lucky and insanity paid off for Helton
ABC su*ks —and these announcers fit right in…..
Yup. Pretty much all the TV announcers su*k. They all are anti-USC. I miss Keith Jackson…
Keith appreciated SC even though he was a Coug.
Even Dan Fouts gave USC an unbiased call.
Keith could do a better job at age 80 than these two pro Cal clowns…..
I noticed that the network announcers now want a close game for ratings so they root for whoever the underdog is, creating a narrative about the poorer team, hoping they will overcome adversity and pull off the upset.
Now that I think about it, that’s exactly the drill……good call!
4th offside call on the kickoff team this season.
Cal’s game plan demanded perfection to stay with us and they blew it in quick sucession.
Again, USC loves to shoot their own feet.
Against mediocre Pac 12 competition SC can get away with sloppy play like that.
GAME OVER!!!!
Cheapskate hill will head for the BART!
Lol
Knock on wood!
Hmph!
(IF) We cover and there will still be people here who say we have no right to say: “USC played like crap!”
Nice jump pass
That’s the same play Kiffen used with Robert Woods.
Finally. Game Over. At least Defense can step up when needed.
Game over with us pushing 2 more scores ..
Uncharacteristically early.
Kick return for TD and Onside kick lost, coming???
Great job D! Glad to see #14 intercept that ball and not bat it down like one of the great Ting brothers.
The Ting-Ting-Bing secondary!
If USC is manages not to throw up on themselves, then I think we got this in the bag. So much coaching up needed with both sides of the ball. Secondary is scary how bad the coverage is.
Helton Burning Sam’s TOs again.
Purdon’t is playing like Cal now. Bad teams can’t sustain a full four quarters against a superior team.
He don’t need no stinking timeouts!
That is something I could never understand. Why burn TOs?
Hi-O!
Like us, the other upsets are turning around…Michiscum just went up 14-10, Clemson opening it up and the wheels are off in Miami
This is like the 2015 game: we have the talent and get lots of turnovers, yet we play so badly otherwise, the game is closer than it should be.
Even Budrovich is mediocre, today
Still time to get 6 more penalties for our 10…
Please get Carr out of the game.
Any RUINS vs Cardinal predictions? Hopefully Mora can keep the losing streak going.
Stanford 45-35
Love runs for over 250
30-10 FURD
Bruins roll 46 – 25.
There’s another stupid penalty!
How many is that now? 5?
PUSH OFF!!!
Yes. That was a push off.
Just another way to hurt USC by killing the betters. and hurting our stats.
I don’t see how this group of defensive backs stops Luke Falk.
Others will rave about 4 INTs, but I agree with you.
Yeah, it’s one thing to do that against Cal —-another against Washington State. Hope we have Porter Gustin back to rush the crap out of Falk next Friday —or we’re in big, big trouble.
Falk slinging the ball and Coach Leach making the calls could be a lethal combination for our D. Hope not, but a little worried.
New QB??
Another blown chance to get the back up SOMETHING…
For those of us that had Cal +16.5, that backdoor cover on an uncalled offensive pass interference was money. Anyone got the name of that ref? I want to break him off a slice of my winnings and send him a hundo.
Sam has yet to have a Heisman day.
He’s gonna need to ring up 400 yards a game, throw no more INTs for the rest of the season AND make the playoffs to win it.
I hope there’s no more Heisman talk for Sam. It would be better for him and better for the team. He looked way better down the stretch last year than he’s looked this year. He needs to relax and trust his instincts —he’s playing tight (you can see it on his face in close ups).
Why not focus on the team, the Heisman will take care of itself. Sam has all this crap being laid on him about Heisman, NFL draft, and really all he should have to worry about is next weeks game. The rest will fall in line as it needs to.
This USC team has talent, it knows how to win, but has not reached that championship caliber, yet.
It’s all part of the game and team we love.
Exactly right on all counts, steveg.
Cougs blowing out Nevada.
Well, they don’t make every game a future ulcer, like we do…
Yeah, it’s like a fricking bye for them. What a joke.
That should minimize injuries to their starters. That as quite a struggle for us until the 4th quarter. Did we suffer any major injuries?
Fatu and Raheem got dinged a bit, but I don’t think they are out for next week.
The injury to Fatu was so cheap —-hope that player gets some notice from the PAC 12 for that play.
Hope the Ref get some notice from the PAC12, but Larry Scott will probably give then a bottle of Pappy.
I sure hope Burnett is okay. He was limping a tiny bit after he tried to hurdle that safety to get into the end zone.
As this should have been for us…What a joke!
True.
All things come to those who wait……
USC 30 Cal 20! 13th straight win!
WA St. this Friday 29th Sept. @ Pullman
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!
14 straight
You’re wrong amigo it’s 13….9 straight last year after the loss to UT and 4 so far, this year
1-3 start… 9 wins and the Rose Bowl is 10.. Plus 4-0
SC won 10 games total last year. 1-3 start, then 9 in a row including the Rose Bowl plus 4-0 to start this year ends up being 13 straight.
You’re wrong – the streak began after the UT loss:
AZ St., CO, AZ, Cal, OR, WA, bel-air tech, ‘the princess’ and PA St. (Rose Bowl)
2017 – Western MI, stanford, TX and Cal
total 13
Did we win 10 ?
Read what I posted and what so cal posted amigo – we won 9 in a row (which includes the PA St. victory in the Rose Bowl) after the UT loss and 4 this year
I did. I was confused…lol..I counted someone twice.
That Nissan Heisman ad just ran on ABC is funny – watch the ‘flying’ ‘SC’ cake a risin’!
The final 3 USC possessions could have been a time for Fink to get in a game. Especially with the pathetic play calling being sent in. Tee needs a lot of help on his play selection.
Not impressed with the O line very soft. It looks like they run to spots when playing and the D reacts to the play and blows by them. The play of the DBs was weak also, yes we got some interception, but those where gimmies from a bad throws. We spend to much time trying to rip the ball out and do not make the tackle. We need to teach some more (how) to pass rush. Very happy to get the Win but we are not ready for prime time yet. FIGHT ON
Biggie Marshall with his patented falling over for no reason. Great job missing that pick 6.

FIGHT ON
