      • Is it possible that Helton doesn’t know how to coach as a front runner? He’s been on his heals in every game except Stanford. The team isn’t playing with a trace of emotion.

  1. And it looks like Tee Martin has failed again. Cal’s defense knows every play. Unprepared!!!! What a joke.

        • He’s been acting like he KNOWS he’s over his head for the last 3 weeks (and don’t think he isn’t conveying that to the team). What’s up? I thought he got it together last year.

          • The team seems demoralized. But why? What’s up? Cal is missing their best runner and their best receiver. They shouldn’t be even in this game.
If Helton and company can’t get the team jacked up for the second half (and if Clancy can’t remind his corners it’s best not to let receivers get behind them on every play), we’re flirting with a ridiculous result.

          • I thought they would be psyched after the great Texas finish. They acted like they lost last week the way they sleep walked through the first half.

  2. Once again….When is Chris Hawkins gonna start playing like he deserves to be out there.
And Tell just got punked on that 4th down. The DLine can’t get going and the guys behind them are struggling to even make a tackle.

    • I saw that. Clancy is starting to use outside pressures and adjusting. Let’s see if Tee and Helton can do the same on offense. We need to score and go into the half with the lead.

          • Yep…
Toa Lobendahn isn’t a LT and it’s showing. Run and pass blocking by him hasn’t been good. But we throw the ball three times in a row after they stop us for now gain. We can’t abandon the run that quick especially inside the 30. Tee Martin needs to call a better game.

          • Hey you. So what did you think about Josh Rosen running the ball. He got 2 big 3rd down conversions keeping the ball on the zone read option. I told you these types of plays are necessary in order for UCLA to keep the chains moving.

Remember last year how you used to claim Rosen doesn’t need to run the ball and that UCLA was switching to a more power offense so they can run the ball this way. LOL!! 100% fail.

Rosen is still not all the way there though. UCLA would have been much better off if Rosen was a redshirt sophomore and was a built 6’4 225 or 230 instead of his still lanky 6’4 218 frame.

Rosen doesn’t even seem conditioned properly. Those runs seems to take a lot out of him and of course he failed to convert on that final drive against Memphis.

      • I spoke too soon.
        Interception.
That was another chance Darnold decided to take and they’ve been hurtin us lately.

  3. UGH! USC radio announcers talking WNBA during this game! STOP!

It’s bad enough the women’s sports halftimes update with that crappy lead-in noise they call music.

  4. What the hell???? Run the football. Cal has this game plan pegged. Why does SC continue to force the play action pass? Ugh. Another turnover.

  5. I hope Darnold stays at USC next year. It’ll be great for us —and there is no way he’s ready for the NFL yet.

        • He got the win —but he doesn’t look ready for Sundays yet. He’ll be great after another season allows him time to polish up some stuff (he needs to develop SOME kind of long ball to play with the big boys).

  8. Our secondary is horrible. They are about to give up another six. Can somebody teach them man coverage???

    • They never no where the ball is when its in the air. They can not run with a receiver and match the speed and know where the ball is. They always give to big of a cushion.

  9. Cal is holding on every play. It’s their game plan. It’s impossible to miss. But refs don’t “see” it.

  10. Watching Arizona and Utah play uninspired football for 60 minutes was really hard. This feels the same way.

    • Sam doesn’t have a choice. #80 is covered. Cal is doing a great job of taking him out of the game plan.

      • You’re right —and that points to a huge coaching screw up. Can we possibly be SO one dimensional that we can’t play if #80 is covered? Crap! Shades of Sark!

        • Seems to be getting it around to others. Running backs and tight ends getting passes which is something a lot of people were bitching about.

          • Only certain players are playing to their potential. But we should be able to beat most teams with Sam, Burnett, Mitchell, Petite, Carr and Rojo.
            #IsThatEnoughForThePlayoffs,Though?

  11. Is is just me or does it seem like every team knows to go for it on 4th down against USC because they know USC will put in their dime package to stop the run?

  12. 4th down and two it is a good idea to go with what has worked, and running straight ahead has not worked at all.

  13. How about lining up under center, every now and then on those 4th and 1 plays, because Sam Darnold is 6″3 225 … OMG

    • My guess is they just run the ball up the middle on 1st and 2nd. Then try to pass on 3rd in long but the oline won’t block.

  14. Hmph!
(IF) We cover and there will still be people here who say we have no right to say: “USC played like crap!”

  15. Great job D! Glad to see #14 intercept that ball and not bat it down like one of the great Ting brothers.

  16. If USC is manages not to throw up on themselves, then I think we got this in the bag. So much coaching up needed with both sides of the ball. Secondary is scary how bad the coverage is.

  17. Like us, the other upsets are turning around…Michiscum just went up 14-10, Clemson opening it up and the wheels are off in Miami

  18. This is like the 2015 game: we have the talent and get lots of turnovers, yet we play so badly otherwise, the game is closer than it should be.

      • Yeah, it’s one thing to do that against Cal —-another against Washington State. Hope we have Porter Gustin back to rush the crap out of Falk next Friday —or we’re in big, big trouble.

    • Falk slinging the ball and Coach Leach making the calls could be a lethal combination for our D. Hope not, but a little worried.

  19. For those of us that had Cal +16.5, that backdoor cover on an uncalled offensive pass interference was money. Anyone got the name of that ref? I want to break him off a slice of my winnings and send him a hundo.

  20. Sam has yet to have a Heisman day.
He’s gonna need to ring up 400 yards a game, throw no more INTs for the rest of the season AND make the playoffs to win it.

    • I hope there’s no more Heisman talk for Sam. It would be better for him and better for the team. He looked way better down the stretch last year than he’s looked this year. He needs to relax and trust his instincts —he’s playing tight (you can see it on his face in close ups).

    • Why not focus on the team, the Heisman will take care of itself. Sam has all this crap being laid on him about Heisman, NFL draft, and really all he should have to worry about is next weeks game. The rest will fall in line as it needs to.

This USC team has talent, it knows how to win, but has not reached that championship caliber, yet.

  21. All things come to those who wait……

    USC 30 Cal 20! 13th straight win!

WA St. this Friday 29th Sept. @ Pullman

Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!

  22. That Nissan Heisman ad just ran on ABC is funny – watch the ‘flying’ ‘SC’ cake a risin’!

  23. The final 3 USC possessions could have been a time for Fink to get in a game. Especially with the pathetic play calling being sent in. Tee needs a lot of help on his play selection.

  24. Not impressed with the O line very soft. It looks like they run to spots when playing and the D reacts to the play and blows by them. The play of the DBs was weak also, yes we got some interception, but those where gimmies from a bad throws. We spend to much time trying to rip the ball out and do not make the tackle. We need to teach some more (how) to pass rush. Very happy to get the Win but we are not ready for prime time yet. FIGHT ON
