Cary Angeline Update

So why did tight end Cary Angeline quit? I’ve heard tonight that one reason was a family issue back in Pennsylvania. However, others feel his lack of reps and zero playing time were factors. Apparently, Angeline quit last week.

  1. I think that he was probably homesick. He had great potential as a tight end but, personally, he didn’t seem to be a very outgoing kid. Whenever they would show the sidelines on TV during the SC games, all of the other players would be kidding around and socializing but whenever you saw Angeline, he was always sitting there by himself.

      • Some kids can handle it, some can’t. He wasn’t playing, he’s homesick, it’s best for him to leave and be happy somewhere else.

      • It’s like I told the other guy on this forum, I could be wrong. But he just didn’t seem very sociable.

      • Trying to understand it all but to brush it off would be a mistake on the coaches part…hope they take many moments to reflect

        • When you recruit high profile out of state players it behooves you to give them some reps.,.you can’t starve a player and then say you did nothing wrong…

      • I could very well be wrong about that. I don’t know that for a fact. I’m just going by what I saw on TV. If you can prove me wrong then I stand corrected.

    • probably “last”…. or maybe he meant that “he quit weakly” – as if not in an upstanding manner? Who the hell knows with Scottie?

  2. It’s sad to see the vindictive “good riddance” posts regarding Angeline.

None of you knows the whole story, or you would have posted it. There are plenty of valid reasons for Angeline to quit that don’t make him a loser of a human being. You guys bag on Wolf for negativity and a “glass half-full” mentality? Many of the posts about Angeline are the same basket.

I HATE seeing Ty Isaac running for the UM, but family issues arose (whatever they were). I root against him because of Michigan, not because he left USC.

    • I don’t see a post here running this kid down, maybe you should post on the blog post where this happened.

      • It was the original blog post about Angeline leaving where 2 people brushed him off as a quitter and a negative to the team.

I guess you didn’t see the post where I defended you against people attacking you with BS, either.

    • Can players who quit pick any school they want? He better not end up at State Pen. USC should get to approve any school they go to. If they quit they can’t just have a new signing day.

  3. Really hoped this guy would shine for SC. It could be a chicken-or-egg scenario. Was he not playing a lot because he was homesick and in-over-his-head, or did lack of playing time contribute to the former? Either, as a 19 year old kid, hope he finds the right fit and thrives. Certainly looked good on paper. But with Imatorbhebhe out an virtually no looks, it had to be the demoralizing for a highly touted recruit. Best to him.

    • USC is loaded with TEs. Not all of them get playing time. Petite, Falo, Bebe are all great TEs. Too bad for Angeline, hope he doesn’t go to Pitt.

      • I have a feeling, there will be more TEs to quit soon. USC is not the team that produces NFL style TEs. They recruit NFL style TEs, but never use them. So, why not lose them. This was a huge eye opener for future recruits at the TE position for USC. This was not good by any means.

  4. 6’7″ a huge target in the red zone, could help stecth the field. This is a huge, huge loss. Man this hurt. USC never commit to these tall athletic guys. This sucks!!

        • Do you follow USC FOOTBALL? No disrespect but you saying he couldn’t beat out the man in front of him (Tyler Petite) clearly tells me you weren’t hearing the opinions of all the SC reporters/SC beatwriters who are at practice. It wasn’t a secret that Angeline was out playing the SC defense and at times Imatorbhebhe.

          • Lane Kiffin also told Matt Barkley to always look for Marquee Lee while he had another All-American named Robert Woods playing on the very same field with a dangerous pass catching TE named Xavier Grimble on the field as well. Oh, and he a had a little RB who surprised us all that he was a threat catching out of the backfield by the name of Curtis McNeal. I’m not saying Helton’s a bad coach because he’s far from it. I’m just saying he has a tendency to make some decisions based on his admiration for his players and not who’s clearly the best player. That was apparent last season with his decision to start Max Brown. Or was it his loyalty to him? The Alabama….yeah sure a lot of people would go with the older and hopefully seasoned QB, even I gave MB the edge based on that factor, but he played terrible. So the next game it was clearly in my face at the game against Utah St that Brown was not our QB. The score didn’t do justice to how bad he actually struggled in that game.

This Kiffin move cost us at least a chance to play for a National Championship in 2012.

This Helton move ultimately cost us a birth in the CFB Playoffs and a possible rematch with Bama.
