Colin Cowherd Strikes Again

Colin Cowherd supposedly picked Washington State to upset USC because of “heavy hearts” at the university from the basketball scandal.

Is he OK? Does he know anything about college sports? I’m at USC right now and you wouldn’t even know there is a scandal. Why do the football players care? They don’t.

Even when Pete Carroll’s teams were under heavy NCAA scrutiny, they didn’t let it bother them. Colin Dumbherd strikes again.

  1. Dumbherd? Really? So, blogger, like many of his colleagues in the media, believes that un-provoked, juvenile name-calling qualifies as “journalism” or “reporting”, or even legitimate “commentary.”

I suppose this is the new journalistic logic: 1)Wolf disagrees with Cowherd’s opinion; 2) Since Wolf disagrees, Cowherd must be wrong; 3) If Cowherd is wrong, Wolf is entitled, no duty-bound, to call him names.

    Sad and pathetic.

  2. Supposedly? No, he did pick WSU to beat USC.

Let me do your work for you Wolf. He said that USC has too many injuries in important positions. USC is playing a short week away and has played 4 straight tough games. He then predicted USC to go undefeated the rest of the season.

    • I heard that segment and Wolf left a lot out in his re-telling. Cowherd actually predicted they would lose by double digits.

      • Dan Weber, who has been covering the Trojans forever and has a great feel for their preparedness for a particular game, says he thinks USC will play their best game since Stanford. Practices have been noisy and energetic —-and the players seem super focused on the task at hand. I’ll take that concrete observation over Cowherd’s general impressions.

          • Check out Dan Weber’s Tuesday practice comments on YouTube, Clay —-he says “Sam is working through something. He’s not 100%.”
Not that it’s any of my darn business, but I wish I knew whether he was alluding to something physical or something mental. Is it possible Sam is not happy with game plans? Is he uncomfortable with the new emphasis on his staying in the pocket?

          • I hope he does, USC jojo ——I have been wondering what Dan was referring to ever since I heard him say it. He went on to say that Sam was throwing “perfect passes” in practice —so I got the impression that Sam’s problem isn’t injury related. It’s more of a mental thing.

          • Hope there is no dissension between Sam and the staff. Everyone needs to buy-in and trust the leaders. I have yet to see any signs of Sam playing injured

          • I hope Sam didn’t have his heart set on the Heisman —-that was never gonna happen. [But the funny thing is —I doubt there’s a college team in the nation that would trade a Sam Darnold to get one of the current front runners—including the teams that actually HAVE those front runners].

          • We are 4-0. It’s no time to talk about the Heisman. Any front runner that looses two games isn’t going to win, and like Carson Palmer, Darnold can use the Notre Dame game as a launching pad for voting. The majority of the voters on the East Coast don’t pay attention to the West Coast until USC plays the Domers. The more hype they have, the more eyeballs will be on the game and Darnold can showcase his best talent, playing on the biggest stage. The season takes care of itself, just win baby.

          • Not like the morons (and you) did for poor ‘Rosen’….gone are the days….woodie and the sweet con…..JD on Sam’s leash and the pathetic 80 yard practice field.

          • Remember Carson played Notre Dame in the 2nd to last game of the year. I was at the coliseum for that one. More of a pep rally than a football game.

          • You know, if you are a gambler you should bet a lot of money on Darnold to win the Heisman at 8-1 odds. That’s a great deal. I’m not gonna guarantee that he wins it, but he’s most likely to win it. September doesn’t matter.

          • I don’t think it’s in the cards for Sam this year. It seems like 3 times out of 4, the guy made the front runner for the Heisman in summer is really just the guy they want to tear down in fall.

            #SamForHeismanIn2018

          • It has to be so hard to be the center of attention all summer and, then, have to face the reality of not perfectly meeting everybody’s expectations when the season starts. You just want to tell him, “none of that hype ever mattered —-you’ve got what it takes to get USC to the playoffs —go do it —and the hell with everything else.”

          • I obviously don’t know what’s going on with him or if there is anything going on with him. If it’s football related pressure, then he should resolve himself right now to the two year plan. Take the “1st pick in the draft” stuff off the table and continue to work on your craft. Study the greats, steal game from them and become that audible calling leader that you’ll need to be on the next level. Chances are that the team that drafts you will be sh***y because they don’t have a QB. Are you ready to lead an NFL team? Relax, step back from it all and take the long view.

          • I have been hoping for the last two weeks that somebody close to Sam would tell him to just relax and not let things get too big (Actually, I’m sure he’s been told that —but I want somebody who really matters to him to tell him that). He’s fine. All he has to do is push all the Heisman hype outta his mind and go win ball games.

          • He’s gotta get better too though, Mike. Maybe he’s being hard on himself because he’s not living up to his own standards. We’ll see, but hopefully everything is ok.

          • Every once in a while somebody gets you to see things through their eyes. I finally “get” the point you’ve been making for the last month, Clay. You’ve said it different ways, but the message is always the same: Sam isn’t there yet. I’ve been lazily assuming that everything is fine. Just like the end of last year. But it’s not. And Sam knows it. I just hope he doesn’t feel overwhelmed by that knowledge. He doesn’t have to be perfect —he just needs to get better every game. And that starts with not forcing a throw when there’s nothing there.

          • I agree. He’s just pressing and he needs to rely on his teammates and let them take some pressure off of him. It’s a talented team and he just has to make it go. If I could plant a word in Sam’s mind it would be “Efficiency”. The offense runs through him and he just needs to relax and be the distributor. He’s forcing things because he’s not seeing the things that are there. Part of that is the fact that he’s not operating from the pocket. You can see the whole field from the pocket and you’re keeping the entire field in play. He’s not going to be able to skip away and throw off of one foot in the NFL. He needs another year and this O-line needs some work.

          • Gosh, I hope he follows the path you suggested, Clay —-he could be so great if he develops a better, more nuanced understanding of how to play quarterback. All these people telling him to cash in now are being short sighted. The sooner he decides there will be another year to show what he can do, the sooner he’s going to begin taking the pressure off himself. Next year—rather than this year— could actually be the year both Sam and USC have been waiting for.

          • It’s down to 3.5 points, Gabby (and since home field is worth 3.5 points, Vegas thinks we’re a touchdown better on a neutral field).

          • USC is a very public-betted team. The sharps are usually on the opposite side, I could see that number go up from a betting standpoint

          • It will be weird if it goes down any further, Gabby —we don’t have any significant injuries and everybody is reporting good practices.

          • No, I don’t —-and it’s not because I haven’t been looking. I’ve checked every site I know of and there isn’t any mention of him practicing—or being out. And not one writer this week has asked Helton how Gustin is doing. I don’t think most people realize this game is going to be won by a smothering defense —-and that starts with Porter Gustin. All anybody’s asking about is Deontay’s status.

          • This looks like the first real opportunity this year. I’ve rarely been able to bet on SC through the years. Even the preseason national championship bet that I won on USC was only 3-1. That’s all you get for basically having to be perfect for an entire year.

        • Cowterd is a hack, always has been and always will be. He went to Eastern Washington so he’s pro-Coug.

          • All of this negativity may force USC to play defense more like one of Mora’s teams—-meaning that an “accident” on the field leads to Washington State’s first string quarterback leaving the game….
            #NotAUCLAConspiracy…..
            #JustAnUnfortunateCoincidenceEveryGame

          • Noooo – bel-air tech has, in 2017, a full >$10 million to launch that clown Mora right?

Look the team leaves for Spokane-WA tomorrow and then the bus trip down to Moscow-ID to the hotel before they face the Cougars at Martin Stadium late Friday evening – 7:30 PM PDT kick-off.

The 23017 Trojans all all know this is the only time they will have a clean shot at the ‘NC’ and when we beat the WA St. Cougars ‘the princess’ will get all girlie awaiting the USC Trojans esp. having played the ‘Redhawks’ and those ‘Tar Heels’ prior to facing Troy..

Understand USC fans – we defeat the Irish, and we shall, on Saturday 21st October 2017, it forces the voters ion both the AP & coaches poll to focus on USC – something the Big 10 and SE$C voters are loathed to do – both of them equally both.

The strongest conference right now in college football is the Big 12 … the two weakest are the Big 10 and SEC. PA St. plays MI and @ OH St. back-to-back 21st and 28th October and that a means a triangle cannibal party. ‘If’ PA St. defeats both then they are truly a legitimate contender for the final four but their (PA St.) OOC is a joke (Akron, Pitt and GA St.). Only one from a Top 5 (Pitt) and Pitt hasn’t won anything noteworthy since Tony Dorsett played there.

We defeat WA St. and those lazy ‘hibernains’ and it’s on to face WA (or maybe OR or Stanford)….Mora si the best thing that USC has had since Neuheisel who was the best since Dorrall who was the best since….

Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!

            Fight on!

    • So does this mean Scott is predicting a huge victory for USC? Welcome to the band wagon Mr Wolf.

  3. Hey, Flow. Why don’t you tell us all what you REALLY think of Cowherd. Man, this obsession is getting out of hand fast.

  4. Scooter, are you mad at Cowherd because he beat you to your conclusion? Scooter, that is not a professional critique. Scooter, grow up and do research and stop whinning about how you feel but report what you see and hear.

  5. Headline: Scott attacks Cowherd for saying USC can’t get it together for Washington State….
    Headline: USC fans attack Scott….
    #???
    P.S.
Those actually watching USC practice say they look real good and real serious this week.
    #USC will win on Friday

        • More than you do white bread….the whitest bread on the west side….’We love you woodie…we always will… we bow to your skinny back end and eat your swill…when you ignore us we wail…oh peckerwood we have failed!”

      • You know why this isn’t a ‘trap game’, Paul? Because we know what’s waiting for us and we’re getting ready to meet the challenge. The people who know the most about Trojan football are all saying the same thing: USC is dead serious about beating Washington State, and it’s showing in their preparation.

    • Pete –I say it will be closer. I didn’t realize that Washington State is a top 15 NCAA offense AND defense team thus far. That said, if they play their best and we play our best, we win.
      #OurBestBetterThanTheirBest

        • Our defense get after Falk early and often, He’ll break. Our offensive play calling is a concern. Hopefully we find and attack their defensive weakness.✌The country will be watching to see if SC is a playoff contender or pretender. This is truly a statement game for SC on the road, how else would you want it. Fight On✌

          • A big ‘yes” to that, Rabb! It didn’t seem like it when I first saw the schedule —-but, due to a mix of things, this is turning out to be our “Show Me!” game. We can still have a good season if we lose, but this is a make or break game for our national credibility.

          • Can’t lose, SC has talent and depth now. Face it, the Coaching Staff get NO MORE EXCUSES for not having the team or backups ready to play. Injuries or short week, SC must dominate. To many close games. A lot of my Trojan friends are on edge waiting for SC to have a break out dominate performance from start to finish. Hopefully this is that game✌

      • Michael, Washington State has not play anybody YET!! We blow them out…………… like 3 years ago.

        • Shawnman —-I hope you’re right about the blow out. That would be so sweet! [The problem with their soft schedule is, yes, Washington State’s team hasn’t exactly been forged in steel —-but they are also fresh as daisies —they probably don’t even need to send their uniforms out for cleaning for Friday’s game].
          #Look,Mom:NoGrassStains!

  6. Well I’m going out on a limb here Scott, but what if he’s right. Even a broken clock is right twice a day unless it’s a digital clock and you just throw it away.
As much as I hate to admit it USC could lose the game Friday night for a million reasons starting with the refs and ending with a D- coaching job. You have gone on record as saying you think he is a Dumbheard? What if he’s right will you call yourself a Dumbwolf or will you let him do it for you?

  7. Rojo and Deontay will start. But does anybody know the status of Porter Gustin? We need him against Luke Falk.

  8. Wolfian stat (for all of you Flow-ers):

USC is .500 in mid-week games started by Sam Darnold.

  9. Is Andyain’twinning still bozo u employed? If so, does that mean Swanny believes Andyain’twinning didn’t know squat?

    • You need to thank God we all dirty the crappers or YOU would be unemployed

What is going on with your pathetic football team

  10. Hey.. Its more than just mens basketball.. Ooops… The NCAA is in big trouble.. The FBI probe will lead to several Pac12 football programs not named USC.. The info is as I shared weeks ago ..Ucla, Washington, Washington State and Oregon are under the FBI probe with the same recruiting violations that have hit USC ‘basketball and other programs..

    • (1) I hope that is ALL true and (2) I hope the FBI goes public on the Washington State part of the investigation 1 hour before game time on Friday.
      #WithPhotosOfLeachEating$100DollarBills
      #AndDancingAtAAMeetingWithOwns

      • Lets see how this all plays in the next few days.. Weeks ago when I shared Ucla was in trouble, it was more than that.. The FBI probe was already in play.. Not sure how a Ucla fan said Bland was arrested in LA when the FBI took him into custody in Florida.. #hemusthaveatwin

    • Aren’t you the same guy that said USC wasn’t involved yesterday?

Most adults understand that this investigation could lead absolutely anywhere, including several other schools including UCLA. But please stop with the “inside scoops” that are pure speculation.

All we have now is what we have now, which shows the difference in money paid by the big boys versus what USC allegedly paid.

        • He doesn’t exactly LIVE here, Gabby —after a USC victory he hides in a dark closet listening to his transistor radio— waiting for BAD news concerning USC. Sometimes weeks go by before something BAD happens and he can come out again. Then he’s with us until something GOOD happens for USC — which it does all the time (thereby, forcing him back into the dark closet).

      • Will shall see.. Lol.. Sadly Mr Ball may have shot himself in the foot too.. Good luck with that.

        • Nothing would surprise me with any of this stuff. Anyone could get nailed and I wouldn’t be surprised one bit. I’m just saying that you don’t have anything other than your wild guesses.

          • Not guessing ..I have worked in the sports industry for 30 years . I have strong ties to all the teams in LA and across the US…

      • According to today LA Fishwrap, Swann was shocked to learn of TB’s arrest and arraignment. LOL…..Earth to airhead.

The fishwrap also mentioned that a big reason bozo u/Andyain’twinning employed TB was because TB seemed to know most every top HS BB player in S. Ca. Easy to do when your business card was a benjy.

          • Can we amend that to “JustMoreUsless,Angry,BadFaithSpeculation”??
            #ItTakesMoreTimeToSayButIt’sWorthIt

          • A long, long, long (I could go on —but you get the picture) time ago, Owns —in between vitriolic attacks —- made some insightful comments. He didn’t set out to offend with every single post, but, occasionally, to persuade. Now it’s only scorched earth.
            #HeNeedsAVacation

    • only an imbecile of T-Fail’s short stature would come up with such inane declarations. believe me, Dummy, if UCLA was involved, the FBI would DEFINITELY have mentioned them…they are a WORLD BRAND not just a So ca cult following like sc.

  11. I’ll go out on a limb here. If the Trojans play well they win. If they play down they lose.

  12. Cowherd has creepy eyebrows and to elevate him the the level of shock jock is wrong and an undeserved compliment. He isn’t a jock of any kind, he is a ramora.

  13. If Colin was on the right side of every opinion he put out there, he would be a very rich man…. Educated guesses don’t make you a rich man, he(colin) would be the first one to tell you that

  14. Scott is on campus? The once a week visit? Did he just go from the train to the tirebiter statue and then head back out?
