USC Picture Of The Night

Oh look, it’s another uncovered receiver in the end zone on Utah’s two-point conversion. Good thing Troy Williams didn’t see him.

  1. UTAH’s Williams should have been thinking pass the whole way but that’s not his style. The play took so long to develop that by the time Carrington was open, Williams was already committed to his natural first go-to, his running ability. Ajene Harris, our haphazard punt returner, was the late hero with his super quick close down, which surprised even Williams.

    • The DB’s did exactly what they were supposed to do on that play and a great tackle by Harris. The safety did not rotate with the flow for some stupid reason. Our D line played a good game as did the linebackers.

  2. Chris Peterson just shat himself – he’s responsible for the Pac-12 likely NOT having a team in the playoff…

    • The Pac 11 Dwarfs are a joke. We should have gone independent. They just drag us down.

  3. With the pressure the Sc lineman were putting on him no wonder he couldn’t see the receiver. Whoever did the telestration should mark all the Sc lineman for better understanding.

  4. He didn’t see him because it was called as a run play. It was going to be a run, it was a run, and it didn’t work. Move on, Scooter.

    • It was clearly a throwback pass play designed to go to the TE running to the opposite side of the field that Williams rolled out to. Same play Texas ran to tie the game in the 1st ot.

      • Same play every body runs … stupid
What is that db turned qb doing under center ! just run the walk in power play that went the TD

  5. That’s why they didn’t win and lost the game. And of course, anytime you win a football game by a point, you have to be pretty fortunate one way or another. I’m greatly relieved we came away with a win in this game, but next week’s game against ND…It will determine where our team will be going for the rest of the season and possibly beyond. Can’t wait to find out, so it’ll be a long week!

    • Well, ND is clearly a better team than the team we lost to, WSU, so it’s going to be a tough game. Plus, it’ll be in South Bend, and Kelly is a good coach.

      • Jelly is now match for our coaches. Never won a big game. I’ll admit his job depends on it, but sometimes life’s a hairy witch, so f’ the Irish here we come

    • Other than Georgia, who have they played? Nobody impressive. Next week will be a nice week to come out and explode on the Irish. Haven’t done it since the PHARM game, but it would a great thing to see. It would set us on a glide path to the Pac-12 Title game.

          • Turnovers almost always decides it when the teams are close. That’s why USC was behind by 14 in the 1st half. That’s why UW lost to ASU.

We turn it over 3X vs ND, we will lose I predict. Hope Darnold has exorcized his fumble demons. A good running attack helps him out a lot there.

      • Great stuff, Lamont —-but, unfortunately, I don’t think there’s any “glide path” to anything this year. This year it’ll be a dog fight every Saturday —but we have the stuff to be top dog.

    • In seriousness – gimme a break. The reason Darnold is so coveted is because he has the *rare* ability to keep his eyes downfield amid a lot of chaos and while often being chased. Williams is literally being tackled in your circle there. Are you going to go back and look at all the time both teams missed opportunities like this throughout the game? Because it was probably the case on 30-40 different plays for each team.

  6. If only darnold had seen the Utah defender chasing him down and causing him to fumble the ball directly into another Utah defender’s hands who was able to walk in for a TD then Williams missing a wide open receiver on this 2 pt conversion wouldn’t have mattered.

  7. What about your dream team UDUB getting almost shutout by ASU. Or Clemson losing to the Orangemen or … pick your team. Just win baby!

  8. If we stop beating ourselves on offense and play the way we are capable of playing on offense, we wouldn’t have to worry about one play where there is a guy that is uncovered. The defense played well in the 2nd half until that last drive.

  9. Most of the top teams have one loss, so if USC can get passed Notre Dame, then they should control their own destiny, into the playoffs, because as usual, the PAC 12 appears to be weak.

    • That is if the Pac12 gets a team into the playoffs. After USC runs the table they still have to fight the bias.

      • They(east coast bias) will be their nastiest and meanest opponent this year. Well, next to sw.

    • Watching this Trojan team play, I fully expect them to struggle in every game from here on out. It’s what they do. They live on raw talent alone, as the play calling and preparation continue to deteriorate. This is not a “well oiled machine” that is fun to watch, and plays like a Top 10 team. Alas. As for ND, they have ONE good win over Mich State. That’s it. I fear SC’s penchant for self-destructing more than I fear ND.

    • Washington and Washington State hurt the Pac 12 with their pathetic performances. They were clearly not ready for prime time and the East Coast media will dock us for their ineptitude. Beating UW or WSU in a playoff now will mean nothing.

  10. running for his life ,a throw way back across his body ? almost out of bounds trying to get to end zone? that’s why pressure instead of prevent works, SC played more prevent last 4 mins and 2ndary was eaten alive by Utah……great win vs a real physical team…expect the same from Notre Dame

  11. Happens when a db is playing qb … SC wins because they have a much better qb than anyone they play ( exception Luke Faulk).

  12. I was watching the highlights and the announcers said Williams was looking for a throwback to the TE which was covered. So, that was his first option. And it sounds like you’re coaches learned something from previous games. Pressure then drove him into run like heck as a second option. Carrington was never really in play there.

        • More good teams are 7-1 than bad, no team is perfect. But if you had to give this team an identity, I think it’d be scrappy as heck. They just won’t give in, or give up. Seems like it started last year vs nd, then Rose Bowl, and continues still. Never say die.

          • Hey freddie my little freeloading friend… glad to see you embraced the moniker your last six girl friends gave you! A little quick to the finish line huh?

  13. Where is the pic of Petite standing wide open for a td when SD threw 15 yards incomplete when we needed 5 for a first down? Called football, and the reason why the receiver was open was because the backs rotated up to stop the run, safety did not rotate with the flow. So, had the backs not done their job, Utah would have run the ball into the end zone and USC would have lost by 1.

  14. Oh look, there’s a Trojan hitting his ankles and 3 others in his line of sight of the receiver.

  15. Washington doesn’t even have a high school level field goal kicker so they won’t be able to stop SC if they meet in the playoffs, WSU was exposed by Cal and Stanford isn’t able to match up with USC. We beat ND Saturday and we will make the national playoffs!

    • But we also need to beat ASU (away) and ARIZ who are also playing well enough to beat good teams. These are teams who suddenly pose a real threat IMO now.

      • ASU was handed the game by a flat Husky team that still would have won if they had held a tryout for a kicker and punter Wednesday on the intramural field. Arizona beat f uucla which means they beat the worst team in the Pac 12. Rosen is a official bust! Where are the f uuclan posters today?

        • Actually, marv, you’re better off not being able to see what the the f uuclan posters are doing today.
          #WayBetterOff

          • It is where they belong, Gabby….and, for some reason, it’s something they enjoy.

          • They are first responders. When a disaster happens the crew is there to quickly put things back in order. Its a job very few aspire to do, I respect that

      • The Arizona State game —-which actually MATTERS in terms of our winning the Pac 12 —-was never gonna be easy. Having to be on the road again after a draining trip to South Bend always looked like a tall order. Now, it looks a bit taller. But, if we stay healthy, I say we win them both.

        • ASU was a lot more physical than I thought. They’ll be very tough. And that ARIZ QB is unreal. What a surprise mover in the CFB world! Wow!

          • Agreed. I think we wrote those teams (and their coaches) off too soon. At least, we’re on notice now. They’ll be no surprises. Every game left on the schedule is a real mother (except one —-you know the one I mean, Jack). But —if we stay healthy —I like our chances

          • Ya, ucla is ours. We own ’em. Did you happen to catch ARIZ drill them? I saw a little of it and they are really putrid. It’s a sight to see them always bend over like the wimpy little gutties we have come to know and laugh at.

Why no Trolls here? I wish the ones who told me UTAH would beat USC would show. Hopefully, they’ll come around soon. Hah!

          • I don’t know if you noticed, Jack, but “Ted” came on a little early (in the 3rd quarter of our game) to tell me “USC Lost!” But things turned out a little differently than “Ted” expected —-and he’s been living in the crawl space under his mom’s house since last night.

          • I didn’t catch that. Ted is real pota*rd and always has been.

The Trolls are all just stupified now. They’ve been beaten into submission and forced to live in the shadows, where they breed. As usual, they stink and we’re good.

Life is good. We’ve had such great wins against STAN, TEXAS and now UTAH. We just pummeled STAN and broke the hearts of both TEXAS and UTAH right at the very end.

    • Let’s face it —–#13, #9 —-who cares? We need to beat the rest of the Pac 12. If we do that, the Notre Dame game would be icing on the cake.

      • Correction Michael- if we lose Saturday there will be no national championship playoff berth for SC after what turns out to be a bad loss to Washington State. Saturday is everything. Notre Dame week is here!

        • Love to see us beat Notre Dame. But, frankly, I’d rather see us win the Pac 12 than get into the playoffs and end our season getting beaten by Alabama again. I think we have a top 10, maybe even top 5 team —I don’t think we can be #1 this year. Maybe next year if Sam stays —which he should.

          • We’re a really good team —-that, on the right day, could beat anybody. But we make a lot of mistakes —and they seem to start with Sam. I’m only guessing but Sam seems to start every game very nervous. The way he’s licking his lips and drinking water on the sidelines makes it APPEAR like he’s anxious. A great talent and competitor seems to be doubting himself this year. Like I say, this is only guesswork —but you asked a question and that’s my answer.
If Sam could just get it through his head that he’s got everything it takes to win out and take Alabama in the process, we could do it. What the odds are of that happening, I don’t know.

    • He must fall asleep with those 10:30EST games on ESPN. We will crush WSU in a rematch and Washington is not near the team we schooled last year. Browning is another bust. He looked like he would rather be hanging out at a Starbucks last night. Sam gets going when SC gets in trouble, Browning tanks and pouts.

      • Marv, I like your thinking. We could potentially see Stanford or Washington State in a rematch for the Pac-12 title

        • STAN’s really good again. We whipped ’em bad, taught ’em a lesson and because those boys are smart, they learned and will have a lot to say about what happens both in the Pac and nationally.

WSU lost all their mojo. Worst loss by a team I’ve seen all year, except LSU to Troy.

          • I fear more what Stanford could become by the end of the season. They have a RB with a homerun threat every time he touches the ball. Plus, Shaw is arguably one of the best in college football

          • AUB in the second half was like USC in our first half last night. The Tigers literally blew a 20-point lead to Ed O. Good for Ed. He’s pulled some kind of miracle, winning two games in a row after his start this year.

I think that LSU AD forced Ed O to come to Jesus and they had that big talk with his coordinators which required them all to lay out their how to fix it plans. Great lesson in accountability.

LSU just totally stuck it to AUB in the 2nd half. Kind of like how USC stuck it to UTAH.

Great to see Darnold’s team-mates come to his rescue. He deserved a break and got it last night.

      • Browning has always been his best against weak teams (about the worst thing that can be said about a quarterback) and he always fades in the second half of the season. Hope we get to see him in the Pac 12 Championship (after a week’s rest and after he’s been beaten up by Washington State).

        • I see overrated Washington and WSU fading and a rematch with the Indians in our future. That means we win the Pac 12.

          • I’m leaning that way, too, marv. I mean how could Washington beat Stanford at Palo Alto on a short week (they play on Friday)?

          • The announcer was saying the Huskies best DL was not showing any effort against ASU and without him the defense is average. I suspect he is injured and the Indians will take advantage of it.

          • Not if last year’s 1st half team shows up. With USC, you never know.

Just glad we escaped with a win last night. That was way too close for comfort.

      • The A.P. poll is a joke. Putting Oklahoma State ahead of USC is goofy. They played one good team and got creamed.

  16. Perhaps he was open because the scouting report on Williams was that once he starts running he is more of a running threat then picking up receivers down field?

      • AP voter Bill Landis from Cleveland has USC tenth. He jumped them over WSU, stating USC has a better resume.
They may be there in the tenth spot.

  17. Actually I thought Clancy called the perfect defense on the 2 point conversion. It looks like the defense knew that Utah was going to roll out of the pocket.

    • It turned out to be a great moment in USC football. I was so shocked when Whittingham decided to go for it. Dude has guts. Thank God we shut them off thanks to Ajene Harris.

  18. Remember last year when USC lost a heart breaker to Utah on some BS plays and calls. Turnabout is fair play.
