  1. Honestly, still doesn’t matter. It’s like the basketball tourney. Win and advance. You have to be 12-0 or 11-1 to get the invite. So just win.

    • I find it good when the brubabies loose.I get satisfaction everytime we beat them. BUT ND I LOVE IT when we turn their green crimson. ND is the team each year I look to us to destroy. This is a National rivalry, best in football. If the team doesn’t get pumped to another stratosphere, then we are without spark.
Time to put Utah behind and think about the idiot JERRY TILLER. We should fly into south Bend without the need of wings. This team should take the mojo we had against Stanford, to another level.

  2. The polls always show the east coast bias, this one in particular. Miami??? OK St??? I can see where Wisconsin, and TCU are up for a big fall as they finally have some tough games coming up. Georgia hasn’t had a tough game all season, the easiest schedule in college football. They sqeaked by ND by 1. USC has their future in their own hands, just win baby.

  3. probaly wood be hire if jack b tolled every one all the importint poeple he clamed to wathc the gaims with, smdh! im sure they r so exsited to wathc the gaim with a trainsengender like jack b,

  4. Rankings, Utah game all secondary. One name to think about Jerry Tiller, the cheep A.s ND shot he and his team took last year. This is it the greatest national rivalry in football. Beating them is second to none. Brubabies are just a local distraction.

    • That photo of Lou Gehrig ‘SC’ and Babe Ruth ‘ND’ 1927 – remember this was a month after the NYY had defeated the Pirates four straight and is considered the finest squad in MLB history.

      The best recognize the best!

      • There were some long train rides in this series. Many decades. Hype for many years was deep rooted, organic. Curious how much history the young Trojans will receive this week. I trust there will be many veterans of this game at practice.

        • The success of the USC Trojan teams gave confidence when LA bid for the X Olympiad. It also moved Dan Reeves to move his CLE Rams to LA in 1946 which in turn brought the: dodgers, Lakers, etc. to re-locate to Los Angeles.

  5. Anthony Barr (remember him?) just broke Aaron Rodgers’ collar bone on a late hit. Mora would be proud. Watch the UCLA/Arizona game and count the number of cheap shots executed by the Bruins. It’ll be nice when Mora is out of college football.

  6. USC beats a quality opponent, but wolf drops the Trojans two spots, 13 to 15. I guess you would have to get inside of wolf’s head to figure that one out.

  7. So, in other polls, USC is now #1 in the Pac-12. That’s all we care about. Just win baby!!!

      • Not only are we going to win the conference, but we’re going to Indiana and Arizona and we’re going to Colorado and then the Rose Bowl and the National championship game, and then we’re going to Washington DC, to take back the white house– YEAAHHARGHHHH!!!

  8. Saturday will be a marquee game with the Irish. #11 and #13, both with one loss, season turning game for both. If SC wins big, could be the end of Brian Kelly.

    • Just think, they had delusions of grandeur 3 years ago when they signed Rosen. They are now closer to the cellar than the top.

      • Delusions of grandeur be damned, they cemented themselves to the bottom of the south. Takes a special talent to ruin that many 4 & 5* athletes and turn them into the dregs of college football!

  9. Worst case scenario – USC get’s blocked from the final four right?

Well consider where they would then be placed for a bowl and who would be their opponent? Not from the ACC as i see only one team worth a darn in early December ‘maybe’ from the Big 10 but they tend to cannibalize each other and that leaves the Big 12 and SEC.

Soooo….I’m thinking shades of 2003 and USC vs IA down in the Orange Bowl ‘cept this time it’s USC vs. GA who loses to AL in the SEC CCG.

The AP is angry at how the FBS has further reached its’ tentacle to control and decides to go ‘2003’ and crowns the winner of that game their ‘nc’ for 2017.

I know it’s a lot of ‘this and that’ but if USC were to be shut out the writers know who is worthy

  10. I wonder if the beat writers hatred of Helton as shown by the subject columns, has any effect on polls? But the season is not over

  11. My notes on USC making the CFP:

To make the CFP we must win out. Obviously. Right now, I’d bet that it will be AL, GA, the BIG10 champ and whomever is best of the rest (Clemson winning out beats USC winning out). WA and Wazzu losing hurt us. Pac12 and Big12 are outside looking in.

We don’t have much in our remaining schedule to build our already
iffy resume with, except next week at ND and the PAC12 CG, though AZ and AZ St. look much more threatening than we expected in August. ND must be our Statement game. Stumble through the rest of the games, as has been our way in 2017, but we must dominate our last regular-season ranked opponent, on the road, on national TV.

Who do we need help from? At least 7 in front of us must lose, since the SEC teams will need 2 losses (either GA or AL, which is a longshot) and we need a combined 3 losses between 2 teams in the Big 10.

Alabama can still lose 1 game and stay in the CFP. If they win out but lose the SEC CG to an undefeated GA or lose one and beat and undefeated GA — 2 SEC teams could be in the playoffs. Beating FL St and murdering the cupcakes was impressive. 2 moderate wins. Auburn and LSU are the only (slightly) risky games.

Penn State has 3 tough games plus the B10 CG. Same scenario
as AL: win out, lose the B10 CG to undefeated WI, both could go. Headliner Barkley helps their credibility as does whipping Indiana and Northwestern. Iowa was too close, but PSU smashed everyone else they were supposed to smash. Next two games are super TOUGH; Mich then at Buckeyes then they are at very tough-again Sparty.

Georgia looks like it has the easiest schedule (them or
Wisconsin) to close the regular season, assuming they will play AUB better than LSU did. They could easily win out, lose the SEC CG to Alabama and still go to the CFP. Losing to Auburn and beating AL in the SEC CG will get them in, too. Quality wins over ND and Miss State and killing everyone but ND really helps them in ways our resume hurts us.

TCU: OK St. and WV were impressive wins. Little struggle with SMU is the weak spot on their resume. Several tough games to finish: Io St., TX, OK, TxTech and the still-fighting Baylor Bears. Plus, they now have a CG.

Wisconsin struggled with NW and Purdon’t, face upstart Terps, Iowa and Michiscum. A weak schedule like WA; one loss and they will need help.

Ohio State is beating the hell out of everyone outside of the OK loss. Penn State at home after a bye this week is a lucky draw, especially with PSU having to get through Michiscum this weekend. Loser next week is out of playoffs.

Clemson drops only 5 spots after road loss to mediocre team because, unlike USC, they have been impressive most of their time on the field EVERY game. The next 3 games will tell if they will beat our hopefully 12-1 resume, but like us, they need help in losses by teams above them.

Miami (FL); There is no Karma. Otherwise these mammy-rammers
would be 0-fer the season and injured permanently. 2 freak wins have them leaping up the ladder. Otherwise they have NOTHING. I don’t think it’s a reach to hope they lose 3 of last 6 VTech, ND and VA.

Oklahoma: Losing at home to a 31-point dog with a LB at QB (not
to mention almost losing to winless Baylor) negates the big win at OH St. TX last week was pretty good. They still have 4 major hurdles: TxTech, OK-Mullet,TCU and WV.

Oklahoma State: Crushing most while 1-1 in close games
against their 2 best opponents. The TCU game wasn’t really that close, but TCUis hot, so it’s not a bad loss. Still must win out and TX, WV OK, IO ST are atough stretch.

    • You’re nuts if you think the FBS is going to put 2 teams from the same conference in – they did that back in 2012 AL vs. LSU and it was a ratings disaster.

      • How can you keep AL out of the playoffs if their only loss is to GA in the SEC CG by one score? Or vice versa?

          • No, I don’t believe that nobody wants that. If 2 of the 4 best teams are in the same conference, then they deserve to be there.

Right now, AL and GA ARE 2 of the best 4 teams. If they finish the regular season unbeaten, then more-so the fact.

          • That’s why you post here as I do and we don’t schedule future games – tv executives already know no one is going to watch GA vs AL Round 2. It isn’t going to happen – the better team wins their CCG and the loser is through

          • If AL beats GA, or vice versa, the losing team is out. No one other than the fans of the losing team wants to see a rematch. It’s boring to most of the fans. If we want fairness, they should have 8 teams make the playoffs. That way the big 5 can send at least one team and then allow 3 other teams to be selected.

        • I was watching the Finebaum show yesterday and they said no to this thought. the reason is they did not win out and lost in the last game so they would have to drop at least four spots.

      • “The loser did not win their league.”

You mean like how Ohio State was shut out of the CFP because they didn’t win the Big10, waaaay back in 2016?

Again: If AL or GA are undefeated when they meet in the SEC CG, a close loss does not eliminate either team in my book. Emotional distaste for 2 teams from the same conference being in the playoffs does not overrule FACT.

There have been several occurrences where two top teams face off and the close loser drops only 2 spots.

The 2nd-best or 3rd-best team should lose to the best team, that loss doesn’t make it the 8th best team. Not all losses are the same – the “a win is a win” or “a loss is a loss” concept is inane when considering an exact point in time.

  12. Be serious, the Trojans are no playoff team the way they have played this season. Notre Dame game will tell a lot about the season ending goals. This coaching staff is a negative with too many losers handling the different positions. The two co-ordinators are not doing the job along with Baxter and the horrible punt return team. The conference is weak all around to give any credence to the voters.

    • A lot of truth there then again Clemson sure looked clueless losing to a SYR 4-3 team. What I’m driving at is the ACC is about the same prowess as the Pac-12 – not much there regardless of Miami at 7 – 0.

I think the strongest conference is the Big 12 but OK, as the best team in 2017, loss to IA St. has them in big trouble. TCU will win next week against KS and probably but not definitely a week later @ IA St.

There are 6 unbeatens left – Big 10 / PA St and WI, ACC / Miami, SEC / AL & GA and Big 12 / TCU.

We saw three unbeatens go down since Thursday (WA, Clemson and WA St.) there is a lot of football left to play

  13. I think 11 is about right. It’s frustrating to watch them this season, but they have been winning..ugly, but winning.
