The chickens came home to roost. I’ve been saying the same things week after week after week. But tonight USC played a real team that would not forgive mediocre play . . . or coaching.
What a joke of a performance for a team picked to be in the CFP. But what do you expect when USC never improves.
You were right.
Most of us who don’t watch the games like 7 year olds knew this was coming. You knew it, Fred knew it, Gotroy 22 knew it, goatboykiffin knew it, the rest want to believe that Gomer and Co have a clue, we’ll tonight proved they don’t and next week maybe more of what you saw tonight
We wanted to believe after that wonderful crazy Rose Bowl comeback victory.Now we can’t deny the truth- no playoff for the national title this year.
Jack B didn’t know it. He predicted victory.
You love this, we all know it.
HELTON IS IN TARMAC TERRITORY!!
You don’t get TWO historic losses in 2 years. That wipes out a bunch of come from behind victories. USC deserves better coaching. Period. Did you see the Notre Dame coordinators smiling like studs on the sidelines from the beginning? That’s what bad a** coaches look like. Have you looked at their resumes? That’s what coaching talent looks like!
MB, there are some idiots in here who claim everything that goes wrong with the team is never Helton’s responsibility but other coaches’ and players’. Are they Helton’s family and agents? I’m highly suspicious they are.
I think the staff has some posters working their side of the fence. But tonight……what lame crap could they possibly come up with in Helton’s defense? He’s a nice guy and he’ll take his hat off to the other team and smile and say “golly, gee.” But that act ain’t enough anymore.
Exactly, MB. You’ve been thinking what I’ve been thinking. Right on, bro!
Where is a 100-click upvote button for that?
I wish Helton was cooking like you’re cooking now, bro!
LMAO…another killer post!!!
There’s also a lot of myopic fans who think we should win national championship every year. We have not even been close for a decade. This team does not have that type of talent.
I disagree. This team is loaded with talent. But they do not have fundamentals and focus.
I’m listening to 710AM and Helton’s message to the team. ” I believe in this group. I believe in this team. “. The problem is that nobody believe in CH and the coordinators.
Uh oh they are going to the phone lines…
And neither does it have coaching to be there.
Hey we have a Sunshine Pumper here to defend the hired help and lie that we don’t have talent..
I saw the entire disaster! Swanny will do something besides talk! WE DESERVE BETTER!!!
You think so? I hope you’re right. But I don’t see Helton being gone anytime soon. He may be too “nice” to be fired.
Swanny can unload him fast! Helton’s contract is cheap! Swanny has to think of recruiting! Players are not being coached up!
Realistically recruiting will be gone this year. Recruits will not sign on to a program with Helton there and they will not sign on to one where a coach is being fired and they would be walking into the unknown. Look at our record of Head Coaching hires.
Maybe! Maybe Not! It’s all about the brand and who is in command. Big money will force Swann to take action.
I will believe it when I see it. We have a President that could care less about Football.
Big football money is important to the President! He has to make them happy!
It is the only sport making money. They announced Basketball is losing money. But we go out and hire a bargain basement coach. He followed the bubble screen twins. Pete turned out great, but he was put forth choice. See the pattern?
This is true.
Or the truth!
Hiring and firing complete dirtbags, drunks and cheats has not ever really negatively affected your football recruiting. Don’t worry about it.
But hiring cheaters is.
The big money will make him sack Helton
You’re right, MG. SC deserves better.
Thanks, Arturo. I confess I sure didn’t see this coming. Dropped snaps, dropped passes, dropped punts. Missed tackles. Players taking themselves out of the game with weird injuries. I don’t think that all the Sam Darnold “come from behind” victories in the world can save Helton from his two historic, once in a half century losses on national television.
I didn’t think I could be so depressed. This game, you bring it and die on the field. This game hurts because SC seemed to play with no heart. Losing to a better team if they faster, bigger and execute is acceptable. Losing because you lack effort and heart is on the coaching staff.
I agree with every word, Arturo —-especially your conclusion.
Yeah, but you’re the funny one.
( I mean that in the most positive sense).
Go ahead and gloat SW.
One of the things you say week after week is Sam is great, in fact you said greatest in the history of program. I wish that were the case.
Come on rah rah’s, defend this joke of a staff
Cant run the ball. Cant stop the run.
And guess what? Tonight that stellar combination wasn’t enough to win. I guess we need to try it again next week.
Power football hasn’t been developed. Wrong Oline recruits.
They are missing to many lineman from injuries. What do you expect with backups?
I expect them to be coached up and ready to play. Period
I expect our 5 star backups to step up.
Whatever happened to Beiku, the guy bozo u flipped from UCLA? I remember Sammy gloated about it for quite sometime.
Every team has injuries . Seriously?
We expect them to play better than they have under this lame coaching staff. You think all the teams ranked ahead of USC have been injury free? Don’t be naive.
Unreal Uknow. you are right on the money. Coach Helton is an outstanding coach and fields an outstanding coaching staff. I recall last year. Coach Helton’s Trojan team improved each and every game, finishing the season the 5TH RANKED TEAM IN THE COUNTRY. Why is 2017 so different ? A fall off in player ability. The unprecedented injuries have reduced this team to nothing more than a 50-50 competitor. Offensive Line, weaker at the start, devastated by game 5. Defensive Line and LB’s, okay at the start, devastated by the loss of Gustin and Fatu. with Green and Cameron Smith playing hurt. Sam Darnold, Ronald Johns ii, Burnett, and Mitchell JR are as good this season, if not better, than they were last year. The loss of TE imatorbhebhe has proved to be substantial hurt. Can’t say the same for the returning OL. SO BE IT.
in a nutshell absolutely right!
Worst game since the ASU game. Done with Helton, he’s been living off of Darnold too long.
And as talented as Darnold is, giving away 14 points per game from errors is too much to overcome
Cringe inducing comments, but so damn true. The team was woefully unprepared and the coaching staff needs multiple changes…..possibly starting at the top.
PREDICTION: USC loses to ASU.
Duh
And Arizona and God forbid, ucla
SW, is that you?
That was the sloppiest, I’ll-prepared SC team I have ever witnessed. And I graduated in 1996. All three stages of the game were just plain bad. Time to look for a new coaching staff. Tons a talent and the kids looked completely lost on the field.
This was Tollner Hackett football
Sarkisian the drunk, too
How could I forgot the drunk
I am not sure we have tons of talent. It’s good but not elite. Players win football games.
Sam for Heisman……..in 2018.
Not with that O-Line.
Sam is average. He’s mark Sanchez.
No, he’s poorly coached with a poorly coached OL in front of him
Bingo!
Bingo twice.
I don’t think the Oline individually is talented enough. Collectively, they were bad tonight.
Yes! Toa is not a left tackle and Chuma has a bad “primadonna” attitude. The backups are not nearly strong or experienced enough to play at a high level. Lastly Callaway cannot coach up the bunch.
Agree with every one of your points.
I’m too disgusted to even comment on this game. Let me just say it couldn’t be any worse than it was. There’s nothing positive to draw from it. Zero. Zilch. Nada! Thanks a lot, CH, for an indelibly shameful evening!
Here’s the positive. Swann will need to hire a new coach with tons of experience and strong record. CH will lose a couple more this year and be out of a job.
Helton needs to voluntarily step down in order to save face!!!
Problem is, who steps in for the rest of the season?
Tee Martin? Every play would be a run up the middle. We do not have anybody to run this team.
More of a reason for CH to step down. Tee as intern HC would guarantee that we clean slate.
And Enfield needs to do the same.
Nope! Not happening! CAE is not on the hot seat! Get over it!
Clean slate, let Lynn Swann hire his people.
I agree — except for CAE! He’s not on the hot seat.
Not yours but he’s on the FBI hot seat.
Fake! Fake! Fake! Just go away! You want CAE gone so that your boys in baby blue might have a chance this year! Allturd will save his job! Expect a sweep this year! Maybe even 3X! GO SC!✌️
Who says? Do u work for the fbi?
If the price is right kelly will come a knocking…… not sure if Sam would be his first-choice at quarterback…… just saying
That would be career suicide
Not necessarily.
But still on piles of greenbacks. LOL!
You said the magic words, Fred….
#NowI’mReallyAllForIt
Helton a joke as a coach! One year doesnt make a great coach
Helton is pedestrian at best it’s reflected on the product out on the field
I think ASU is laying in the weeds as is that team across town waiting to play this year’s Trojan team. If the team continues to play sloppy ball, it could very easily be a 4/5-loss season.
Lynn Swann’s hiring practices frighten me, because of who he hired a USC’s women’s basketball coach, a Chimpanzee would have made a better hire
Have faith. This hypothetical hire will put Swan’s butt on the line.
~~~ Lately, I’ve been running on faith…what else can a poor boy do? ~~~ LOL!
I thought the REAL Chimp was somewhere in Westwood.
Totally true. Our female hoops team is in horrible hands and destined to finish 3-7 in conference every year.
3-7??? That sounds more like the little gutties’ football record in conference. LOL!
Hey Regal. Can you believe what we just saw? After awhile, it was a little humorous.
At least there was no tension involved. No drama. No prayers. No yelling. It was just negative play, after negative play, times 10. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a worse USC performance. I really don’t think so, not in 55 years of watching the team. Tonight was the night. Numero uno. Worst performance ever. Was it that way for you too?
It’ll be very interesting to see how this reverberates through the McKay Center and HH. Intriguing times. We’re about to find out whether the rumors about Swann being lukewarm about Helton are true or not. At least I think.
Yes, JB. I must say it was THE worst I have ever seen at least among the games I’ve attended or watched. In fact, it wasn’t even stressful to watch it after the game was practically over at the half. I know this is only a speculation, but I think there’s some internal conflict within the team which isn’t disclosed to the public. The body language of Darnold strongly suggests it. And talk about a guy who has regressed rather dramatically! How could he become almost like Max Browne of last year after the brilliant season he had that ended less than ten months ago? And we know the reason, don’t we? The root of all problems and issues is none other than Helton himself.
You are on to something, RT. “Something” happened with this team that we are not being told about —-and that Helton doesn’t know how to stop. They are NOT playing hard….and they are not playing together. When a player RETIRES before the Notre Dame game it tells you everything! Something is deeply wrong.
Much of the USC football this year is some of the worse I’ve seen. Last night could be the worse..period.
One of us won yesterday, the other got PWNED. Lol.
If he considers anybody other then Greg Schiano, then he’s a fool , because he has an impressive resume, and he’s a solid choice with head coaching experience
Fred, I mentioned that name three years ago and got run out of the room. Look what he did at Rutgers.
The problem is coaching RUT is nothing like coaching USC. Nothing.
I don’t know anything about Schiano one way or another. Maybe he’s the greatest. I’m just saying I wouldn’t care about how a guy coached at RUT when deciding who my choice for USC would be.
True. But he has had success at rebuilding a program and he’s under Urban Meyer at Ohio State. I think that would be a home run hire.
Where is he now?
Ohio state
68-67 at RUT in the woeful Big East Conf, where he was a lowly 28-48 in conference doesn’t do a lot for me. Seems very mediocre, especially after his lone good year in ’06, which was followed by 5 straight blah years. His last three he finished tied for 4th twice in conf and 8th once with a 1-6 conf record in ’10.
Already with your names?
Somebody’s gotta do it, because the USC athletic administration doesn’t have a clue
You are completely wrong. Trakh will do a better job than Cooper. He might not be the best hire, but lead the previous women into the tournament a couple of times.
Better than Cooper. That’s saying absolutely nothing.
Previously fired from USC after never finishing higher than tied for 4th place and 5th twice in 5 years and against lesser competition with NEW MEX ST gets to the NCAAs only 3 out of 6 years and loses in round 1 each year. Wow, he sounds like a real threat.
So glad to have this retread back. The ucla women’s coach is so much better than Trakh as both a recruiter and coach, it’s not even funny and the entire conference knows it. Very inspiring.
Fred, you are mostly right in my eyes. On this one though, I want to see what Trakh can do before I pass judgement. I’m gonna give him a chance.
oh okay, so we can finally get les miles?
Sandy we don’t want him. Les has a horrible offensive mind. We need grit. I would take the d-coordinator at LSU over miles any day.
No there isn’t.
Holy F**k! I’m out. F**k Chaz Beefcake.
Better Avoid the Tarmac Clay… Round 2 is coming #Pullhimoutoftheteambus
As I mentioned earlier in the 3rd quarter —-the only miracle finish we could expect today wouldn’t come on a football field —-it would come on a tarmac.
And then the depression set in….
What do you think, marv…..do we give Helton a second chance with all new assistants? It saved Kelly’s career.
No
You answered correctly, boys!
No
Hawkins just admitted that they weren’t ready to play.
Greeeeaaaaat.
Ok. One thing that does not take any talent is being prepared. That’s solely on the coaches.
Good grief! A USC player admitted that?
Speaks volumes. How can you not be ready for ND ?
The team wasn’t ready for our rivalry game?
He should know.
OLine gave up 5 sacks tonight and Jones had 32 yards on the ground.
Ouch.
There is always something positive to take from every game/week.
1) Utah got smashed at home vs. ASU. Tells me last week’s game took a lot out of both Utah and USC
2) Just saw Penn St. thump Michigan (42 – 13)a year after they were thumped in the big house (49- 10). SC can still turn it around, but maybe not with this staff.
3) Always thought the team was a year away. ND had a bye week and SC is beat up. This was always a possibility.
4) CHIP Kelly is available.
Arturo—none of that will get SC to the playoffs THIS YEAR!!!
Playoffs are over. We’ll be lucky to win the south.
Agree! Tell Arturo to quit the Polly Anna routine!
Don’t even know who/what that is. You ever play football at any level? Ever break an arm and try to keep playing? Or, are you a sideline …forget it.
Arturo, my friend— that thing we like to call “balanced thinking” is being officially suspended for the rest of the night. As my grandpappy, Angelo, used to tell me, “never get in the way of a stampede.”
#WhatWeHaveHereIsYourBasicStampede
Thanks for the heads up. And a side steppin’ I go.
Me too.
You’re right. Sometimes a team isn’t good enough at key positions to be a top 4 team. Doesn’t make it any easier to accept.
Chip Kelly ? OMFG. And all your statements are for losers
NO
That is ALL true, Arturo. [But I get the feeling that reason isn’t going to prevail tonight. Sorta like trying to talk reason to the revolutionaries manning the guillotine in A Tale of Two Cities…..]…..
teachers all ways tell me abuot tale of the 2 cities but what cities r they? r they fun to visit? and can i get theyre on the bus?
Londres y Paris, no?
You can get there by carriage, Ed —-read the first two pages (it’s not pretty)…..
I get it. Everyone is out for blood. Don’t/ can’t blame them.
I hope Helton just gets in his limo and drives to a safe house…….
That imagery actually made me laugh out loud. Makes me feel kind of bad for Helton.
Well, this disaster can’t be all bad if it unites us in pity, grave soul……
Good point.
Scott: On one hand, I’m looking forward to your “Sunday Night With Helton” post to see how he explains this one away. On the other, I’m hoping there will be no interview with him tomorrow night, meaning he got fired before then …
OUCH !!!!!
It would be okay with me if did Sunday Night With Helton AFTER he got fired. He should be allowed to say “golly” one more time.
That second half against Utah last week looked so promising…
Look what ASU did to Utah today, IN SLC
I know, ASU will probably beat USC. It is what it is.
AMBER ALERT !!!!
Jacquie is missing!
Anyone with any knowledge of Jacquie’s whereabouts, please call the highway patrol, 411 or the international cross-dressers helpline.
Jacquie was last seen at 3rd & Figueroa wearing a feathered boa, a pink clutch purse and predicting a SoCal victory over Notre Dame.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
#Dummy
he is to busy wathcing the game with to many importint poeple to admit he is a use less blow hard,
I find it hard to say such bad things about the Trojans when they have been plagued by injuries. The entire defensive starting line is out. The O line has suffered multiple injuries. SC has had to field backup players at crucial positions and play the 10th hardest schedule in the country.. Darnold however has to stop the fumbling and interceptions.
Excuses are for losers
Whatever. ND beat a bunch of backups.
OLine was never good this year. Yes young backups but the best of the best of the 2016 & 2017 classes. Coaching is the problem.
Yes, and don’t forget about the sanctions!
Yeah, the sanctions!
Sanctions dont matter. Missing 8 starters at least hurts
Look I once coached college football. You back up should always be pushing your starters. That’s not happening here it’s coaching 100 percent
BOTTOM LINE!!! COACHES NEED TO COACH UP PLAYERS!
As a 45 year fan I am disappointed but a coach can only do so much with a bunch of freshman with little experience.
Ok I have question for you. The last national title usc won had an average age range of starters of what. 19. Sophomore. With freshmen on the line both sides. Coaching makes the difference every Time 90 percent coaching 8 percent players and 2 percent of luck.
So true. Coaching up these kids are key. There definitely seems that there is a lack of fundamentals and clear drop off from 1st string and 2nd string. OLine and the Corners are clear examples.
I would never say Helton is a great coach but when I watch the games, our biggest problem has been mental errors by players. Fumbles, interceptions and dropped passes. Yes coaching can be to blame for part of it, but ultimately it falls on the player. The team finished strong last year and has pulled out wins despite sloppy play this year.
Experience on the field also counts and freshman with 1 to 3 games playin against players with 15 or more games are at a disadvantage. 5 sacks last game reflect that. But take out all the turnovers and USC would be undefeated.
Chip Kelly would be a great hire for usc going forward Helton is done. Players are throwing the coaching staff under the bus. Recruits are announcing on socal media they will come to usc if Helton is gone. Swann has only one thing to do. Fire Helton
Gruden or bust. We want Chucky!!!!
Now that would be a hire I could get behind.
Never happen, not in a million years.
cortez the killer seen the game b4 it happen cuz he new usc was no good, every one else dont beleive him and say he a ucla fan, but he was rite! smdh!
This surprised nobody, but the pretenders who tried to convince themselves, that Clay Helton was the man for the USC job . He was a figure head offensive coordinator under Steve Sarkisian, and a quarterback coach, who had zero input under Lane Kiffin. But Pat Haden thought he was smarter then everybody else, and named Helton head coach.
Thanks Pat
Yeah, thanks Pat for the crappy staduim redo of the suites also.
They should have blown it up instead of surrendering to the City Council.
Nikias chose Helton. True story. Haden did not pick him. Nikias got what he wanted – a gentleman who would not embarrass the program off the field. That’s all Nikias wanted. Haden was on the way out. I do not think Haden was a good football AD by any means, but he did not chose Helton. Nikias did.
Did you get this from your “sources”?
And before you reply with all your bruin bs, I don’t like ucla and never have!
So I turned it off after they fumbled a punt. What happened?
Oh we mounted an incredible comeback – just look at all the ‘hurrahs’ here!
I hate to say it because I know coaching is his livelihood and I think he is a good man. But, USC can’t go any further with Helton as head coach. The team is not improving week to week. Many of the issues this team faces have plagued the Helton era since he took over in 2015..penalties, turnovers and general apathy toward the importance of the games being played.Ultimately losing by 35 points to Notre Dame is not acceptable given the talent we have. It can’t go on, enough is enough.
If Helton were the “good man” you say he is he would announce that he’s retiring at the end of the season and free Swann up to get someone REAL.
#He’llAlwaysHave2016ToLookBackOn
#USCNeedsTo LookForward
He just might – it’s what Gary Andersen did for OR St. – he took it on himself because he had hired the assistants that stunk for the Beavers and he knew it.
It would be the honorable thing to do. And all Trojans would appreciate it. Let’s get moving on a first rate Young Turk Genius to take this program to the promised land. The Junior Varsity tried their best. But enough is enough.
He’s another Homer Smith- good assistant/ bad head coach.
Don’t look now, but we might see Mr Tee as an interim HC, and eventually THE HC.
He’s the anti-Homer Smith.
hahahaha
This, coming from bandwagon #homer numero uno himself, marvy.
#thatsrich
I never pretended Tee was a professor like Homer Smith.
Gomer is s career hanger oner … nothing more
Silver lining is that this was game 8 – a full month before the regular season ends – gives time for a solid search rather than have this happen late next month.
Helton is gone – this was that awful loss to AL all over again
You mean like that sold search for the….
– 2 previous HFBCs
– AD
-BB HC
– Med School Dean?
Don’t hold your breath.
Hey ‘slippin’ Jimmy’ how’s it shakin’?
The important thing is to keep the team fresh for ASU. I suggest practicing without pads.
Saban had his players practice in full pads this week (that was the hard part) and his players had a scrimmage (that was the easy part) this afternoon with the Vols.
I also forgot ice cream. The team deserves some ice cream after practice. Soft serve.
“Deserves” Ice cream? OK. But you do need to provide ice pops for those who’s prefer ice pops instead.
Zinger!
So Helton going with sam been hurt for a few games now. Lol. As a coach if he is hurt d ont play him. You have a very serviceable back up that can use the experience. So let just pay a guy to hurt his draft status then announce it to the media. He should have benched him after his play calling comment. Coaches that make poor choices have player that make poor choices. Look at everything that going on and you see my point
I hope not. It’s Helton all the way.
This is a legacy of bad decisions, that all have one common feature: Kiffin, Haden, Sarkisian, Helton either had no experience (Haden and Helton) or no record of success (Kiffin and Sarkisian) in the job that they were hired for. How many organizations hire top execs earning several million dollars per year without any distinguished track record in that position? And USC has been doing this now for a decade.
Anyone heard from Jack B since he predicted victory over ND?
He seems to have swallowed his keyboard.
Jacquie, if you’re there, tell me you’re OK, I would miss beating you like a drum on this blog if you freaked out and took a bat to your Mom’s computer.
Please tell us you’re OK.
❤️
No excuses tonight except we got our butts kicked. The team looked unprepared and that is unacceptable.
Another bad pattern for a coach with a history of training QBs and offense: Darnold, Kessler, and Barkley all regressed.
Helton is a good and decent man that respects his players, obeys the rules.
This makes him totally wrong for SoCal.
Wow.
Spot on.
Team is just way too soft.
Great recruits. Way under developed
if u keep sayin this, jack b will be all up set and call u a bad name!
I hear alot of talk about getting a new head coach, but who is out there that would be better? I really can’t think of any for sure hires that will get USC to be dominate again.
jack b cuz he is smarterest persin hear, smdh!
nah Brutus
He seems to be missing.
Is he in the bunker?
he cuold be in trans gender bath room with his importint freinds,
Someone call for an Amber Alert. Jackie is likely so drunk that he doesn’t know his own name.
Chip Kelly
Hear, hear. Or, is here here?
He has already had lunch with swann
You better not be joking
No joke
Sweeeeet
Happened at Mr CHows In Bh
Please no
If Helton give a call to Swann, does Swann come down to help. Food for thought #HadencametoSark #WhynotClay
It’s time for the Athletic Director to take decisive action ( as soon as St. Pat tells him what he should do)
Good news for SoCal fans is that they probably already have a Sunday tee time at LACC to discuss it.
Unless a great coach comes along (and they are rare),Helton will probably be with USC next season.
Chris Peterson would have been a great hire.
You got that absolutely right! He’s no Gomer, that’s for sure!
Peterson is not a big city guy. Northwest is low key. Took just the right area to get him out of Boise
agreed, in less there is a complete melt down and USC loses out on the rest of the season.
This was worse than sad. We where flat out of the gate no spark. We where out coached on both sides of the ball. We where out played on both side of the ball. We did not execute, we stunk. The defense looked like Monty had returned. The D-line was just awful could not get off a block or had very slow reaction no second effort.The linebackers guessed the wrong gap and took them selves out of the play. Open field tackling was just bad. The offense was a joke-play calling had no rhythm or plan B. The O line looked like a high school line that goes winless all year. just could not move players off the line. On a high note our penalties where better and thats it. Enough ranting we lost badly now fix the problems and get ready for Zona they are a real team riding high. Get behind the players and let them know we are still behind them FIGHT ON
Please Pete, tell us how you really feel. In hindsight, it looks like nothing was done about the snow ball that started rolling down the hill after the WMU game.I truly hoped that things would be adjusted and play would get better and more consistent, as the year went along. I thought the Utah game would be the mark, but they, once again, started off bad.
That’s why I had two prediction scenarios on the score. I didn’t know which team would show up. That’s a preparation issue that can only fall on the coaching.
The fear of watching this team start off bad next week, may cause this team to quit.
Fight On!
I feel your pain, Pete Smith. It stunk tonight.
Look usc gets top recuirts. Every year period. 80 percent should be developed and ready to play game one as freshman. All 100 percent by game 3. It’s not happening they are trying the old reshirt to get depth deal. That’s not gonna happen at usc. Kids come her to go to the NFL period. So kids come here ready to play. Coach up the kids and let them play. This program is way to big for him. It was way too big for sark and even Kiff. Think about it. Pete was and is the type of coach that needs to be coaching at usc. The head coach needs to be bigger than the program. Not a shadow on the wall. Kids done trust Helton. They don’t like some of the staff. It’s all over social media. The program is out of control. They will lose to ASU and Helton will get fired.
and hire who?
Chip kelly
Maybe, but definitely question marks with his NFL failure.
He isn’t coaching in the NFL if we hire him.
But at least he has nfl experience. Nick saban was not too good in NFL either
And some guy named Pete Carroll failed in the NFL.
Very true
yeah and carroll actually had a winning record in the nfl before USC. But kelly could be successful, but why when I say that it doesn’t sit right. I wonder if thats how Louisville fans probably felt when they hired petrino.
Kelly will not be the answer. He couldn’t beat big physical teams.
True but he has made friends with guys who can. Being a hc is about management and making the correct choices. Plus he can recruit. He is well respected and feared.
Yeah, but imagine him with USC talent and not Duck scraps.
In order to run an offense for 90 plays, you need smaller, undersized lineman.
Where is he coaching now?
Your NFL argument about him not having job is full of holes. Kelly maximized the talent he had at UO and if he could approach that with SC, it’d be over.
I am not a follower of the NFL. i love College Football. I did not know he was successful in the NFL. He ran a gimmick offense that did not care about controlling the line of scrimmage. Big physical teams were his kryptonite. They controlled the line of scrimmage against him.
I hate the NFL. Still, he, like Saban, was made for the college game. His control freak attitude didn’t translate to the pros where players don’t need someone motivating them and holding their hands. At their best, OU continuously blew out opponents on a weekly basis and just barely missed out on a NC on a couple of occasions. Give him SC’s talent, and I’ll take my chances. He’s innovative enough to adapt and make the Trojan offense roll teams.
For once I agree with you Arturo!
Sc needs to get back to playing tough physical football
Clay will have to do what Kelly did at ND. Fire the coordinators. Will he have the balls – i doubt it.
No one any good will work for Gomer
Have you seen the top recruits lately that are cutting USC off their list?
Arizona State blew out Utah, the University of Arizona ain’t no punks, and believe it or not, the gutty little Bruins can actually put points on the board . So the mighty Trojans have a rough road ahead of them, because they ar actually a lousy football team.
If they were lousy, they would be 0-8, calm down sir. They have talent, but lack belief in the program right now.
Rah rah rah
That’s the problem, they have talent. It’s a bunch of guys out there with raw talent and bad coaching. Who hasn’t regressed this season?
Lousy?
I like “marginal” I think that’s more appropriate.
Fred, if they keep like they have been, they’ll lose to most of the teams remaining in the schedule. And yes, even to the little gutties!
No we aren’t THAT bad.
Is that you, Clay? Clay Russell? LOL!
Yeah where is that guy tonight? Was that really Clay Helton?
I think it’s she. Remember Helen that mysteriously disappeared this season? My honest hunch is those who are involved with the staff are in here with multiple accounts in order to protect their job security. They sound far too similar to one another to be different individuals.
Yes and that Clay Russell tried to run Fred off the board. They both had the same MO, internet tyrants. Of course they could be SID employees too.
Yes, absolutely! You’re a perceptive one, aren’t you, partner? And Fred? He’s a cool dude.
This is like the Twilight Zone episode, where there is a martian on Maple St.!! TA TA TA TAHHHH!!!
Trust me, It’s pretty dang close!
I started here a year and a half ago, maybe two years. I wondered where helen went.
Might be alive and kicking in another personas. Her extraordinarily loyal spirit and devotion for Gomer is still very much felt around here. LOL!
Funny to hear her on the post game call in show.
You have excellent instincts, RT….
#SpendMoreTimeCoaching,LessTimeTyping
Trust me, MG. I’ve paid my dues to come to know that, such as staying up in wee hours going back and forth with the individual behind the mask. LOL!
I do trust you, RT.
Nothing comes easy, MG!
Helton seemed extremely nervous, pacing the sideline uncomfortably.
As out of place as stupid Sark
I think they play bad because they lack any passion.
Now you’re talkin, RT!
And you’re starting to hallucinate for a gutties victory, correct? LOL!
Lousy football team? They weren’t at the beginning of the season, Fred ——it took a lotta coaching to get them to where they are now…..
Swann already had lunch with candidates trust me on that.
Ok
Kids, please call uncle Jack!
We know he has nothing going on in his life other than SoCal football and that he depends upon this program to compensate for his personal lack of mojo.
His psyche is damaged and he needs our help!
Please talk him off the ledge, we need him here for target practice.
Go away!
Hey Helton, if you’re going to protect sam from running the ball than change the f***ing offense. Everyone on the other side of the ball knows where the play is going and that sam will not run it. Our RB is getting smashed every time on the read-option. Fink is a better fit for this type of offense
Hey Guarino, send helton a memo
Yaassss, Gabbie!!
Many different handles do you play with?…..mental illness must suck, hang in there, it only gets worse…….Are the trade winds blowing
Do I have to, Gabby? I’d just as soon let Scott take care of it. He enjoys it.
P.S.
You are so fricking right about the way Sam is being used. What kind of a joke of a coach transforms Sam into a joke of a quarterback? Take a look at the guy —he’s completely demoralized. The look I saw on Sam’s face at the end is the look that gets your a** kicked every Saturday from here on.
“IN SAM WE TRUST”……..once upon a time
All the tool came out of the woodwork….pathetic
u have a girls name,
….and you enjoy d**k….me too!
does u and ur boy friend like to feed the ducks?
…no, packing fudge….you sound interested
candy is bad for ur teeth, ur boy friend and u shuold go to a denntist,
CH will give his same BS excuses. I keep hearing how SD shows no emotion, quickly moves on from his poor decisions. He needs to start showing emotions and prove he’s not a second year bust. I’d rather have Fink in the Game.
belief is a powerful tool and Sam doesn’t have it right now.
Arizona stops 2 pointer in double OT beats Cal 45-44.
Rich Rod would be a great match for SoCal as well.
Total D bag.
jack b shuold be the couch, he knows every thing and is so much fun,
The tackling in space is beyond pathetic……John Huston needs to see the bench. The has been junk all season
We need to hire Justin Wilcox, to keep the continuity of flunkies.
He just blew the Arizona game going for 2.
Jack?
Are you there, Jack?
Anyone seen Jack?
You sound obsessed.
Art,
It’s actually more of a hobby than an obsession.
its pretty bad when Brian Kelly out coaches you,…
Did anyone hear helton’s post game interview with pete arbogast and john jackson? If so, what did he say?
Have to look at the film.
LMAO!!!
oh my god
He said, IN SAM WE TRUST….end of interview….
He can take sam with him to his new job.
They are in control of their destiny and look forward to be in contention for the Pac12 South.
I don’t know. That’s just my guess.
Exactly. First shot. What marksmanship. [I guess you can skip Helton post game pressers from now on]…..
He gave Notre Dame credit for executing, and coming ready to play. Also mentioned that they were experienced on the o-line. Sounded like excuses.
We have to do better. Hats off to Kelly and ND. They played a heck of a game…. Typical Gomer BS. He is not taking any responsibility for this debacle.
Scott, you and I were absolutely correct in predicting an embarrassing loss for the trojans and their faithful. Spot on, Wolf Pack.
Yet, it’s not totally their fault. You see, most of the homers here are the same people who vehemently and unabashedly support trump, so they are already a mangy bunch of müll…not very analytical nor self-reflective, so it follows that they’d be in denial about how bad the team is too.
Anyhow, I’m laughing specifically at the trump supporters on this here little blog. Because I know there are many of them and that they are hurting tonight, just like they’ve been hurting from the actions of their Dear Lying Leader.
And what has he lied about? Bengazi or his speeches. Maybe how he cleaned his computer clean with bleach.
Are you kidding?
Better question: what hasn’t he lied about? But his supporters are all too deep in denial to admit it, or too dull to see it.
So who did you vote for
Keep the politics out.
I like the president. I support him. I think the USC football team is poorly coached, plays uninspired and will likely lose two or three more football games. Many of us clearly are not in denial. Please cover again how these positions are mutually exclusive?
Well, at least you’re not in denial about one thing…
But CNN told him that all of Trump’s supporters have jumped ship.
Helen just called in to the post game show and called for Helton’s head. If you’ve lost Helen…
He should be gone. Sam should be benched
Sam is experiencing a sloooow death…..thump, thump thump. people are falling off the wagon
Did we have a Helen sighting?……that means bucket is near
Is hirsute Helen still among the living?
You called it, Wolfman, and by the comments I see here, it looks like you’ll survive another head coach.
Too bad, Helton seems to be a decent guy and therefore a bad match for SoCal.
I don’t know if Swann will fire Clay. He needs to see how the season plays out and decide what he and the University consider acceptable results for the team.
Get the program back to top 10 every year and two loses is a down year. That the expectations.
What’s to discuss? You saw it and I did too. What couldn’t happen did. USC came out sloppy and the Domers got ahead and kept scoring.This Trojan team, which has more talented players than the opponent got outcoached pure and simple. From the first offensive play (thank you Nicho) it was mostly down hill. And for a supposed running team, ND got pretty good passing the ball against our defensive backfield. I hope Lynn Swann got an eyeful of what happens when USC plays a good team with Clay Helton in charge.
Dude, take the blinders off, ND is a better team top to bottom. ND is one FG from being ranked in the top 3
You are right on, Gabby. The ND QB is a game breaking National Championship caliber leader for the Irish.
And the reason why is they are better coached. Don’t try to tell me ND has better talent across the board.
It’s not about the talent, it’s what you get out the talent. Evaluating talent is extremely subjective
Just a straight up beating. Back to the drawing board! (Try not to jump off any high walls, Trojan fans….)
Life goes on.
Not for Jack B.
He’s gone AWAL
Lane Helton needs to fear the tarmac.
funny!
But it’s also the sanctions.
lol +1
Up next, ASU, they just stuffed Utah. Good Luck Helton, blow the rest of the season, you are toast.
More like, blow one more game and lose the south and your out.
Losing the South is blowing the rest of the season! It doesn’t look like it gets any easy for this SC team.
GT, USC will beat Ariz State, where they live, this coming Saturday. Bank on it.
Didn’t you predict the same thing aboot ND?
The bottom line is, USC is poorly coached, and has no identity, or direction, Clay Helton did not have the ability to hire top coordinators, and now he is finally being exposed.
The Helton doubters are looking like genius’.
True , but I would keep the RB coach. He’s doing a good job.
A great incoming coach should recognize that
True.
Helen is on 710AM right now. She wants to hire Les Miles as DC
He is doing damage control
I have a feeling he starts fink this week.
How bad is Darnold’s ankle injury?
Must be bad enough to say he been hurt since wsu. Why take a chance on him getting more hurt before he goes to nfl. Let him rest see what fink can do against asu if you lose you lost because you had to start a qb with no experience. If you win your a genius.
Oh God no.
Against ASU??? That is a scary thought with that OLine.
Zone read rpo asu has trouble stopping it.
Chip Kelly hire him before UCLA does
No. God no.
I second that!
Mora issued a statement. He just turned down Swann.
Like I been saying swann is looking
It was a joke
Mora not going anywhere
With UCLA remaining schedule. They will be lucky to win a game. That seat will be on fire. 12 million buy out is only drawback.
You know this how? Are you a member of DG’s wine sipping fraternity?
face it, UCLA can’t afford his buyout. Especially with all of the season ticket holders dropping their tickets this season.
Chip Kelly was spotted having lunch with swann last week fyi
Who paid?
Who know probably USC at the end lol
Mora has already turned down swann. He is staying a ucla. Kelly would be a natural fit for what sc is trying to do
He flamed out twice. Never plays any defense. Never plays tough physical football.
Exactly, not what Swann wants in a coach
Kelly flamed out in the pro’s. College record is super. What he did with 3 star talent was fantastic.
In the end, he could not match up with big physical teams. Stanford, Auburn and Ohio State(his student coached that game) but it was still the same philosophy.
With Oregon talent.
The guy coached 4 years. 46 7 record. Went to 2 Rose Bowls. 1 National Championship and 1 Fiesta Bowl. Yeah he sucks
I think you keep Clancy too
As long as we get rid of Bradford. The DBs have regressed horribly.
Exactly.
His offense was innovative and new at the time. It got exposed when he went up against teams that were physical and knew controlling the line of scrimmage was key.
I never said he sucked. That offense can only have success against weaker teams.It’s not built to control the line of scrimmage.
Ok answer this what offense is being ran the most in the hs game?
I do not follow high school football. I am assuming that is what hs means.
High schools use Kelly’s offense and every recruit would kill to play for him at SC.
My point exactly
Like my comment earlier about Kelly not working in the NFL had holes in it, as you say.
Appealing to popularity is also a logical fallacy you are appealing to.
Wasn’t appealing to popularity in the sense you’re talking about. My point was about how recruits, most of whom already play in the system, would flock to SC even more so than they do now; they’d want to play for the innovative coach who started it all.
Like I said earlier to uscfan, if they hire him, I would support and hope he succeeds. And I would be the first to say I was wrong about hiring him.
Fight On, my fellow Trojan, Arturo.
The spread offense. Olineman and dlineman are no longer being developed. The power run game is going away. This is why michigan is not doing good alabama is grabbing all the power lineman in the country. Also look at how there offense is changing too. Saban is seeing the big picture.
His player development was exceptional. Let him develop SC talent. He didn’t get exposed as his team’s barely lost close games. His team’s talent level got exposed.
Exactly
Have to admit. He did have an exceptional QB
If USC were to hire him. I would support him and hope for the best. If he became successful, I would admit I was wrong also.
Lost to Auburn 22 to 19 come on. What about putting up 59 on 3rd ranked Fla State in the Rose Bowl? Who was defending NC champs?
He would clean up with socal talent. He a recruiter too.
Thought USC wanted to be a physical running team with a strong defense. That’s not Kelly.
He flamed out in the pros, just like Nick Saban btw, not in college. At OU, they were a machine.
Get off the Kelly kick, SC can and should do better
Who then
You use your TE to help seal edge and weekside is left unblocked to see if he collapses if he dies you pull and run. Same read on same side playside read. Fink has a good solid foundation on this. He would run all over ASU.
Swanny played for Chuck Knoll and John McKay. He knows great coaches. Does he see that in CH? You can’t learn on the job for two years at SC.
Very true but he has not learned. Let’s see how asu game goes.
Well said, partner. Good stuff!
Here’s my wish list:
– Joe Moorhead
– Dave Aranda
– Greg Schiano
What? No Tee Martin? How could you? LOL!
Aranda would be a good choice.
SC is one of the few universities that can afford him.
Or what about Jeremy Pruitt? Alabama’s defense is nasty good.
Greg Schiano would be a fantastic hire, and he would bring respect to the PAC 12 conference . Joe Moorhead, and Dave Aranda need to prove themselves at a lesser school, IMO
I hope that’s not based off his NFL career. Accord to a source, he’s a pr**k and wears out his welcome…..I forgot, USC recruits itself
Greg Schiano? not as a head coach….His skill set falls into the “yes sir” category….just saying
Other than large $$$$$$ 96, what leads you to believe those candidates would care to coach in the bozo u fishbowl.
Squatter, who will want to coach at ugly when mora is fired? We all know ugly is cheaper than cheap
Big coaches in big programs are used to the press and big expectations that come with the job. Are kidding??? SC is a dream job. Top 5 legacy program. People would kill to coach at SC.
Trying to read all of these comments is a daunting task. I remember hearing that USC would take 10 years to recover from the sanctions leveled on them. I thought that was a crazy statement. Pro teams don’t have as many players as college teams do and they manage. Someone pointed out that pro teams can hire more players. Well successful pro teams have coaches who know football. USC doesn’t.
I can see that Trojans were overmatched on the sidelines as well as the field. The O line started to gel last week. This week with the “starters” were a bowl of jello. Why the coaches tinker with things which are not broken is beyond me. Sam Damnold has not improved this season. He has obviously regressed. Tinkering with his delivery was a deliberate act of sabotage.
I didn’t watch long enough to see if we committed the predictable false starts this game but if we didn’t it’s a miracle. At this point of the season watching sloppy play and poor decisions made by the players points to only one person. The head coach needs to be held responsible for this skid into high school ball.
I’m with the people saying bring out the tarmac the party is over. Too many good players have been wasted by this staff.
I don’t see how Helton recovers from this. I hope he does because he’s a very nice man.
Now it’s up to Swann to push some buttons and it’ll be very interesting to see which ones he does and how fast.
What’s amazing is, as bad as we are, we’ll still kill ucla in the Coliseum in Nov. It’s all relative. Our real rivals are vastly superior to us now in size, speed, quickness, desire and skill.
But compared to baby ucla, USC is still a monolithic program that will take them apart.
That’s the only silver lining that came to my mind after tonight’s amazing fiasco. All those still on Helton’s bandwagon, please support him like never before. He’s gonna need all the help he can get to right this ship.
Fight On! Beat ASU in Tempe!
Well, maybe Helton should be charged with ”lack of institutional control”. This team has consistently been inconsistent all year. The rest of the season, I fear for the worst.
May this loss, open some eyes and cause this team to play better, from here on. That’s all I can hope for at this point.
Fight On
We Are SC!
Exactly what anyone with a clue knew was going to happen
No surprise Sark recruits Gomer coaching equal dog crap
The thing that may hurt the most is how many recruits saw this game and are considering ND. They recruit many of the same kids we do.
Things could be worse- they could be FSU.
This game was a joke. Darnold way overrated . As was the whole team and coaching staff!
Next week is the telling tale. Can Helton get the team back on track to beat ASU over there? If not get rid of him or major changes in the coaching staff. Pendergast is the most over rated high price DC around. Making $850K is absurd. The defensive never shuts down anyone for a whole game. Tyson Helton is a waste. Bradford is worthless. Nansen should have left with Sark. Tee Martin to go back to the wide-outs and give up play calling. Callaway is lost with the running game. A disgraceful performance overall including the coaching staff. A team that can’t tackle in week eight. Turnovers. galore game after game with none on your end.
As of 11:00pm, 400+ replies to wolf’s post…..OMG….dude hit the “motherload”………cha-ching
I started commenting on Scott Wolf’s blog years ago, because I thought Lane Kiffin didn’t have any leadership skills, or direction, and needed to be fired . Then I turned it up a notch, because I thought the Steve Sarkisian hire was absolutely horrible, and I was right, because he did nothing to improve the line of scrimmage play, and hired one of the worst offensive line coaches in modern day history . Those issues have continued to haunt this team, which I personally find to be unbelievable.
I really liked Helton’s comment during the post game presser when he was speaking at the ND lectern. His comment of “we have several corrections to make” is the understatement of the decade. One correction at head coach would be a good start. Helton is a nice guy, but way out of his league. It is sad that mediocrity has become acceptable at SC.
The saddest part is for the players . They chose SC over ND for their development, they trusted the coaches. That is all you have to see. ND would have scored from wherever they got the ball. Turnovers are usually a problem, it made no difference in this game. SC was like watching boys vs grown men. Who prepared them out of high school, this staff.You know recruits saw this, which school would you want to play for,if you enjoy winning vs being clobbered. I doubt SC can beat Arizona schools.
That was sorry football…
Sorry-a** Football…
The players have been cheated by their adult leadership…
Not even close to being ready…
On to next week…
Maybe Haden will meet Helton after the game on the Tarmack next week…
Sorry a** football…
Coach H. is an average coach, that’s okay providing he surrounds himself with the best. USC can always attract the talent to be great. Instead he chooses friends and relatives. He needs new assistants starting with our O line coach, QB coach, and most importantly, an Offensive Coordinator. Also, Sam needs another season under his belt.
Wolfman,
Is 445 hits a record?
I’m surprised they aren’t lining up to thank you for talking them out of betting the spread!
Your genius goes unrewarded again.
#dontdeserveyou
My thoughts for new head coaches:
David Shaw. Stanford
Whittingham. Utah
Franklin. Penn st
Wisconsin coach
Texas coach
Scooter, you keep saying what is wrong with the Trojans which is easy to do, but we don’t see any analysis on what they need to to improve,
. It is like me saying you are horrible as a journalist but I won’t tell u why u are horrible nor tell u how to improve. Write on what you think the Trojans need to do to improve
If Swannykeeps Helton, then the condition is to release the o and def coordinator, o line coach, and Baxter. They all have under performed
458 comments? No way I’m reading them.
