USC Injury Update

Steven Mitchell (shoulder) will make the trip to Arizona State but how effective he will be remains to be seen. Christian Rector left practice with a hand injury. Chuma Edoga was ill according to Clay Helton. And Stephen Carr (foot) is not expected to play.

  1. Holy Crap! Dan Weber reports that (1) USC’s Wednesday practice was nothing special —-players just moving around, going thru the motions in a business-like but not exuberant fashion, and (2) players openly admitting that they MAY have felt BETTER about themselves LAST year at 2-3 than they do now at 6-2. Is this the beginning of something? Dan didn’t want to call the players out, but he winced throughout the entire interview when asked questions about where the team is mentally, as opposed to physically.

    • I really like this Dan guy, MG. He’s usually spot on about what’s going on in the team, and he’s incredibly sharp-minded belying his unassuming exterior. And you know what? I think even he might do a much better job as SC head coach than the current coaching trainee. LOL!

      • ….except can you imagine Dan giving the half time speech down 28 to zip at South Bend, RT….?

        • He’d probably be good. Go Dan!

No false enthusiasm or yelling. No fake posturing. Maybe he would just break out into song, something from Woodstock, and the team would go wild. I’m all for it!

          • It’d be a real classic if he could belt out “Foxey Lady” in the locker room! LOL! Or even better yet, “Are you experienced?”

          • I was thinking more along the lines of Roger Daltrey and The Who – “See me, Feeeeeel me, Touch me, Heeeeall meeeeee!”

          • LOL! Yeah, and sing “Who Are You?” staring and pointing his finger directly on Helton with a quasi McKay cap!

          • You’re letting this take you over, RT! Watch out! I saw an Outer Limits episode like this once —-you could wind up between two dimensions!

          • We’ll have to get JB on stage one of these days to listen to him perform one of his regular Woodstock repertoire, MG!

          • Okay—so the dream scenario is: The pressure finally gets to Helton and he simply doesn’t show up for the Arizona State game (later it is discovered that he’s been granted asylum in the same hotel as Julian Assange).
Dan walks into the USC locker room and fires Tee and Clancy, looks into Sam’s eyes and whispers “you’re gonna go out there and start playing like last year, mister….!”

        • MG, the only thing he would need in that situation would be a potent megaphone bullhorn! LOL!

    • USC rolled over in South Bend like I’ve never seen before. Never in 55 years of following the team.

And I’ve never basically quit watching a USC/ND game at halftime, so I rolled over too. SC was so obviously out of it, there was no hope.

Strange days with USC football. Nobody seems to know what’s going on. Just a lot of negativity, questions, coaches dodging issues and showing frustration. Cupcake Helton just acts like it’s business as usual.

      • I understand what Helton is thinking: “Maybe it’s best to pretend everything is fine —-addressing the internal issues might exacerbate them.” But, when Dan Weber, literally shakes his head talking about the Team dynamic (LITERALLY SHAKES HIS HEAD!), you sense some serious sh** is on the horizon. I feel for Helton because he’s no more equipped to deal with a mutiny than Kiffin or Sark. And there aren’t enough real leaders on this team to take the bull by the horns and call a players only meeting to clear the air (as was done last year).

        • I think we really do lack team leadership outside of maybe a guy like Cameron Smith. But who knows? We fully slept-walked through ND, as though we were completely resigned to our inferiority. We reached a new level with that effort. I can see how the team’s psyche would be ruined without great coaching to reverse the slide.

          • Speaking of great coaching, the last time we had something like that has been almost a decade already. Way too long!

          • So true! [And that hiring was a 2nd or 3rd choice deal —-maybe we’ll luck out like that again someday]….
            #That’sTheOnlyWayItWillHappen

          • Let’s hope so, MG. Make no mistake. We’re in search of the next Jones, McKay, Robinson, or Carroll. I’m sure we’ll find him, but it better be sooner than later.

          • …and, in the meantime, I guess I am okay with Dan Weber….

  2. If the Dodgers lose the game #2 tonight, the responsibility sits squarely on Dave “Gene Mauch” Roberts shoulders.

    • Are you sure the Chimp could be totally off the hook? But hey, don’t worry, pumpkin. He will be somewhat accountable for this Saturday’s debacle on sucla gutties. LOL!

      • Don’t ever bring up the little gutties to a Troll. That’s called “deflection” in their limited vocab. They’ll be all over you like a cheap suit and start chasing you down. It’s pretty funny actually. They get all riled up and start attacking USC like they’re on the NCAA COI. It’s the Troll gig.

  3. I’m can’t quite remember when Stephen Carr went out but does anyone know if he would be eligible to redshirt?

I think the RB’s would be ok with RoJo and Maleapai for the rest of the year. I think Aca’Cedric Ware is still in the mix, too.

  4. Where is Porter?…. playing the same week of the surgery set his recovery back(thanks clay). The guy is a beast. He brings stability and leadership.

I’m sure it’s driving him crazy, on the sidelines while the team self-destruct before his eyes

    Grizzly Adams

    • Helton put Porter on the field in a game 2 days after his toe surgery. Now he’s missed at least 1/2 the season. Who knows? He may be done for the year as an effective player.
