      • A little sparring partner before we hit the farm. Then a date with the horns(tough one). We’ll find out real quick what this team is made out. Hopefully a big improvement in the trenches

        • I kind of see it as a fresh start, hopefully new faces on staff, more intensity, young players stepping up. Next season will be here before we know it but we have to get through this one first.

    • Every two years we play either the wa and ore school or the wsu and osu school. 2018 will be the second year for wsu and osu.

  1. Oregon plays Bowling Green, San Jose St, and Portland St. ….pathetic and embarrassing. Has to be the easiest OOC schedule in the country……..The program is a shell of what it once was.

How valuable was Kelly to the University, the same could be said about Pete

  2. SC needs to contact WSU and talk to them about playing on Saturday. Forget the league, forget tv, just inform radio. If tv wants to televise it, some station will. These Friday night games are for the birds.

    • USC’s schedule —on the road in consecutive weeks against Stanford and Texas and then against Washington State on Friday—-is as bad as it gets. We couldn’t come up with a better place to schedule Texas than the week after we play Stanford?

      • “We couldn’t come up with a better place to schedule Texas than the week after we play Stanford”

Exactly…We are going to find out real quick what this team is made of….I pray that it is good….shall we bow our heads

        • I’ll say a prayer with you, Gabby. But, damn, couldn’t we play Oregon State before Texas? Or Cal?

          • Stanford will have a way more dangerous quarterback next year (his name is Costello—the guy they shoulda used this year). And, last I heard, they have a couple of freshman running backs who are supposed to be real hot —I think one is named Lund and the the other one is named Wedington.

          • Somewhat of a QB controversy at Stanford. We all know how that played out at USC, the odd man out transfered

            Good post…thanks for the info

      • Based on how tough TEXAS played us this year in the Coliseum, I’m saying we’ll be a solid underdog to the ‘Horns in Austin, especially on the heels of STAN.

Helton better have some solutions for our OL or we won’t be going anywhere in 2018. Will there be a switch at our OL coach position? Big question.

        • I hate to say this cuz I like and respect Callaway as a person —but we need a younger coach for our o-line. Somebody the players can relate to and play hard for. The time may have come for the great Coach Baxter too —-for the same reasons. Unless we can grab some wonder boys from the NFL to help Clay next year we’re in serious doo-doo.

          • Ya, I hate to say it but I think Baxter has jumped the shark. Too many snafus in his dept this season. But he’s great at working with players and their other areas of adjusting to college successfully, so I wish we could keep him on in some other capacity – like chief towel waver without the towel.

          • Baxter adds —what shall we call it? —-maybe, ‘wisdom’ to the staff. But I think it’s hard for teenagers to relate to him and Callaway. I’d love it if they could keep him without giving him actual coaching responsibilities. Do we get an allotted number of consultants every year?

          • Move him to recruiting … USC -Swann know we have holes on the coaching staff.. With Martin possibly leaving to Tennessee others may be told to look elsewhere.. I see 3-4 coaching changes coming..As for the schedule .. Smh.. Hope they figure it out fast.. 8-4 7-5 after a 10-12 win season is not good for recruiting.

          • Plan on a rocky start, USCDAN1986 —-Helton will need to pull the team together (again) after a couple of probable losses at the front end. We could finish real strong, though.

          • Exactly, better to lose early than late. When it comes to the CFP committee, short-term memory could be our ally

          • Plan “A”: Beat Stanford, rest up against Texas, come back and beat the hell outta Washington State……

          • Fink is good.. The schedule is my concern.. It was this year too.. But hey 9-2 at this point in 2017 is pretty good… Next year we wait.

          • Will be more experienced across the board. Playing those two teams in a row isn’t preferable but will have bodies that have experience and knowledge of the system. We’re ready.

          • Baxter still can’t get 11 guys on the field for an extra point in game freaking 11 of the season.

The WHOLE staff needs to go, keep the RB coach, and get a real staff.

And F this, “relate to the teenagers krap”, you think Saben relates ? He doesn’t GIVE A S***

          • Gabby —so Ed doesn’t reprimand us again for repeating ourselves, maybe we should start listing the names and addresses of mental health specialists after each Cortez post. Different names. Different addresses. Each time.
            #AnythingToKeepEdHappy

          • Well, look at the big brain on Cortez. I have to admit you’re right about Saban’s attitude toward coddling—and, if you take a look at his staff, some of those guys look like they’re pushing 90. Maybe we DON’T need guys the teenagers can relate to. Maybe we just need guys who can get teenagers to give 100% every play, every game —-and shut the hell up after the whistle blows.

          • 1st rule of coaching is to be respected. There is very limited room for friendships with the players.

          • ” like chief towel waver without the towel.”

            Funny!

We need to be doing the pushing-around next season not vice versa

          • That is SO on the money, Gabby. That should be the team’s mantra! We say we’re gonna do it every year —-time to do it!

  3. Scooter no mention of the BYE for USC on October 6. Will that help USC will that slow down USC, will that be a nonfactor? Go find out and report.

  4. NO back to back home games.Road back to back Stanford, Texas then Friday home WSU. Team will need to finish UNLV game ready to roll.Possibly a new QB will need to navigate the road games and Friday like a Veteran.

    • Another crap schedule —-Stanford and Texas back to back —ON THE ROAD. That’s worse than this year —-when we got them back to back AT HOME. Then we get to come home for Washington State on FRIDAY.
      #BRAINDEADSCHEDULING

        • I’d say yes for sure except for one thing, Gabby —–Bryce adores Coach Shaw and vice versa.

          • He’s the best in the Pac 12, Gabby —and too smart to want to be anywhere near President Maxie.

          • I’ve been watching Nova—–I understand they can do that now, Gabby!
            #ButIt’sRisky&Expensive….
            #…AndItMayDestroyTheOriginalCoachShaw
            #Can’tMakeOmeletteW/OBreakingAFewEggs

          • RB’s generally have a short career in NFL. If your draft stock is high turning Pro seems like best decision. Rojo also likely to turn pro.

          • Agreed, peter. It’s the Carr Show next year.
Luckily, we’ve got the best running backs coach in the Pac 12.

          • Totally agree about coach.VM will also continue to give us good yards
Shaw is 7th highest paid in country. Believe he’s got his dream job.Media is very respective, and the band is his gang.

          • You’re right —I forgot about Vavae! He’s gonna help us a lot —-smart, tough runner.

          • I think most of us just think about RB when they carry ball.
I’ve heard Deland,Clay talk more about downs.Blocking, pass routes and such.More than once coaches have said a good route opens field to other recievers. Last week Carr didn’t carry ball, yet he ran at least 4 pass routes. That was Carr test to see how ready he was.

          • Really good insights. [Hope UCLA doesn’t realize that you just told them what to look for]!

          • Deland has been one of the few bright spots on the coaching staff. I’m glad he works us, and hoping he’s back next season

          • Man, if we don’t keep Deland it would be crazy. I listen to all his interviews and he sounds better every time I hear him. He’s a disciplinarian who’s got charisma. Pretty unbeatable combination.

  5. ….for all the Helton haters out there– this schudule will be the end of Helton to be sure…no joke but UNLV actually has a good QB and will be a lot tougher than people think…take a second and think who will run the SC offense…FINK…hmmm…has anyone seen him throw the football…OUCH…both Stanford and Texas have very good coaches and SC caught them on a rebuilding year…take a deep breath and realize in 2019 JT Daniel will be here but until then 2018 will be brutal…

  6. Gomer will blow one game and get blown away in another, SC will play for the PAC 12 South title and all the rah rah’s will be overjoyed.

    USC needs to go independent

    • Gomer is going to blow more than one game next year if he’s still at USC, I guarantee you that. Darnold is most likely going to leave, Ronald Jones probably gone. Gomer & Co. don’t believe in grooming any QB’s to take over by giving them any playing time. Maybe if Helton can stop coaching long enough in one of the remaining games to where USC can jump out to a big lead, he’ll be able to bring in Fink.

    • “USC needs to go independent”

Since you seem to be the only one that has a clue. Can you negotiate a super duper TV contract. No excuses, it needs to be the most lucrative in college football

  7. USC should schedule more Friday night games, high school level coaching staff’s usually have their teams play on Friday nights.

  8. OMFG, the whining about the schedule is pathetic.

WE ARE SC, we play anybody anywhere, remember PC saying that ?

    • Do you remember when we went on the road to play Auburn. It was the start to something special. 34 straight wins, 37-1 overall, with the only loss coming at Cal(lead by Aaron Rodgers), that ended in OT.

This was a run unprecedented in modern college football, and may never be duplicated. I get tingly just thinking about it

  9. Finally the Pac 12 is looking out for USC, giving them a much needed bye week before arch-rival Colorado at home. Thanks Larry!

    • I guess we have to laugh to keep from crying —the front end of the schedule couldn’t be worse.
Our schedules are beginning to look like the ones the Raiders used to get when the Commissioner hated Al Davis.

        • Every time I look at a post Larry Scott USC schedule, I feel like I’m re-living those days…..
          #TryStickingParityUpYourButt,Larry

          • The marquee brand in the PAC12, and we get treated like the stepchild…….Where is the complaint box! (what do you mean they got rid of it)

  10. Not that USC shouldn’t be able to win every game on the schedule, but it really seems like the Pac 12 does everything in it’s power to ensure USC has the most difficult path possible. What an embarrassment. I really think that if the SEC had the same schedule as USC (9 conference games and terrible back-to-back away games against tough teams) they would not have the same success as they have in the past. Especially Alabama.

  11. This Larry Scott character scheduling Friday PAC 12 matchups and night games on Saturday, he’s probably ashamed of the way he’s run the PAC 12 conference into the ground and doesn’t want anyone to see. LOL

  12. Well, it looks like next year the PAC 12 is going to displace the SEC as far as the conference that scheduled the most OOC cupcakes. Well done.

  13. With USC’s cupcake filled schedule for 2018, Gomer shouldn’t lose more than his usual 3. Another stellar performance in the making by Gomer that all the sunshine pumpers will be able to tout as another tremendous Gomer accomplishment.
