Paul McDonald USC Trojans National Champion!

  • Ignore_the_trolls

    Paul McDonald and Anthony Munoz???

    • Tebow_Obama

Anthony Munoz…arguably the greatest offensive linemen of all time.

      • Gabby

Another USC lineman will be in the discussion, Tyron Smith….6-5 320 physique of a linebacker

    • SucKiffin

Big Anthony missed this game with knee injury and most of 1978-79
Oline was Keith Van Horne Brad Budde Pat Howell Chris Foote and Otis Page

      • Ignore_the_trolls

        Thanks. Good info!

  • Julio

That team would’ve been a great nfl team. How bout a little love for the underrated Hoby Brenner!

    • CORTEZ THE KILLER

79 team was better, 72 team was the best

      • SucKiffin

1979 didn’t have the D that 1978 had … better offensively but not on D especially up front

  • CORTEZ THE KILLER

Pasadena Trojan will be happy with this picture, he thinks Wolfie slants all the pics he puts up against SC.

    • JBKayak

Wolfs original caption read, “The play was intercepted”

    • Pasadena Trojan

He usually does and I did comment above of the photo. I thanked Scooter. And thank you for the nice words.

    • SucKiffin

Yes mock the Kiffy Suck Gomer disasters all you want
But don’t mess with our history !

  • CORTEZ THE KILLER

The 1978 team was good, ASU loss marred the season. SC won this game 17-10. Went to Bama and beat the crap out of them that year.

The ruins lost to the Beavs at Corvallis the week before and took the shine off the match up. The game wasn’t as close as the score indicated. The ruins dual running back threat of Theotis Brown and James Owens was shut down by the mighty Trojan defense.

      • SucKiffin

        U mean this Defense:
Rich Dimler Myron Lampka Ty Sperling Charlie Moses Garry Cobb Larry McGrew Riki Gray
Dennis Johnson Chip Banks Steve Busick Eric Scoggins Tim Lavender Dennis Smith Willie Crawford Herb Ward and Ronnie Lott
Almost all played in NFL !

  • SDSillyCyclist

Thanks to all of you for the comments that should have been part of a caption on this picture. This site would be even more aggravating if not for the comments.

  • Pasadena Trojan

Scooter, thank you for the great photo. That is Paul McDonald destroying the ruin scum of U Convicts of LA.

    • gotroy22

Terry Donahue’s third straight loss to John Robinson!

  • This game was greatly eclipsed by the following week’s game against ND when McDonald brought Troy back in the last minute to set up a winning field goal, which resulted in SC winning a piece of the 1978 National Championship. (Note: SC beat Alabama soundly but the Crimson Tide shared the title with the Trojans)

    • SucKiffin

1978 schedule was brutal going 11-1 that year tells u how great a team this was :
at Bama … no one won at Bama in those days
MichSt … co Big 10 champs w/ Kirk Gibson
at ASU … considered Devils biggest game ever at the time
at Stanford … Sun Bowl champs
Washington … defending Rose Bowl champs
Notre Dame .. Cotton Bowl champs
Michigan … one of Bo’s best teams

    • SucKiffin

Last minute … try last second!
And SC actually led ND 24-3 at one time and then Robo started to sub D too early and ND scored 2 quick TDs in 4th to get back in it ( plus McDonald severely sprained an ankle that stopped the on slaught … an injury that forced him to miss next week at Hawaii and hampered him in Rose Bowl too)
Frank Jordan’s FG was with no time left … amazing game

      • Ignore_the_trolls

That was actually the first USC game I ever attended. Got the bug and ended up going to school there. Good memories.
