Pac-12 vs. SEC

Chip Kelly is making less money at UCLA than he would at Florida. But Kelly knows from previous experience the Pac-12 is not the SEC. You think playing before 36,000 at Martin Stadium in Pullman is tougher than 92,000 at Georgia?

No, Kelly knew he could handle the Oregon States, Cals, Arizonas, Arizona States of the world. And really only need worry about beating David Shaw. Chris Petersen’s hardly invincible and why would USC scare a good coach in its present form?

That’s a lot less to worry about than Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, Gus Malzahn and the chance Tennessee or Arkansas might get lucky and hire a good coach.

  1. Sounds like SW is saying that Show Cause Chip doesn’t want to compete and that STAN and UW, two teams that were hammered by USC when we last played them, are the P12’s only strong teams. Curious thinking there.

Meanwhile, most the teams in the SEC are crap and Show Cause Chip has had difficulty winning the big one before. Now I get it.

We knew all along that Mr. Show Cause was afraid of the Gator gig. So did the Gators after they first spoke with him a week ago. I’m glad post-NFL Kelly is officially a bruin now. I never wanted him to be a Trojan, that’s for sure. Seems like it’s worked out perfect for all involved.

    • I guess the bRuins are happy to hire a guy who prefers a mediocre program with low expectations and a fan base of 20,000 season ticket holders. Sounds like a pretty good transition to retirement for him. CK’s time in the NFL showed that he is a guy who can’t lead an organization to get close to their potential.

I remember when he was fired from Philly that one of the Philly o-linemen was quoted as saying something like “It wasn’t so much the offense didn’t work any more. The league did catch up with it, but rather it was everything else about CK that didn’t work.”

      • I thought that the holier than thou UGLY bRUINS would want nothing to do with this clown. Hypocrites always.

        • Absolutely. Seems times have changed over there, what with the 3 shoplifters and all….

        • Just weeks ago, some high-minded Trolls were saying ucla would never accept Show Cause Chip in Wimpwood. Then came the banners.

  2. IDK but both teams at the Iron bowl has some ‘big in the a**’ lineman in the trenches that would give us fits. Let’s win the conference and play Georgia or OSU

      • 100% …I love Sam D But until we have dominant OL and DL and pipe line behind them we remain a step away from playoff

        • So true. We aren’t there by a mile yet. Just hope Helton’s focus is on the trenches, both with new talent and a better OL coach. It’s Helton’s future, or funeral.

          • We will have to recruit better east of the Mississippi, lineman wise.It seems west there aren’t deep classes. OL coach a must.

          • As long as Shaw is up north, and that will be a long while, any young man with brains and braun is going to look hard at Stanford.
The quicker way is to get a brilliant OL coach.

  3. complete garbage. Chip went to UCLA because Florida cut bait, they would rather have Scott Frost.

  4. There is 3 powerhouse teams in the SEC. Florida used to be one too. If you think you are a good coach why not go play against the best and find out. I think he was afraid of his image getting stained more, or he knows he isn’t that good. ucla is a safe place for him I guess. Like I said earlier, I don’t know who to feel sorry for, Chip or ucla.

  5. AUB routing ‘Bama in 4th. Put those ripped jeans on Saban. The Kiffer is laughing.

    Dilly, Dilly

  6. I hope this doesn’t ruin Nick Saban, but Jalen Hurts is wearing a white sock and a crimson pad. No discipline at all.

  7. Jeff Miller, of The Press Enterprise reported that, “There are issues with his employment in the SEC because of new rules in the conference about hiring coaches with NCAA baggage. Florida was reportedly concerned about these issues.” That may have been the main reason Florida may have backed out of running.

But, there may be some irony to that statement.

  8. A query from Eeyore (a pessimistic, gloomy, depressed, anhedonic, old grey stuffed donkey): “Why would USC scare a good coach in its present form?”

A query from the Trojan Family — Why hasn’t the Daily News reassigned Eeyore (a pessimistic, gloomy, depressed, anhedonic, old grey stuffed donkey) to the Obituaries section?

    • Instead of doing research on the deceased, he would have filled up the space with an update of Western Michigan football or truck racing…

        • If Wolf took this blog at all serious it could be one of the best in the country with all the great minds (except owns and cortez) that post on here. As it is now, we carry him and his idiotic posts.

          • Absolutely – SW seems lazy (where is the news/research that would be useful), and he seems obsessed with irrelevance (how many times do we need to hear more about Western MIchigan).

  9. Have Trojan’s coaches in the booth chewed out Darnold or any receivers on the red phone his year?

  10. Ummm, prior to this season, Gus Malzahn went 8-5, 7-6 & 8-5. That’s almost Mora bad. You can’t just make things up.

    Clown Blog.

    • And…the 2017 CFB season is on drugs. One of the best I’ve ever seen! No way to script this. The Committee has its hands full.

      • Darn near about to pull names out of a hat. Conf championships are going to very weighty this year. This is why I love college ball over pro

        • CFB is so far ahead of the NFL as a pure game. It’s unbeatable.

We just have to figure out the targeting penalty. I don’t know how defenders make tackles today with any kind of confidence.

        • If Wisconsin loses next week (leaving no undefeated teams) and USC takes care of business and wins the conference, you can bet we’re gonna be talked about, Pudly.
          #EvenMoreThanLastYear

          • You’re right —but, after South Bend, it’ll be nice to be back in the conversation. [I always like the “nobody wants to play USC now” talk that comes at the end of the season].

          • Not sure I’d go that far, we haven’t really been winning with the same energy we showed last year.

          • We’ve lost some luster, that’s for sure, Pudly. But, overall, we might be JUST ABOUT as good as last year. Arizona and UCLA were a lot trickier games than last year. And, then, there’s the absence of Adoree.
            #AndThePresenceOfJackJones

          • I do believe if we played tonight rather than last week, people wood feel better about coming away with the win. Most the games have been close or upsets. Rather be us than Miami or bammy this weekend.

          • Good point. I think you’re right. Factor in the fact that UCLA was the pre-season pick to finish second in the South and they played their hearts out AND we still beat them.

          • He’ll be a big part of the CG. I’m just praying they get him out of man coverage. I have never seen a corner get turned around as easily as poor Jack.

          • Unfortunately unlike a lot of years in the recent past including the Pete Carroll era, we haven’t looked the part of a playoff team in 11 of 12 games this year.

      • My wife just asked me, if Georgia and Auburn play for the SEC championship and the winner goes to the playoffs, how do they justify taking Alabama over the loser of the SEC championship. Tough question.

  11. Only team to worry about from the sec is auburn. If they lose next week that will be 3 losses and need to be ranked below sc

  12. Amazingly, Malzahn was total toast after the LSU loss. Now, he’s a God and ARK will do cartwheels to steal him away.

  13. sEc is very strong on the lines but not up to par to the PAC 12 qb’, receivers, and db’s. PAC is more sophiscated on offense

  14. If the Trojans played an SEC schedule under Clay Helton the only team USC would beat would be the FCS OOC opponent.

    Maybe.

    LMFAO!!!!!!

    • Sure thing troll. Because Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, miss st, ole miss, Arkansas, Vandy, A&M, Missouri, and LSU are murderers row.

      • All those teams and an FCS team put up more points on Alabama than USC with all their 4 & 5 star talent who were coached by Helton…remember 52-6?

        • I thought Trojans were in a position to compete with Bama or anybody else at end of last season

          • Top tier SEC teams would mop the floor with any Clay Helton coached team, doesn’t matter what time of the season.

          • BAMA didn’t look very good. Not a sterling Saban look today. Even the best get eaten alive every once in awhile.

          • And we all know it’s only a matter of time before Alabama falls back to the crowd. This is possibly greatest run ever, but like all runs, it will end. It will end for the same reason, other schools hire away assistants. Just the nature of college football.

          • Sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you…especially in college football.

          • That’s why we finished #3. IMO, we need help in the trenches and 80% of our problems will be fixed. You put a few legit AAs on our OL, coach ’em better, and we would be so much more fun to watch. We could take it all then.

          • After last year’s ND game, there was in interview on ESPN radio with a couple of Vegas bookmakers. Both said that on a neutral field, Trojans -Bama would be a toss- up in terms of odds…you can see why, looking at how Trojans performed after early October of last year.

  15. Hey 88Straight tell us all again how “smart” Nick Saban was going with a true frosh QB in Hurts last year. Funny how they seem to lose in critical games NOW and make bonehead plays. LOL!!!

    Backfired on you yet again.

Saban even won a championship with a way less talented graduate transfer Florida reject but he was a 5th year senior. LOL!!!

I repeat…any head coach resorting to a true frosh QB is pretty much dumb. Don’t even know how it ever came down to a true frosh QB for Saban but he had 4 previous recruiting classes to address this but didn’t. The same went for Jim Mora. He thought he could go with Josh Rosen and now he is fired.

How did Matt Barkley work out as a true frosh. it was Pete Carroll’s worst year since his 1st season.

I hate true freshmen with a passion. They are NOT ready. These high school punks think they can do it all and rarely ever come through.

  16. Scooter, leave, just leave. U are useless in giving ur blog pertinent information. Ur bama will not even go to the conference playoff and they always have an easier schedule than USC. So in the words of My DAD,” Blow it out of your ears”. He also said that if somebody like u were in his foxhole, he would worry more about you than the enemy. U are nothing more than a pencil neck geek, from Freddie Blasse

  17. You think like such a defeatist. But what else is new. I think if you have Chip truth serum, none of that garbage would rank.

  18. Let’s see those playoff predictions: here’s mine
    1. Choklahoma
    2. Clemson
    3. Auburn
    4. Bama

    • Clemson has to win out. Bama never played Georgia, so how do you rate #3 over #1 or #2 depending on next week. Kind of premature right now.

      • Your right, Auburn has its top 3 RBs hurt, so switch Georgia for Auburn. The order don’t matter.

          • They won’t, Buckeyes will beat them and the big10 will be left out. Sooners beat TCU to get in, Clemson beats the U to get in. Winner of the second CG gets in, and bama slides in.

  19. USC could come out of the next two weekends looking pretty darn good. Only Wisconsin stands undefeated and they could well go down next week. Forget Kelly for now. Let’s enjoy the rest of this season and take care of that little fat f**k next year.

  20. If there is a god, please let USC win the PAC 12 Championship, make the playoff so that Clay Helton gets exposed against a true quality opponent not from the PAC 12’s soft sister conference Big 10.

        • I’m not sure if you’re a UCLA troll or not; but I agree with just about everything you post.

        • Oh yeah, duh , oh yeah, here’s my question stupid. What’s USC’s record s the sec the last 15 yrs. You have nothing in your pants little boy. Like the rest of your kind you can’t figure it out. We just win when it counts, doesn’t matter how we look going in

          • Keep on Hillbilly.. drinking moonshine all day doesn’t do you any good.. you still stupid..he beat Penn St last yr

  21. Wolf has a massive man crush on Chip……he can’t get the pimple to go down……beefcakes feels betrayed

  22. I don’t think any SEC team would leave Pullman on a frigid, icy night thinking it’s an easier place to play than Athens. Be real, Wolf. An overflow crowd of 36k in a small venue like Martin can be as loud as one thats three times the size.

While we’re at it, tell us all how “terrifying” it is to play at, say, Kentucky, Vandy or Miss State. A big crowd at the Rose Bowl, Coliseum, Husky, Sun Devil, Eccles-Rice, or Autzen matches any in the SEC.

      • Sounds like Tennessee is talking to Greg Shiano, maybe Dan Mullen and Mike Leach seems to come up a lot. Leach may leave the pac12 for the sec, interesting.

  23. Gabby and Pudly76 are really going at it to see who can ride Helton’s crotch the best…Helton says it’s too close to call. The winner gets to rub down Helton every day in the offseason.

CROTCH KICK ON THE BOTH OF ‘EM

    LMFAO!

    • Every time you’re asked a question about stats or numbers you run like the pos you are.

Ahh bammy lost.. pot rosita…que pasa

  24. Helton would have coached this years Alabama team to a 1-11 record. His lone win would have been against Mercer.

  25. Something off topic, I don’t know how many vets are on here but I hope they all know they can now shop at the exchange online. I got signed up and they have some GREAT buys. Just want everyone to know, it is a brand new benefit they came out with this month.

  26. Pac12 is filled with so called parity aka mediocrity…and a few that decide to excel thanks to their coaches… practices and serious effort to compete. It would appear Ariz teams are going to move up, a lot of young good players will be taking the field next year…maybe the south Div will win one title sometime.

  27. Why don’t you ask James Franklin about USC? SC has tons of talent, and that’s enough to scare anybody.

  28. It will be interesting if TCU beats Oklahoma and Ohio State beats Wisconsin. Would the committee screw TCU in favor of Ohio State again like in 2014? Would the Committee use the “Conference Title’s Matter” and “It was early in the Season, Ohio State is a much Different Team Now” arguments to screw Oklahoma in favor of Ohio State despite the Head to Head.? In either scenario, a 2 Loss Pac 12 Champion USC will get ignored. The Big 10 has lost 69-0 in the last two playoffs. And someway they will find their way in again.

  29. Yes, the PAC 12 is a easier conference for Chip Kelly, and he could pretty much dominate it, especially if USC keeps hiring mediocre coaches. Kelly could probably take UCLA to a higher level then he did Oregon, because he has immediate access, to more talent .
