David Shaw On Pac-12 Title Game

Stanford head coach David Shaw celebrates after a touchdown by wide receiver Michael Rector during the second half of an NCAA college football game against Southern California, Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, in Stanford, Calif. (AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez)Stanford coach David Shaw just spoke about playing USC on a short week in the Pac-12 title game and the Trojans coming off a bye:

“The bye has been great for USC. If anyone in the country deserved it, it’s them.
“This short week is not terrible to us. We would love to have seven days. You should have seven days from your last regular season game. (But) we’ve backed off a lot the last four weeks of the schedule anyways.”

  1. Would it not be fun to have a wager that goes like this: The winner of the game coaches USC next year and may keep 2 players who are eligible for the draft?

  2. And we always believe the drivel that comes out of the coaches prior to the game. Don’t want to give anyone anything for the bulletin board.

        • Gray Stool was a big talker then. But USC shut up the big mouth until Show Cause Chip caused him to drop his drawers. Too funny.

        • I did. And everyone knows that, ironically, my prediction was a lot more accurate than all of the predictions from most commenters here that had usc blowing out, destroying, and shutting out UCLA. If you’re honest, UCLA outplayed Usc and looked weak again. I somewhat want Helton to beat Stanford just to 100% ensure that he’ll be there for as long as possible…but you’ll keep him regardless.

          • ucla has lost to USC so much since 1998 (USC 15-ucla 4), the wimpy Trolls like Gray Stool don’t even remember what a real win feels like anymore. It’s called bruin success amnesia, aka little gutty fever. They say it’s incurable. Now I believe it.

        • We sucked this season and last — No bones about it. Yet a bowl game will be good for the coaches, Rosen, and the rest of the team before Chip takes full control of the program.
          Bring the bowl on!

      • You know his assistant from Oregon is available maybe he’ll come on staff too, he’s free since being fired for not winning with that offense.

      • Very astute observation on “momentum”. I mean, in the last 5 weeks, USC is 4-0 and barely been challenged. In that same timespan, Stanford needed a miracle to comeback and beat Oregon St 15-14, they got beat by Washington St, they beat Washington, then looked awful against CAL and won 17-14, and then they beat Notre Dame.

Looks like you have a pretty firm grasp of what momentum is.

    • Shaw is just laying on the weeds. Problem for him is Darnold, pure and simple. Sam’s our hole card and if he has a really good game, we’ll be taking STAN down for the second time this season. If Sam’s off again, I think USC will be in for a long plane ride back. How that for innovative thought? Seems pretty simple, no?

      • Play solid defense, run the ball with purpose, and the main two things, avoid stupid penalties and limit turnovers…….easier said than done!

      • Sam had two ints the first time and we gave up a long run to love. I would feel a lot better if I could say neither will happen again.
That love is injured makes me feel a little better, especially on a short week. And I don’t feel bad at all about stanfurd having a short week, because we went on the road twice for ours, they are essentially at home for their short week.

        • Love plays hurt better than any player I’ve ever seen. I don’t think we’ll stop him, but I really believe Darnold’s gonna have another Rose Bowl-like game. He and his WRs are in tune now and Daniel Ima is back.

We’re favored to make it a Fiesta-bound 11-2, more victories with this sloppy, strange team than ucla has ever head in its entire history. Amazing, huh. This USC team we all complain about so much can do with just one more win what the little gutties have NEVER been able to accomplish, even in their best year ever!

          • You’re right Jack, Love’s the real deal. I’m hoping that that little hitch in his get along will be enough to hold him down on the farm, so to speak.
Everyone speaks of unsatisfying and such, understandably. But win and we’re 11-2 and not many anywhere let alone westwierd can brag that, in a down year.
Funny the way it goes..but we do need this win, and I don’t care how we look. Hahaha!

          • One difference this game I hope will be the wr’s you mentioned earlier today. Wereymuch bigger with both Vaughns and Pittman now than we were then. Where I’m the most worried is the dline where we don’t know about Green or Gustin. I’m hopeful this is the year we restart the dynasty as conference champions.

          • I don’t think Gustin is in. It’s a shame what happened to him this year. Even if he is, he could go out any play. Horribly mishandled.

          • I’m dying to hear that story, how they reached the decision to play him. Awful, and to compare it to a finger was just craziness.

          • Some people are mad at me over on the ruin board because I called rosen a spoiled brat for coming out with seniors on senior day!!! Told them that it goes to the culture of their team. With all the great players we’ve had come out early, we didn’t honor them as seniors. And rosen was far from great.

          • According to Dan Weber —Porter is definitely out for the CG. The best we can hope for is getting him back for the bowl game —and even that isn’t a certainty.
            #Bummer

          • I was thinking the same thought, Jack. Maybe this turns out to be a blessing for next year. Porter is one of the most dangerous rushers we’ve had in a while.

      • As you stated before and I agreed with you, they should have put Costello in much sooner than they did–that spells trouble for troy—any score prediction JB for Friday nite? Forget about Sam having a good game or not, just the score.

  3. Translation: Whoever had to play SC in this game got scr***d by the Pac 12, whoever heard of a Championship Game played by one team with 2 weeks and another with 6 days, we’ll just make the best of it, use it as motivation.

  4. In other words, the PAC 12 screwed itself because we didn’t get a bye, and we have to play in 6 days. Thank God the trip is only 25 miles away or it would be a road game.
This game should be played on a Saturday. It is not fair to the teams that they have a turn around in 6 days while the other conferences are playing in 7 days. The PAC 12 needs to demand that they are on Saturday. Go against the sEc. Give them some competition.

    • TV my friend—the pac-12 is bringing up the rear! I’m surprised that the start time is not 7:45 as it has been most of the year! The AD’s and presidents just bend over for the money at the expense of season ticket holders!

  5. Home game for Stanford. Tree by 3.

Championship game should alternate between NorCal and SoCal sites.
