Tee Martin Does Not Make Final Cut For Broyles Award

USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin was not one of the five finalists for the Broyles Award, given to the nation’s top assistant coach. As I’ve said, this has been a frustrating year for Martin: He essentially gets 100 percent of the blame for the playcalling but does not call 100 percent of the plays.

Who made the cut is after the jump:

Auburn – Kevin Steele, Defensive Coordinator
Clemson – Tony Elliot, Co–Offensive Coordinator, Running Backs
Oklahoma – Bill Bedenbaugh, Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line
UCF – Troy Walters, Offensive Coordinator
Wisconsin – Jim Leonhard, Defensive Coordinator

  1. Memo to Gomer…

See Troy Walters ? That’s the kinda guy you need on your staff. Smart ( went to Stanford, his IQ has to be 130 points higher than Tee11 and Fredo combined ), can coach, recruit, played in the NFL, get the idea ?

  2. The truth is no one in this coaching staff deserves a trophy this season. The only standouts from the team are Darnold and RoJo right now. But I will elevate Helton’s coaching grade higher if he wins out the next two games.

  3. Word on the street is that Tenn is going to hire Tee as head coach. USC loses out on it’s best recruiter and tyson helton gets exposed next year…

This is all just an assumption…

  4. Quick Thought: the hiring of Chip Kelly has the trOXans all messed up in the head!!!! after throwing their coaching staff under the bus all year long, for us to grab up their dream coach with little effort has trOXans badly rattled!!

    • Maybe if all goes well, you might make two bowls in a row. Btw, kelly said he’s about championships, how would he know??

      • Kelly led Oregon to 4 consecutive state championships. I guarantee you right now, and you write this down, Brian Kelly will NEVER lose to Oregon St. That’s a big deal at UCLA. When you win 4 games a season any win is a big deal.

    • I know Bruins perpetually look ahead to next season, usually by about week 5, but Trojans aren’t thinking about CCK, they’re not thinking about the 3 game winning streak vs. the Bruins, they’ve got a laser focus on Friday night, when SC wipes the field and their own butts with the Stanford Tree Trash, again, and raise the coveted Pac-12 trophy high for all to see and become the first Pac-12 South champion to win the conference. We are all still thinking about the UCLA being the first Pac-12 south champions, after that 50-0 beat down by Lane Kiffin, but this achievement will even surpass that of the 2012 Bruins.

      • Actually Sandy, it was USC who won the first South title, but had to forfeit because of sanctions. So once again, ugly backs into a title.

    • Oh chuckie you are just killin it man. The excitement of the hire will last for a week, then, as usual, we all forget about ucla, back to normal

  5. ….that is a very very very strong list…so at the end of 2018 when USC goes looking again why not just look at the current Broyles list…why pay a search committee tons of money when you have a list like this…sometimes life really is that simple

  6. It’s not even clear as to who the real offensive coordinator is, so why would Tee Martin make the cut ? USC has used figure head OC’s for years, including Clay Helton himself

  7. Can anyone tell me which coach is calling run plays on 3rd and 12. Because that’s the guy I want fired. I’ve been blaming Tee for the bad play calls, didn’t know it might not be his fault.

    • Could be Fredo, could be Gomer, could be Tee11, they call whatever the Magic 8 ball says to call

    • the WET UNDERPANTS WHINE: He wants a bozo u coach on the 10 – 2 team fired, because he doesn’t know who’s calling run plays on third and 12.

Can you imagine WET UNDERPANTS reaction if a bozo coach called a pass on third and 12 and the Piglet’s pass was intercepted.

      The Piglet 17…….Stanford 28.

  8. Wolf, being on the “Inside”, could you find out who calls what, when, and where on the offense? Nothing makes sense about who calls what.

  9. Once again reading the comments before commenting proves interesting. I am not sure which is more fun watching USC fans trash our coaching staff or watching the same fans engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent(aka Ucla fans).
It is too bad Tee Martin didn’t garner more respect. If he had maybe it would have gathered more interest from other teams. As I recall Tee Martin is the brunt of scorn for almost all fans of USC football. His lack of innovation and adjustment has made his offense extremely predictable this season. The only loss for USC if Martin leaves is recruiting not offensive genius. Tennessee can have him.

    • I really don’t trust anything that Helton says about USC football because any coach would say the same if he followed the tried-and-true script of say nothing except weak ar*se crap that neither offends for informs, ever.

In fact, Tee will definitely need to take a class himself on public speaking if he expects to ever coach at a big-time school. He’s barely understandable at times and relates better to recruits if he’s trying to inform. I still can’t believe TENN would hire him as a HC. But they’re in such a world of hurt, anything is possible.

It Helton ever needs a job, I’m sure Tee will hire him, maybe to call plays on 3rd and 14 in the 4th Q.
