USC vs. Ohio State In Cotton Bowl

Now this is the best bowl game outside of the CFP games. USC will play Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 29 at AT&T Stadium.

This is the game I wanted to see. I’m tired of seeing USC play average teams. This is a real game. If Clay Helton wins, more power to him.

    • Right? how about “good job coach. I actually have a team to cover that has nothing to do with sanctions, or drinking, or foolishness.” Clay has righted the ship and is getting almost no credit for it. The honest truth is USC had a black cloud hanging over it, turmoil everywhere. No coach wanted to get in the middle of the mess. We promoted from within, and got a really good man who has now built some vision and identity. I couldn’t be more on his bandwagon, he is an adult who is winning a lot of games. I hope he takes The next step, wins this game, and we get really rolling again. Fight on!

      • Nice to read on here how much support Clay Helton has as HC of USC. I know others agree and it is a minority that want him gone. Such little patience these days. John McKay would have been run out of town. Helton is the HC and as long has he recruits well, remains competitive, and is somewhere in the hunt for the NC he will remain.

  1. Great opportunity for Helton to show is skill set – both 2 loss teams and both storied programs in Dallas-TX. Glad it’s not out in Phoenix at the Fiesta Bowl. Looking forward to a radical change of venue that is usually our lot.

    This will be the most watched bowl game outside of the final one on the 8th of January.

    • Except it’s played on that fake turf. And indoors. Other than that it’s exactly the same.

    • Joka, joka, joka, joka, bozo u get flipped to the Cotton Candy, +30 point losers Bowl.

      Ohio St. 38 – bozo u 24.

      • You predicted Hillary would win on November 8th 2016. You know what they used to do to do to false prophets?

        • Troy, have Bruin Rob give you the answer to this question. Which event has triggered you the most in the last 365 days giving you your most epic meltdown
          1. Godzillary’s loss in the election.
          2. USC going to the Rose Bowl, even though Colorado won the Pac 12 South.
          3. USC scoring 17 unanswered points to beat Penn State to win the Rose Bowl.
          4. USC winning the Pac 12 conference and playing Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl.

        • Oh no Rah- Rah’s, 22 wants to initiate an Inside bozo Evangelical Bible study group according to illogical Donnie the Moron tweets.

          • But you self righteous abortion loving Moloch worshipping hypocrites are all claiming today that tax cuts are “immoral” and “un-Christian”.

          • You probably don’t make enough money as a Fox F**K News stooge to feel the pain of the Moron’s Tax Reform Package.

            The US can’t tax a plug of chewing tobacco.

          • Boo Hoo! Poor Owns feels the pain of not being able to write off his California state taxes. Poor trust fund baby!

          • Democrat Assemblyman Matt Dababneh is leading your Dumbocrat Bible Studies. He loves The Song Of Solomon for some reason.

    • We got our Holiday Wish! !
      Porter should play.

      Rojo home in Tx,he and Sam find end zone big time.

    • Oh sure, a Dec. 29th bowl game, marquee?. It’s seems the bozos were downgraded from the Fiesta to the Cotton Candy Bowl.

      It should be called the Cotton Candy, 30 point +, Losers Bowl.

      Ohio St 38 – the bozos 24

      • as usual JustBlows, you hang around here like the little gnat you are, where you are universally despised, where your (lack of) intelligence is exposed every time you post, where your jealousy of the Trojans is embarrassing, and where you (mistakenly) think anywhere here gives a f —–uck what you say. you’re a powder blue tool and I hope you enjoy watching your little gutties get punked again in whatever “bowl game” you go to.

        • Bruin Rob is just upset that USC will make more in revenue for the Cotton Bowl than ucla has made in bowl revenue the last decade.

        • But you here you are poi boy, f*rting loudly like a impot*nt, ripple and puke wino about what I post. Thank you for free plug.

          #Are you mad poi boy?

  2. “If Clay Helton wins, more power to him.”

    Try showing him some respect, instead of the typical condescending demeanor

    (just give one good punch)

  3. Why wasn’t this played in the Fiesta Bowl? To me the Cotton Bowl is a step below the Rose or even the Fiesta. They should be played on Jan 1. This reminds me of the Friday night pac 12 league game, bush league. Two conference champs playing on a Friday night. Sucks

    • Because no one respects USC, the Trojans football program is being run by and overseen by wimps.

    • I don’t know how old you are ‘but’ when my crew was growing up there were four major bowls on News Years Day – Cotton, Sugar, Rose and Orange. The Fiesta came into being back in 1971 and slowly grew in stature but it’s real growth came with the slow demise of the Cotton Bowl due to the constant scandals that seem to hit annually the old Southwest Conference football programs (1980’s)

      The Cotton Bowl was always televised by CBS and – out here – started around 8:00 am – first bowl out the gate.

      It has been resurrected to its past glory – real happy we’re not going to dull, dusty, dirty Phoenix.

      • Yes, u are correct about the for games. But to me my perception of the Cotton Bowl is/was a second tier game.

        • Cotton always seemed like a biggee to me. Am very glad we are going to the Cotton instead of Fiesta. What a fantastic match-up for USC.

          We’ve beaten the Buckeyes 7 straight times but Helton needs a win against a coach like Meyer to gain street cred. Now, he’s got his shot. Perfect match-up! This is so fantastic for this USC team. We won the lottery today because we never had any shot at the PO.

          • Shaw x2, B Kelly, Petersen, mora, Franklin. Add urban meyer and do you think he gets respect here? I don’t.

          • Some people will never buy into Helton. That’s just plainly obvious by reading this blog.

            But if Helton beats Meyer, I don’t see how he wouldn’t be immediately elevated as a coach. Meyer’s three NCs speak for themselves. If Helton beats him, Helton has officially arrived, at least among any open-minded humans.

          • The is a necessary step in the evolution of this coach. Not winning isn’t his Waterloo, but winning could be his coming out party and that of this team. I’m not sure about the qb and how he compares to K Tate, can’t be any more dynamic as a runner and his passing is best described a streaky, but inconsistent might be more accurate.
            As always though this game will be won up front, if Sam can get the ball off, I think we’re good.

          • If he beats Urban Meyer he gets respect, if the team implodes like it did at ND then he is on the hot seat next year if Darnold goes to the NFL. If Darnold stays Helton will win the Pac 12 again and make the playoff.

          • Did your buddy Swann not clue you in about Helton and his staff? All you spoke of was a new staff the Swann would make CH hire—you are the all time flip flopper!

          • As far as the match up is concerned, it is nice and to beat Myers will help Helton

          • Mr. flip flop at its best! He has posted over and over about the Trojans going to the fiesta bowl–now he is talking up the cotton bowl??

        • Only because it started early – the most bizarre was and is that half-time circus in Miami at the Orange Bowl. Even allowing us here on the west coast a 3 hour cushion I was always amazed anyone stayed up to watch that mess and still am.

      • Wasn’t Lindsey Scott the announcer for CBS at all of those old Cotton Bowls? He of the painfully loud sport coats?

        • I think you meant Lindsey Nelson – Nelson did almost all the Notre Dame radio feeds. His was the voice you heard at the famous 1967 game from So. Bend when USC crushed the Irish “….oh no no look at him run (referring to Simpson). I can’t believe this!” He was the old school type that was actually a lot of fun to listen to – no pretense of being ‘neutral’ – all out there

    • Pasadena Trojan. This Cotton Bowl game on a Friday night for the Trojans and OSU really does SUCK. Who in the world is responsible for this STUPIDITY ??? The teams should be playing in the Fiesta Bowl, preferably on Jan 1, not Dec 30. I agree 100%.

      • Where is the commissioner on this? He should be fighting for better bowl games for all of the PAC 12. That is a waste of $4 million. As long as he schedules his tennis matches he is happy. He is nothing but another Scooter, a pencil neck geek.

        • Pac 12 commissioner is the very definition of a jackalope and until the conference gets rid of him, we might as well be the Ivy League when it comes to post season football. He must exit the scene. I can’t imagine him doing any lobbying to get better games for SC and the rest of the conference that deserve decent post season games….

          • Funny, but Hillary’s tour is SRO, as opposed to the Moron’s “Making Amerika pathetic” tour is booking Bowling Alleys.

            #theMoronjustgotaMickeyFlynn

          • Hillary’s Tour is SRO with lunatics like yourself who can’t accept reality and bray helplessly at the sky.

          • Accept reality, you’ve got to be kidding. We’ve got a POTUS that can’t tie a tie correctly or lie coherently.

          • Ten Little Indians err Leftists

            Ten little leftists all went out to dine;
            Harvey was outed and then there were nine.

            Nine little progressives put a show on very late;
            Charlie left his trousers off and then there were eight.

            Eight little Hollywood libs were partying with Kevin;
            But Spacey got too personal and then there were seven.

            Seven little liberals sharing their pix;
            NPR considered that, and then there were six.

            Six little leftists the media did thrive;
            Louis CK abused Jill and then there were five.

            Five little lefties who always shut the door,
            Matt Lauer locked a girl inside and then there were four.

            Four little liberals viewed Garrison with glee;
            But women told him Wobegone and then there were three.

            Three little leftist pols molesting as a crew;
            Conyers hugged some girls too long and then there were two.

            Two little leftists grabbing girls for fun;
            Al Franken got his picture took and then there was one.

            One little leftist left all alone;
            She claimed to be an Indian and then they were done.

          • Yeah, hard not to follow every day, and poor Hillary can’t even get sexually assaulted or even harassed by her own husband. HAHAHA…
            Would you like that cankle smoked or grilled?

          • I just named you 10. You are as credible as All Barack Channels’ 5 time liar Brian Ross.

          • Hey Owns, call your hero the illegal alien Congressman Ruben Kihuen, he needs you to hold the interns down while he molests them.

          • Wait a minute, he has Roy, “what’s your name child’ Moore to help.

            22’s new book: “The warhead chronicles.”

          • Admit it 22, you’re jealous, because you couldn’t get a blind platypus into giving you one.

          • Admit it Owns, you libs like Garrison Keillor just pose as feminists to get in the feminazi’s pants.

          • Speaking of Ho*ny, what about your pal the Ho*ny Hillary Intern/FBI agent Peter Strzok?

            “House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes has issued an angry demand to the FBI and Department of Justice to explain why they kept the committee in the dark over the reason Special Counsel Robert Mueller kicked a key supervising FBI agent off the Trump-Russia investigation.

            Stories in both the Washington Post and New York Times on Saturday reported that Peter Strzok, who played a key role in the original FBI investigation into the Trump-Russia matter, and then a key role in Mueller’s investigation, and who earlier had played an equally critical role in the FBI’s Hillary Clinton email investigation, was reassigned out of the Mueller office because of anti-Trump texts he exchanged with a top FBI lawyer, Lisa Page, with whom Strzok was having an extramarital affair.

            Strzok was transferred to the FBI’s human resources office — an obvious demotion — in July.

            The Post reported that Strzok and Page exchanged text messages that “expressed anti-Trump sentiments and other comments that appeared to favor Clinton.”

            Word of the messages and the affair were news to Nunes, even though the committee had issued a subpoena that covered information about Strzok’s demotion more than three months ago.”

            Nothing like cheating on your spouse, whispering sweet nothings and texting hot Clinton love!

          • Do you get the growing feeling that Owns types with his nose cuz his hands and arms are restrained by a white jacket….?

          • If only he’d share photos of himself in the act of posting……
            #Ah!ThePoorGuy!LookAtWhatHe’sGoingThru!

          • I’m waiting for the very upset, publicly unhappy Big 10 Commissioner, Jim Delany, to announce that Ohio State will “Resist” the Rose Bowl.

          • Another Trojan fan who is delusional. Hey idiot this is not a political board to open your mouth. Do you live in California, and even an alum of USC? Inquiring minds want to know.

      • I’ve had time to think about this —-and you’re right. We should be in the Fiesta. You can thank the fricking Playoff Committee (which hates us).

    • Initially, I was disappointed when the matchup wasn’t in the Fiesta. I think the commttee wanted a more neutral site. Since they have gone to a four team playoff, I think New Year’s Bowls have lost a little luster. If no one else is playing on the 29th, EVERYONE will be watching. They could play this game at a High school on a weekday and it would still be epic. OSU v. USC best matchup in years.

    • After further reflection —-you’re 100% right, PT! This game should have been played in the Fiesta Bowl. The playoff committee—which sets up the matches and the venues— screwed us out of a closer to home stadium and a more prestigious January game.
      #ThePlayoffCommitteeIsFricked

    • Pasadena Trojan I was looking forward to playing in the Fiesta Bowl, but I thought it was worth pointing out that the Cotton Bowl brought back as a top tier bowl “officially” a couple of seasons back.

    • And bama played a division 2 team before auburn. So their”bye” was very productive. Besides, just like ugly, bama sat home over the weekend. Saban was calling everyone to get him in

      • And how many calls did Lynn Swann make on behalf of the Trojans and their 11-2 PAC 12 Conference Championship Title record, arguing why the Trojans were deserving of being in a playoff game?

        I can guarantee you he made none…zero calls!

  4. USC wins this game and NOBODY can say we’re not ALL THE WAY BACK. Huge game for us. Expect to see USC at it’s best.

        • I wouldn’t be that fast with the award extension. He’s had two great years and he’s also had great athletes to work with. Just wish he’d find stronger personalities on his coaching staff and that maybe an indication of his need to not feel over whelmed by someone with that demeanor – the team needs a strong ‘bad cop’ to cut down the penalties and antics.

          • Let me educate you on the none TV Monday morning QB aspect of CFB. An extension signifies a degree of permanence and settling of the program which in turn allows the coach to not only recruit coaches, but players. Helton winning the RB and CB back to back while beating almost every big name coach not named Saban is well worth an extension and a raise. Anything less tells the assistant ls you want that SC still doesn’t get it.

          • ‘Let me educate you’? Well aren’t you the restrained soul.

            I like to see some changes in assistants – period

          • Coaches with extensions are replaced all the time, but if you want top flight assistants, a coach who’s extended, finds it easier to find quality assistants. Don’t you think?

        • Whoa, slow down there. We’re still hoping the 49ers poach this dude since we can’t fire a guy that is this successful.

      • Porter will be huge in this game —-and I bet this is what we’ve been saving him for!

      • SCs D line played great against Stanford too. With Porter back, Rasheem Green plays huge for us against OSU

      • Tate is superior as a passer and as a runner. But Tate doesn’t have what Barrett has around him. Ohio State with Tate would really be scary.

        • As long as USC gives Barrett the respect that they did to Tate then the rest is history. The defense is up to the task, so are all the skill positions on offense. All boils down to is the O line up to it. If O line decides to play like champions put the money on USC.

  5. No respect for the PAC 12 or Big 10, yet the w#ores of ESPN begged the committee to let bama in which has no reason to be there play. What a farce, to have two teams from the same league in. Georgia deserves it but bama should be playing Ohio st and have them go west of the Mississippi for once this century

    • I expect the NCAA will go to a 6 or 8 team format within the next 2-3 years. Especially when 2 conference champions are left out.

      • So it would be great, one more week of football, and most everyone would feel included. This year it really sucked.

        • All the major conference winner should automatically make the playoff. It’s only fair.

          • 5 Conference Champs plus 3 wild cards is the best way. I believe that Alabama is one of the 4 best teams and a 5 plus 3 would solve both problems.

          • Disagree 88. They did not win their division or league. They played a Division 2 team. They did not have to earn it because they did not play on Saturday. They should be playing a non playoff game.

          • I guess it will remain a disagreement. I’ve watched them and I don’t think anything has changed. Clemson and Alabama are the two best teams, IMO. Alabama even opened as a slight favorite over Clemson. Personally, I’d like to see Clemson or Georgia take it all, but to my eyes, Alabama is better than OSU and it isn’t close.

  6. “More power to him”! That’s like the wettest kiss Scottie has ever given to Clay! Motivation enough for SC to take care of biz? I don’t think Clay would say so. But it’s a winnable game. Fired up for it. SC is the shiny object that ESPN likes to trot out for it’s NON-playoff games. Highest rated game last year in the Rose, and it’ll be the highest rated game this year in the Cotton. Now Pac-12, don’t screw the conference in future years with a road game 6 days after another road game against a team (Wazzu) that is playing its 5th home game in a row. It cost the Conference a Playoff spot this year. And for what? A few extra TV dollars? Screw that.

  7. Ohio State hasn’t won a game vs USC since 1974, if anyone can bring that winning streak to an end it’s Clay Helton.

    LOL!

    • What’s there to expose? SC didn’t even bother to have a viewing party this morning for the CFP announcement because they knew they weren’t being considered, and also SC people are all sleeping in still drunk from the night before.

  8. Urban vs. Clay. We will get a chance to see how Clay matches up.this will be. Good one. FTFO!

  9. My question then is this, UCF is undefeated and won their league. Why weren’t they placed in this joke.

  10. SW why do you care? You’ll say If we win it will only be because of Sam who we won’t have next year.

  11. The Big 10 Commissioner is really dumping on the Cotton Bowl Game —-he’s totally disappointed and angry. Hope his lousy attitude trickles down to the Ohio State players.

  12. SW, you have a USC platform on issues pertaining to the community of USC and it’s alumni. “If Clay wins More Power To Him. Really, not I have be wrong or I would have to change my thought process. No, More Power To Him. What a shame sir.

  13. This is the measuring stick game I’ve been waiting for, we can finally see how USC measures up to a national power, as oppose to weak PAC 12 teams , and overrated has been’s

    • Dream, glory match-up. Nobody can deny USC’s quality if we beat OHIO ST. That’s a big if, but it’s great to go in as an underdog.

      Possible issue will be some activity with Tee Martin being pursued, from what I am hearing. Just a possibility, not a sure thing.

      • A blessing actually. Swann may need to step up and help find an OC if Helton is tied up getting ready for Bowl game.

        • Tee leaving before our bowl game would be very bad IMO. We’d be stuck with Tyson calling the whole game and lose our best recruiter before Dec 20 early signing. Yuk.

          • Sometimes you get what you asked for. So many here have called for his removal, dismissal, or just praying for his being hired away. Wonder if he’s deaf, and if he’s not, what kind of loyalty does he owe that fan base?

          • If what I heard pans out, Tee can’t turn it down. But things change every hour at this stage, so anything could happen and I don’t know of any time table, or urgency.

    • I f SC gets punched in the mouth like they did at nd, does SC have the backbone to recover and take it to the buckeyes? That is something we need to see.

      • Potato pobuckeye, its all the same to me. They are practically a different country. They put marijuana leaves on their helmet to make themselves look strong. They come here and eat until they’re sick and then play football the next day. I love them because for some reason they represent established football and hang tough with them every time.
        They believe they are superior because they are loved by the east coast writers. But even in Cotton if we catvh them feeling out of place, we have them where we want them. Lets hope the refs are color blind for a change.

  14. If the team is on offensively, OSU won’t stop’em. The Oline just needs to hold up enough to give Sam time.

    Don’t know if you can contain OSU’s offense all game.

    Could be better than last year’ s Rose Bowl.

  15. In other news, it looks like 5 star and #1 overall 2017 recruit Najee Harris RB and his teammate at Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa will be transfering to UCLA to play for Chip Kelly and the bRuins.

    WOW!

    • I think you accidentally, on purpose, posted this to the wrong blog. You meant to post it to Jon Gold’s blog. Nobody here knows what you’re talking about or cares.

  16. One needs to consider what the PAC-12 conference does to benefit USC. In football, USC provides the conference with attendance,reputation & MONEY. We are the biggest draw for all opponents. I honestly believe that USC is receiving the “ short end of the stick.” I would love to see USC make a deal with FOX like those south bend people have with NBC. We can go solo if necessary- SEC teams play the dregs ( Troy/ Mercer). If not I’d love to see us transfer to the Big 12. Games each year Oklahoma/ TCU with stipulations that benefits USC. In the playoff era, we need to change our course because we are only hurting ourselves for future glory and to remind everyone that USC is college football. We are in the biggest TV market & with our reputation we deserve better than playing on a Friday night. I’m disheartened that so-called experts cannot decipher the difference on scheduling Washington State (getting to Pullman) on short rest and getting blown out at home to Iowa State. Unfortunately- I’ve been unable to get past the one series that had us First& Goal at the WSU 3 yard line and we kicked a field goal. If not we had one loss and our next opponent is Clemson.

    • Sheeesh. Really? SC hasn’t “owned” the PAC12 in years. We’ve lost to almost every team in the conference at least once during this time. But you’d be more comfortable watching games against the likes of Kansas and Baylor?!

      Tell you what. When USC regains its swagger by winning multiple conference championships and playing in the CFP, get back to us.

      • I didn’t fully explain my definition of “Stipulation” for example those people from South Bend only play 6/7 ACC opponents. USC & Their Network partner could determine the quality of opponents. It’s amazing that Those people across town can get $280 million from Under Armour not have to split amongst other PAC 12 schools & not give to the state being a public institution and spend it anyway they feel. I could imagine a schedule that includes 1) Notre Dame 2) BYU 3) Oklahoma 4) TCU 5) Oklahoma State 6) Kansas State 7) Texas and consider the amount that PAC 12 could receive from a Network especially since their own network is in shambles to televise 8) Stanford 9) Washington 10)Oregon 11) ugly and the twelfth being a mega game that could bring in a National Power. Please what I’m pleading for is that USC dictates & flexes their own national brand. The PAC 12 hurts USC more than anything else. One final point- My direct TV carries the BIG 10 conference & SEC Network ( saw USC play Vanderbilt) & the Texas Longhorns Network but no PAC 12. Larry Scott is an overpaid useless commissioner.

  17. The college football playoff committee sucks, now they are just accommodating the midwest Ohio State Fans #getHadenbackonthecommittee

  18. ” If Clay Helton wins, more power to him”. Could it possibly be that Wolfie actually said something positive about CH? I think if SC wins then Wolfie should actually say “you did a real good job this year”. “More power to him” doesn’t make it. After all, If they win CH will be 21-2 in the last 23 games. That’s not bad.

  19. Scott: you said earlier you wanted Penn St or Auburn, not a mention of The Ohio St University. Wat up

  20. Ohio state has played in the last two Fiesta Bowl and the committee did not want them in there for another year. Well, then why didn’t they place them elsewhere and let USC play another team, like Auburn or Wisconsin ?

  21. Ohio State has played in the last two Fiesta Bowls. The committee did not want them in the same game this year. Why didn’t they just leave USC in the Fiesta and schedule Auburn or Wisconsin ? Both would have been great games.
