Who Is Less Disciplined?

I’ve talked a lot about USC football players taking a picture during the sideline at the Colorado game, snapping at coaches during games and getting unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

But Andy Enfield’s basketball team might be worse. Point guard Derryck Thornton was talking on Face Time outside the locker room at halftime of the Washington game, according to Yahoo. And now Chimezie Metu is punching a player in the groin on a 3-point shot. Plus, Metu tried to trip a player last season and faced little discipline. That’s a Clay Helton move too.

So who runs a looser ship? Helton or Enfield.

Don’t conflate the two teams, Scottie. The football team is a pretty disciplined bunch. Terrible O-Line and Sammy’s turnovers aside, it’s a tight ship. Your tear-’em-down brand only takes you so far. You ripped Carroll to shreds during a potential 3-peat. The rest of your community may not remember that.

    • steveg

Some of us do and see right through him. Is this the coaches or is it just the kids these days.

    • GOMER HELTON

Yeah, SC football reminds me of Navy football when it comes to discipline, yeah, I’m kidding

  • Pac12 fan

Appears both ships are run pretty loose. The. Football team is probably one of the most penalized in College football. Lot of them are jusr ridiculous.

  • Pac12 fan

USC ranked 117 out of 130 or the 13th most penalized in number of penalties per game

    • gotroy22

      The stats prove it.

      • steveg

        I get your sarcasm. lol

    • Brent4c

How many PAC 12 schools rank in the bottom half? It’s the officials not the players.

      • Pac12 fan

Well Washington and Arizona st are in the top 15 of least penalized teams. Petersen wont put up with lack of discipline .

        • Brent4c

Counted 6 85th or higher. Stanford possiblly the most disciplined team in the nation is in the 50’s. If you watched the USC bs Arizona game you know the PAC 12 officials refused to call holding on U of A. Their 3rd qrtr was fueled by blatant grabbing, holding and tackling of would be defenders.

          • Pac12 fan

Feel sorry for Clemson and Alabama tonight. They get a Pac12 officiating crew

          • Brent4c

I’m curious how they call the game tonight. If they are like a typical PAC 12 game there will be a lot of mysterious holdings and ticky tack unsportsmanlike penalties. Watch for late targeting calls as well.

          • Pasadena Trojan

I don’t. Let them feel the wrath that usc has to deal with. I hoe 4 eyes is the ref

          • SucKiffin

In bowls PAC refs usually swallow whistle much more

          • Pac12 fan

Cant wait to see how Saban and Swinney will react to calls tonight.

          • steveg

Saban will be pulling his hair out jumping up and down and screaming at the refs. Swinney will to.

        • Clay Russell

It would’ve been more credible if you left ASU out. Facts be damned, you can’t use the home of Vontaze Burfect as a model for discipline.

          • steveg

            Rotflmao.

          • Pac12 fan

            Burfect left yrs ago.

          • Clay Russell

Yet he still reflects on his school.

          • Pac12 fan

Bit mnot this years stats. Todd Graham wasnt even around when he was there. Would you say the same thing about OJ Simpson reflecting on his school? Hope not

          • steveg

In some circles OJ does reflect on USC as does Bush. Burfect is infamous for the crap he did and still does reflect on ASU.

          • gotroy22

Juju administered justice on the field to Burflict.

          • steveg

Finally!! I had heard he put a great hit on him. I am sure Barkley sent him a thank you note.

          • Clay Russell

Actually, yes. OJ is forever connected to USC and the school is somewhat tainted by it. Reggie too.

  • steveg

So far this blog is the leader for looser ships. Wolf cannot find a positive post. He has not said one word about the defense in the CB. Wonder why. But then he has been quiet about Sams fumbles too.

    • gotroy22

MICH is down a TD with 2 minutes left!

      • steveg

That game was putting me to sleep, I had to change. lol

        • gotroy22

South Carolina somehow had 9 wins this year.

          • steveg

The answer is in their schedule.

      • trojan_1972

MICH really does need their new QB…

        • steveg

LSU 14 Domers 6. Go Ed!!

        • SucKiffin

help in on the way … then look out

  • Lunderful

Your editorial board runs the looser ship.

    • trojan_1972

      Nice!

    • Independent_George

      Winner winner chicken dinner!

      • steveg

He could win the internet with that post

  • steveg

Hey Wolf, OPEN FORUM!!! What are you afraid of.

    • Sebastian Lane

He’s a coward. Email him. He’s angry bitter and negative. He’s not a happy person either….

  • GOMER HELTON

Swann needs to clean hose, Gomer, Gap tooth and the idiot baseball coach all need to go

  • gotroy22

SC defeats MICH! South Carolina that is.

  • gotroy22

Notre Dame scores and goes for 2 to tie it up!

    • steveg

this qb for FSU is money.

  • Arthur Jury

I am sure it is not going unnoticed that Coach Ed O and the LS tigers are tied with nueter dame 14-14 in the 4th quarter. What did USC give up to ND ? 49 points ???

Worst mistake drunk Pat did was hire his drinking buddy drunk sark over Ed O.

    • Clay Russell

LSU’s offensive and defensive lines matchup better with ND.

    • Jack B

Ed O really sh*it the bed against a 3-loss ND team. Nothing to crow about. He kicked a FG to go ahead late from the 1 foot line instead of going for a TD with a RB like Derrius Guice. Horrible call and as a result, ND stole it.

      • SucKiffin

In a bowl game … like Gomer running out the clock to not get beat by 30 plus

  • Old Trojans never die

To be honest I believe the behavior is endemic of the culture in this area. We don’t teach right and wrong at home we’ve kicked God outa school. These kids live in a “If it feels good, do it” world.
Don’t know how far this pendulum will swing before it gets better.
My point “Gomer” before you respond, is that it’s not just USC. Ucla has dads taking their kids outa school to cover criminal behavior. It’s happening all over.

    • Sebastian Lane

Fair point. Haters will hate and ignore anything positive. It’s called confirmation bias. I am tired of it. As much as fake news. I have read nothing positive about our defense. Why? Because people want to fry Clay. Brutal.

      • Jack B

The USC defense was awesome. Came to play.

Unfortunately, a team is only as strong as its weakest link. Watching the o-lines aggressively open huge holes for both GA and OU in the Rose Bowl just hammers home how bad the USC OL is. Striking difference in power, athleticism and coordinated effort.

        • Sebastian Lane

You are correct. But having a true freshman on the Oline is a killer. Only as strong as your weakest link, as you suggested. We need more depth and experience upfront.

          • Jack B

We also just aren’t that talented on the OL. Some of our front-liners will never be good no matter how much experience they have.

One freshman o-liner shouldn’t kill the team. IMO, the entire front was sad. Vorhees will be good soon. Not true with some of the others, just like at all positions.

          • Sebastian Lane

You sound like a smart rationale guy, so hear me out. Many don’t want to hear this but it’s a factor. In 2103 we could only take 13 kids because of sanctions. We took two Olinemen. Rodgers and Falah. Rodgers was a bust. Falah is a fifth year senior. In 2014, we took Viane, Mama, Toa and Brownie. Mama left and Toa is playing out of position at LT. No excuses, but it takes time to develop bigs…

          • Jack B

I hear you. And we also mistakenly recruited Price, who had to high-tail it back to Georgia. or somewhere. USC has really recruited OL talent poorly IMO.

An a good example of our plight is Falah. He’s a 5th yr guy who can barely hold his own and was still having problems snapping at the beginning of the season. Our blind long snapper is more accurate. With teams like OU and GA, who both have over 150 yds rushing at halftime, Falah would never see the field of play – unless as a courtesy.

We’ve got a long way to go in the OL. Our OLs look weak, slow and pushy to me. We need a new coach there, with a more aggressive bent, and we have to stop bringing in sloths like Banner who were always beatable off the edge by most anyone.

I understand we are a very divided Trojan nation. That’s just the way it is. I looked at the OHIO ST game a 2nd time and was shocked USC could field such slop for an o-line. I’m sure that’s why Brian Kelly, whom we beat bad the year before, was licking his chops heading into this year’s game.

If Helton doesn’t make some big adjustments, which I’m for giving him the opportunity to do, he’s gonna get an arse-whipping like he’s never dreamed of next year.

          • San Diego trojan

I agree, jack. With so many pro staffs getting blown up by head coaching firings, I would love it if we could get an o line; defensive back, and even a dynamic offensive coordinator. Move tee to quarterback, passing game coordinator, or QB coach. I would love him to stay, for his recruiting, in some capacity, but he is a short timer anyway. I want clay to do well, but he won’t if he doesn’t have the courage to make changes that are best for the long term health and success of the program, and not just working with guys he is comfortable with

          • Jack B

I remember thinking that when Pete Carroll made his son, Spaulding, the recruiting coord, it was a very bad sign. Sure enough, Pete limped out of the job with a 9-4 record and an Emerald Bowl win. Now he’s got a mediocre Seattle team with no running game and the worst OL in the League. It’s hard to keep things going.

I hope Helton is taking stock of how this year’s best college teams look compared to his. If he can’t make the tough calls, no one will be able to say he didn’t get a great shot, because he did. Now, we shall see what he’s really all about.

          • San Diego trojan

You are so right. Pete started thinking that his success was only due to his system and culture, and figured he could just plug any coach in and it would work, thus we had Brennan, rocky, and sark/Kiffin instead of norm chow, etc. Culture and system are paramount, but you can’t sustain success without good assistants who can coach good and motivate

          • gotroy22

Spaulding as an assistant coach, talk about nepotism.

          • Sebastian Lane

            Agree with all.

        • SucKiffin

The D did little but stop dive plays in the 2nd half

          • steveg

            ya 3 and outs.

          • SucKiffin

            Down 24 zip already
Never did stop qb run … until Urbie stopped did

          • Jack B

You’re the guy who thinks The Kiffer can’t coach. Good luck with that!

In just one season, The Kiffer’s already the Amos Alonzo Stagg of FAU football. He won 11 games – as many as the entire previous 4 seasons combined.

          • SucKiffin

Where and what is FAU ? … same guy that SC fired on a tarmac and Saban canned before a title game

          • Jack B

Doesn’t surprise me at all you wouldn’t even know what FAU is. You’re pretty stupid, huh?

          • You’re pretty stupid

Not as much as the person who can’t detect a rhetorical question.

          • Jack B

Oh, you mean Suciffin was just joking? Sure pal.

You’re too stupid, as usual, to understand the issue isn’t FAU, it’s Lane Kiffin, the most successful coach in Owls history and the rebound Coach of the Year.

Try and get the big picture next time Spanky.

          • You’re too stupid, as usual, to understand the issue […] Try and get the big picture

Says the person who doesn’t understand rhetorical questions.

            Thanks for proving my point.

    • San Diego trojan

Very true, but some coaches are holding players more accountable. It’s like the parent that is more interested in being their kids friend, than the being the role model, and disciplinarian that a kid needs

  • Brent4c

Fire Harbough…doesn’t know how to coach.

  • Bernie

Basketball. Got guys accepting cash, coaches taking bribes, players hitting below the belt, players texting during games, etc. All the signs of a crash and burn program. Only question should be who be who will be their coach next season.

  • steveg

    UCF up 34-20

  • 04Trojan

“During the sideline?” C’mon, Flow, it’s 2018, let’s clean it up this year.

  • Brent4c

Fire Gus Malzahn down 14 to UCF. I’m just talented as SW w my analysis.

  • gotroy22

Notre Dame miracle catch! 21-17 Irish!

    • steveg

UCF beats Auburn who was way over rated anyway.

      • Pudly76

Who was it that beat bama?

        • steveg

Ow!! Where you been. Happy new year bud.

          • Pudly76

Hiding out in a rock n roll band

Happy New Years to you too…

          • Pudly76

            I’m against all things sec

        • SucKiffin

and beat Georgia by 40 and lost in final seconds to Clemson

          • Pudly76

Beat Georgia by 23 in the qb’s 2nd game, and clemson lost to syracuse too?

          • SucKiffin

Only 23 … oh that’s right losing 24-7 is actually a win if you gain more yards and don’t lose by 30 or more

          • Pudly76

Why you putting words where there were none?

  • GT

SEC is doing almost as bad as the PAC12! 2-5 right now!

    • gotroy22

Nobody is as bad as the Pac 12 this year.

  • steveg

Kirby Smart: “I always judge a coach by two things – how hard do your players play for you and how well do you recruit?”
Just what USC needs to go by.

    • Jack B

I’d also add, how well do you evaluate prep talent, which I suppose goes under recruiting, but is always overlooked IMO.

    • SucKiffin

      Damn … he is SMART
wonder if Saban taught him that

  • Fred Sampson

That’s the difference between winners and losers, I can’t imagine Nick Saban, or Tom Izzo allowing any of that nonsense

    • steveg

Did you see UCF with the RPO shotgun beat down those big boys from Auburn?

      • Pasadena Trojan

They should have been in the playoff instead of bama

    • SucKiffin

Gomer is soft … as misplaced at SC as the 2 idiots before him

  • steveg

Anyone taking Georgia in the Rose Bowl?

  • rusoviet

Pac-12 was 1 – 8 in bowls….the SEC is currently 2 – 5 with GA and AL let to play.

  • Sebastian Lane

This is fool’s Gold. The system is stacked. When SC wins, it’s because of Sam. When they lose, it’s all Clay’s fault. See Baker Mayfield? That’s a senior QB. He protects the ball. Sam is more talented, but played like a sophomore. BE FAIR!!!

    • SucKiffin

Did u watch the Rose Bowl last year ?

  • Sebastian Lane

Fire Clancy and hire Mike Stoops!

    • steveg

What happens to the guys on D that have done a good job this year.

      • Pudly76

Used to be when sark and kif were here we’d say they were responsible for the defensive side of the ball too, even if they were offensive coaches. kif got fired after a defensive meltdown in the desert…but Helton only gets the short end of the stick no matter the conversations. When the defense sucks, he didn’t condition them, prep the game plan, whatever…when they do well, it’s fire clay and hire Clancy, phunni people around here.

        • SucKiffin

Kiffy Suck Gomer .., what’s the difference , they all are jokes

          • Pudly76

Don’t hold back, let it out..kif just got paid again and if bama loses tonight the spotlight will shine even brighter his way..

          • SucKiffin

Why ? Because he didn’t get fired this year

          • Pudly76

No because saban will not have won either sec or any other championship since he left…hahaha

          • gotroy22

Now we get the rematch, Georgia vs Bama.

    • SucKiffin

Or just fire Pendy … and Gomer

  • Sebastian Lane

Fair point. Let’s hope guys like Porter, Cam, Biggie and Tell return.

    • steveg

      You forgot Jones.

      • Sebastian Lane

        Isn’t he a true sophomore?

    • SucKiffin

Where the hell they going to go lol … sure r not NFL players

    • gotroy22

      You want Grabby back?

  • Pudly76

I heard Pittman broke his thumb/hand during the game and played on..

    • steveg

Pittman is one of the players that along with the D left everything out there on the field.

      • Pudly76

Pittman plays to the whistle every time I’ve seen him! Next level guy, always plays up when the lights get brighter.

        • SucKiffin

And sat on the bench until his dad complained … great coaching there

          • Pudly76

Why always tell half the story?

  • Dunc Wilson

Based on what you say, why wouldn’t it be Lynn Swann?
