Clay Helton spoke today at the AFCA coaches’ convention.

“The first thing I look at on an athlete’s transcript are his tardies and absences,” Helton said.

  1. Glad he’s looking at something because he sure didn’t watch any game film of OH St. over those 4 weeks.

      • Owns changed his name but still 100s of urinals to get clean by tomorrow. Get back to it chump.

    • When OSU stacked their defense on the line of scrimmage late in the game, USC continued using 5 offensive down lineman. No TE’s. Again, no TE’s. At times, an empty backfield except for the QB. Unbelievably Blind, Stupid, Far and Above the Mind of whoever was calling the plays. Incredible……..

      • Well ‘Tyson’ wasn’t around….Tee Martin’s tasks are specific to the actual play but not sure if that includes blocking assignments but hey with Clay in control the outcome was as all expected – we got made…not just once mind you but over-and-over-and over all night long…Clay… may the force shove you out of here!

    • Don’t be rational with these guys. They want knee jerk, scorched earth, fire everyone. Funny how a process and stability wins big more times than not.

      • I’m sure I can find an example to refute literallly anything. I already know you love SC and I respect that. I also know you have 0 football knowledge so it is what it is.

        • He’s got more football knowledge than you’ll ever have Brenty the brain dead rah rah

          • Give me a single example of that “football knowledge” buddy. You’ve offered nothing. Break something down for me. I can bring you a white board so you can draw up a play or defense. Crap I’ll let you draw up a fg protection.

      • LOL!…..Weis was one of Bill’s lieutenants that failed forward, like most of them. Who also overestimated his own football IQ, and had a overall HC coaching record well under .500. He’s probably coaching Pop Warner somewhere

    • In Ca they generally don’t, but I think we all know what was meant. It’s entirely possible SW didn’t actually quote Helton as well. This is very much what Chris P does as well at UW. Funny how we could match Helton w Peterson at UW season for season and it is arguable Helton has as good of not better results.

  2. Why do I have a feeling the groundwork is be laid to be used as a cudgel over Helton’s head?
Oh yeah because the statement is incomplete and Scott is still typing.

    • Works for me just as it did when: Tollner, Hackett, Smith, Sarkisian….well you get the drift huh?

      • All I’m saying comrade, is there is a shoe hanging here. After reading another journalist’s take on most of the coaches you have listed (The exception being Sark) I have to say history is very fickle. It was the opinion of Tom Kelly that Smith never understood the players. Hackett couldn’t hack it with a load of talented players. And Tollner couldn’t or wouldn’t play politics at work.
Now this doesn’t mean I think Helton is the man for the job, but in the absence of a real replacement he’ll do.

        • Ok well then re-read your post

‘….Smith never understood the players..’ meaning he never saw such talent before? Probably true coming from AZ and Tulane before that but what’s that mean? You see better talent as you ascend the tree as you do in any profession.

Smith sadly, was a head case. That statement he made stating he thought they should re-schedule, in even numbered years, the ucla and notre dame games was a definite cry for help i.e. given to a reporter for print.

You’re agreeing (I think) the consensus re. Hackett and as to Tollner he was way beyond his pay grade skill set wise and not denying he was opposed to ‘politics’ (whatever those were) he was, as Helton appears to be, save he had the penalties imposed by the NCAA thanks to ‘Jolly John’ booking for the NFL in 1982 as PC did in 2010.

Need a strong coach who understands what is expected and welcomes the weight and expects to win nationally – I see nothing here that come close to that.

        • schammer47 believes in his heart that Clay Helton is the Man. 20-3. Mighty, mighty, convincing!!!

  3. SW, I don’t believe Coach Helton would ever say that. I hesitate to call you “fake news”, SW. No I don’t. You must be a bad boy, SW.
