Jack should be thrilled by this news. LOL

    • Jack B

Grabby actually makes JJ look strong in coverage, by comparison. Hah!

      • Independent_George

Before he got hurt, he was scoring as our best DB.

BTW: If grabbing a WR is a mortal sin, the tOSU DBs from the Cotton Bowl are in a heap of trouble. But those were SEC officials, and they let you play. Biggie did grab, but the terrible Pac-12 officiating did him no favors.

        • Trojan5

We all know, only to well how bad the PAC 12 refs are. And the rest of the country saw them screw up a bowl game. I don’t remember the teams but one of the League Commissioners sent a letter to the PAC 12 ripping them for the crappy job they did.

        • Jack B

Sorry, but I didn’t need the refs to tell me that Grabby was always committing pass interference. It was always there in plain sight and instant replay never did Grabby any favors.

Grabby’s a horrible cover corner. Hopefully, they’ll play him at safety where his physical limitations can be disguised. This would especially help him if he ever wants to be drafted.

  • Independent_George

Safety, since Hawkins graduates this year.

  • Sas

    Good

  • Jack B

SW already told us all that the USC coaches told Grabby he’s gonna play S, if he came back. SW’s just backtracking and obviously isn’t sure what he already reported is correct.

If Grabby had left, he would have been humiliated by the draft. Good move by him. Kid needs a lot of work as a DB, whether at S or CB.

    • Pudly76

What are the odds that St Brown makes Biggie curl up in a fetal ball and cry the first week of summer?

      • steveg

LMAO. I can see it now.

  • Fred Sampson

I’m not sure why he even entertained the idea of going pro, because he wasn’t going to get drafted by any nfl teams.

    • Independent_George

I think he’d be drafted. Can’t coach up length, and he’s long for a DB.

      • RegalTrojan

Perhaps, he was born a dozen years too soon. He probably would’ve been a monster safety playing for Carroll’s teams.

      • timmay

Length doesn’t help when you’re slow. If it was just length every 6 ft kid could be a corner.

    • steveg

Perhaps he just got back his evaluations from the nfl.

  • USCDAN1986

Guys are comimg back to play for a NEW head coach and staff.. Makes sense!

    • Independent_George

Where did you hear/read the Del Rio rumor? The pay boards, where the imagination runs free, has no mention of this. I seriously doubt this is happening, you don’t demote an HC unless he was a interm at the end of finishing out a season.

It will be interesting to see if anyone picks this up and runs with it.

      • USCDAN1986

They will.. Trust me.. Intel at USC McKay Center..

        • RegalTrojan

Hmm…really? It’d be a real coup if this is really happening. I really doubt it, though.

          • USCDAN1986

            Ok

  • GOMER HELTON

Will he be a corner ?
    Will he be a safety?
Will he be converted to punter ?
Will he be coached by Bradford?
Will he be coached by Clancy?
Will he be coached at all ?

    It’s Gomerville, anything is possible

    • USCDAN1986

Or coached by NEW HC Jack Del Rio?..

      • 04Trojan

Bold. Helton is not the long-term answer. But he’s produced winning teams and maintained stability. Can you really fire a coach for that?

        • USCDAN1986

Bold and always keeping my ear out there. I asked more than 10 people connected to the program what was shared … They responded your intel is good and spot on. I asked if JDR was our new guy..the word is yes!

          • 04Trojan

No knock on you, but I’ll believe it when Flow posts it…kidding. But I will believe it when I see it.

          • USCDAN1986

I understand… Several said he was hired to over see the program, several said as HC..with Helton demoted to OC if he decides to stay on.. So we shall see. My intel and connects on campus are strong ..

          • 04Trojan

When was the last time a “winning” head coach took the demotion to a coordinator within their own program they were trying to start? Honest question.

          • USCDAN1986

Never.. But he may have $ 3.5 million reasons to stay.. His contract is not guaranteed past 18.. He knows he was in the right place at the right time to get the job.. With that said, its a good move either way.. JDR has the experience we need moving forward..

          • steveg

Helton is a humble guy and may go along with it. I wonder how JDR and Pendy would mix?

          • USCDAN1986

Both are good D men ..

          • Trojan96

His kid just started going to school at SC that would be another reason. I am asking my inside sources to confirm.

          • USCDAN1986

            Ok

          • GOMER HELTON

            Demoted? Fantasy land

          • USCDAN1986

            Ok fired!

          • Lunderful

Can you help me find USC co-ed Big Ta-Tas Kate?

          • USCDAN1986

            Nope!

          • Lunderful

Is JDR the new guy now, for 2018, or is he the plan for 2019?

          • USCDAN1986

            18

        • GOMER HELTON

Sure, SC has a good PR department, has Nikias taken much heat for the med school dean’s ?

        • steveg

Helton does not have an ego. He is such a humble man I think he would go with it and enjoy the opportunity to work under someone with genuine experience.

          • 04Trojan

I just don’t see it. I see it as a situation needing a clean cut and fresh start if Del Rio or another HC is brought in.

          • steveg

We have never had a HC like Helton before. We need to just wait it out and see if it is all true or not.

          • Jethro G Sabbath

I can think of very few examples of an actual, not interim, head coach or manager being demoted and staying on the staff. The dynamics are strange so it just doesn’t happen.

          • timmay

If he didn’t have an ego he would have pursued a much better staff rather than try to load up on friends and family.

        • timmay

I thought SC was about competing for championships, not being the best team every 3 or 4 years in the worst conference.

          • 04Trojan

USC is about winning championships. And they won a championship this season. Is it what most alumni and fans expected this year? No.

          • timmay

The PAC 12??? LMAO The PAC 12 is like winning poop, and we are doing it once every five years now. This is not the pre playoffs, pre BCS period, if a conference sucks like the PAC 12, and you are a crap team, you might as well have been have come second place in the MAC. Next thing I know you’ll be shooting for the PAC 12 South. Come on.

          • 04Trojan

Aren’t you late for your next South Park shoot?

          • steveg

Timmay, again look at the record. There is a heritage there, but USC does not compete for the title every year. Any title.

          • timmay

Don’t fool yourself. SC even in its bad times dominates this conference. There is truth to this conference being USC and the 11 Dwarfs. We were in the Rose Bowl (Conference Champs):

4 out of 10 years in the 60s.
6 out of 10 years in the 70s.
4 out of 10 in the bad ol’ 80s.
2 out of 10 in the 90s was our worse decade in modern history.
6 out of 10 in the 00s (technically Orange bc of the BCS).

It should be noted that we were under sanctions in the 60s, 80s twice and in the late 90s and early 2000s.

SC is currently in its worst decade of PAC 12 football in 70 years with a single title. At the same time the PAC 12 is in its worst if not its worst decade in history.

          • steveg

Every coach hires friends and family. SC competes for championships, but historically they do not compete for them annually, their record was great with McKay and Carroll. Not so great otherwise, wish every team was as good as 1972. Study their record, like a roller coaster sometimes. I think every school does that though.

          • timmay

That’s kinda true. Not about hiring- successful coaches have found that it’s important to hire the best talent, its almost universal curse of coaches to go crony, either from arrogance or fear.

But SC even in its bad times dominates this conference. There is truth to this conference being USC and the 11 Dwarfs. We were in the Rose Bowl:

4 out of 10 years in the 60s.

      • Jack B

What’s up with Tee? You still say he’s headed to OAK as WR coach?

        • RegalTrojan

That’s my guess if this next to impossible scenario indeed pans out. I don’t see it, though.

          • rusoviet

Really think this is going to happen? Any credible sources as to where this came from?

          • RegalTrojan

Not sure yet what to think of it. USCDAN insists that it’s pretty much a done deal. Only time will tell, I guess.

        • USCDAN1986

          Yes sir!

          • RegalTrojan

So in the scale of 1 to 10, how credible is this story?

          • USCDAN1986

            10

          • steveg

You know how you will be treated on here if this isn’t real. Based on that I am going with it until told there is nothing there.

          • USCDAN1986

He is hired.. Just waiting to hear whats the rest of the puzzle looks like.. Who else is coming.

          • Lunderful

By “puzzle” are you referring to assistants JDR has contacted to to join him?

          • USCDAN1986

            Yep

          • Chris

Nobody anywhere has this happening. You are it and yet there are some hopefuls on here that are falling hook, line, and sinker. Well done.

          • USCDAN1986

No hook, well connected at USC..

          • Chris

I have no connection and I think you are sincere? But i seriously doubt it, somebody somewhere would have reported something. No way recruits and players would know and keep it a secret. I’m in the not happening camp. But not mad, just not believing it. Fight on USC Dan!

          • USCDAN1986

From what I was told from many (10) people.. It was a done deal. Team, staff, recruits and pending recruits are all on board with the hire.. I am thinking after signing day all will come out..

          • Chris

Honestly not trying to pick fight. But I believe it even less. No way that the team, staff, and recruits know and it is not out in the media. No how, no way. I’ll apologize if you’re right. But I cannot believe any of it.

          • RegalTrojan

This is truly devastating news for you if this is true, steveg.

          • steveg

No it isn’t. I have been aware Helton would be leaving eventually, I just respect the man and what he has done in bringing stability to the program. I have never said he is a great coach, he is a humble man that took on a very difficult situation. Take the time to look back, I am the one that originally said USC is not the place for on the job training for a HC. I didn’t want him to begin with, but USC looks much better now than when he started, even you have to agree to that. Now we don’t have to read post after post how over his head he is and what a horrible job he has done. He created an good atmosphere for a new coach to step into. That is what I defended about him. So no, I am not at all devastated.

          • timmay

There’s some truth in that. I wish he had instilled competitiveness, that’s the only thing that I would have added for what is essentially a caretaker coach while SC settled down from some bad decisions from the Haden era.

          • RegalTrojan

Well? I haven’t read your single post not defending Helton, so it’s pretty difficult for me to believe you ever had a negative stance against him.

Like some others in this blog have said before, and I totally agree with that it was never Helton’s fault that he became the HC of our team. It was the particular situation at the time and Haden’s overly hasty decision that made it happen. And I do think he’s a great human being with integrity and sincerity, who happens to be a great father-figure to the kids as well.

Part of me still roots for him, and I always will be even after he moves on from SC whenever it may be. I’ll actually go even further to say that he does deserve one more year to prove his coaching abilities in 2018, even though I do not think he’ll pass the test, especially with the way the team is after the departures of many key players and assistants. He’s a good coach, but he just isn’t a great coach SC needs to get back to where it needs to be.

It’ll be interesting to see if USCDAN1986 was indeed supplying us with the correct intel about Helton and JDR. I’d be real shocked if it really was the truth, but I’ve seen much more shocking things before in my life. I’m sure you have, too.

          • steveg

You probably did see me defend Helton, through 2018. Never beyond. Keep in mind, Haden was on his way out, I have always heard Nikias hired Helton. Odd for sure. I always defended the one thing USC needed the most, and that was a stable program so the traditions could continue. If JDR is coming, he will be coming into a good place. That is what I supported Helton for, nothing more. This will be exciting the next few weeks, buckle up. Dang if he isn’t a real good recruiter though.

          • RegalTrojan

I’m not really sure if JDR has any more winning left in him. For some unfathomable reasons, some coaches can’t seem to win after a certain juncture in their coaching career no matter how much they’ve won in the past. But in terms of the coaching experience and credential, he’s obviously far superior to our current coach, so I wouldn’t oppose the hire. But hey, this is all a conjecture for now based on a rumor spread by USCDAN. I won’t believe it until I see it.

      • rusoviet

        Source?

        • USCDAN1986

          Straight out of USC.

          • rusoviet

What’s that? Some USC poster from West 28th Street acting like ‘NWA’?

          • USCDAN1986

            Someone within the AD dept.

          • rusoviet

Hmmm ok – how soon before this get’s ‘sprung’? have to be quickly if only to dissuade more potential recruits from choosing to commit elsewhere….any idea?

          • USCDAN1986

The kids know of the changes of the staff.. Look at all the kids coming back..

          • USCDAN1986

All the recruits know about JDR..

          • Trojan96

I just asked my SC media friend and he has heard nothing about JDR coming.

          • USCDAN1986

            Stealth..

          • Lunderful

            Timing of an announcement?

          • USCDAN1986

I spoke to several people who know..

          • Trojan96

If true. When are they announcing the change?

          • USCDAN1986

I gather when the entire staff is done.

          • USCDAN1986

            Hopefully this week.

      • schammer47

USCDAN1986, This Bull Sh***t claim of yours that Jack Del Rio has been hired to replace Coach Helton has made your post the front and center post of SW’s Iman Marshall Blog. Does it make your lifeless self look meaningful and important ? Not to me, Danny. You are a lowlife Fibber wasting my time. Chuck it !!!

        • USCDAN1986

          Lol.. Ok

  • Gabby

This decision was a no-brainer. He lacks the quick hip swivel to play CB at a high level. It’s a wise move to a safety position, where is skill set could be better utilized. Most of us projected him to be a safety in the NFL

    • Jack B

Or put some weight on him and move him to OLB. Just keep him off the corner. He’s just not suited to play there and his good desire to mix it up can be better used elsewhere.

      • Tebow_Obama

You should call your boy “the Kiffer” and see what he thinks. LOL!

        “the Kiffer”…how stupid!

        LMFAO!

        • Jack B

How stupid is Tebow_Obama! That means you’re a bi-racial, fanatically religious, socialistic, lying moron. Congrats Spanky, You’ve done yourself pound, weirdo.

      • Gabby

Whatever position he plays next season I’m still going to be nervous when he’s in pass coverage, until he can show marked improvement

      • steveg

That would be another body in LB corp and free Cam to go to DE on rushing downs.

        • Clay Russell

I don’t think Biggie has the frame to move to linebacker.

      • Pudly76

I’m hearing that’s where they plan to play Hufanga

        • Jack B

Hufanga’s a better athlete than Grabby. Better hips and better speed. Also more instinctive and versatile. Expect big things from that kid.

          • Pudly76

Tough kid..they have 2-3 db’s on visits this weekend and a 6-4 five star receiver.
Also heard there might be up to three or four transfers opening up more spots. Still haven’t heard much on an o-lineman other than Sewell..maybe we’ll find a transfer like we did with Stevie T..

          • Jack B

Without some more OLs, who actually have some talent, all these skill guys will be wasted when USC comes up against good competition.

Lack of strong OL recruiting is how USC got itself into the mess it’s in against talented, physical teams. Helton’s got this big monkey on his back and who knows if he and Callaway are capable of fixing it.

USC’s recruiting rankings are a great example of what’s wrong with the rankings business, which just totals up points, regardless if you’ve under-recruited positions which can severely compromise a team – like USC’s feeble OL.

          • Pudly76

Funny thing coming out of the AAA game last weekend was the way the east coast scouts were out there and not watching the competition all week and even most of the game.
As far as the o-linemen, I just report what I’m hearing…

          • steveg

That big receiver is crystal balled as 100% to Oregon. He would be a big flip.

          • Pudly76

He was big on Taggart so when he left he decommit..big time athlete

    • uscr

Yeah, what’s the big deal here? He’s just an average player that we can get a replacement for without a problem. He should stick it out as he might improve his draft status. He had his share of “missies” and definitely needs to improve.

  • Old Trojans never die

I am not sure if he is not fast or he just feels out of place, however he holds a lot of times. I still think he has potential that he hasn’t lived up to.

  • Clay Russell

I’m glad to see Big’ is back and I hope his move to safety is real. I see real potential for him at the safety spot and having played corner will be a benefit to him. I think he has the potential to be an intimidator out there and I’d love to see him on a different training plan to bulk up a little over the spring/summer.

If the move is real, then I know he’s disappointed, but I would tell him to look at it as an opportunity. You’ll be on receivers’ minds more as a safety than you were as a corner. You’ll see and understand the game better at safety, it’s more fun to play and you have a better chance to be special. You can make a mark and develop a rep easier at safety than you ever could have at CB. Don’t let childhood fantasies hold you back from being the best you can be. Let it go and embrace your bright future at safety. Glad to have you back.

  • Pudly76

Did anyone see that they’re bringing in another punter? A 26 yr old from Australia..

    • steveg

With a scholie or a walk on. Scholie it sounds like.

      • Pudly76

What I saw wasn’t clear on that..he’s played professionally in Australia.

    • Jack B

Ya, we don’t have enough punters on scholarship already. Helton’s getting ripped for this elsewhere. He must love punters! I thought that was Slick Rick’s gig!

      • Pudly76

When I first heard all I could think was “you’ve got to be kidding me!”

        • Jack B

Maybe Helton or Baxter thinks we’re gonna have to punt a lot. All I can say is, I’ve heard better news before out of USC.

  • timmay

Greg Roman as an OC. Heck he might not be a bad HC but he doesn’t fit the part unless SC scrubs him up like they did Gomer and Sark. Cam Cameron might do something with the talent. Gary Crowton is an excellent OC but he’s rumored to have had personal issues but SC might take a look and see. Brian Ferentz is a young guy who might want a bigger stage. I know Gomer isn’t going to hire a new OC and better names wouldn’t come but there it is.

  • William Sequeira

I never felt Iman was a great pass defender, I do think he is physical and likes to lay the hits. I am not sure he is not playing out of position.
