Kevin Sumlin To Arizona

So at a bare minimum this forces everyone in the Pac-12 to up their recruiting game right?

    • That could leave an opening in Atlanta for you….perfect!……thanks for all your wonderful and insightful posts.

  1. Mediocre, non-creative hire. No discipline. Teams usually get worse as season goes along.

Navy’s Ken Niumatalolo, 84-48 in Annapolis, would have been a better move IMO.

Not worried about Sumlin at all. Just a guy who will win 7-8 games a year and get the Wildcats to mid-major bowls.

    • Glad Ken was sent off by Tate, was far more worried about the triple option than Sumlin’s offense.

      • I would have enjoyed seeing KN in the Pac12 though. That would have been an experiment worth watching and pretty educational. Too bad. A great missed opportunity.

        • They’ve been a thorn in the side of the irish, you just don’t see that triple option enough to dedicate much practice time to it…then they come in and cut block your defensive linemen all game..

  2. Well we are getting jack del rio so….. oh wait. No we are not. Kevin Sumlin does recruit well, but that’s about the sum of it.

  3. Wow. BKU is not happy with Clancy Pendergast and is could be leaving. He feels disrespected that he’s not allowed to be down on the field and Pendergast allowed Orgeron on the field. Plus Pendergast is not excepting of BKU’s opinions.

    F*CK CLANCY!

      • That he might. My buddy made it sound that this had to be worked out between the two. A mutual respect. So i take it if the decision to not allow HIM down on the sidelines is made before spring then he will either leave or it will be his last season at SC.

        • Good info. I’m sure this stuff goes on all the time in differing degrees. Helton can put this fire out. He couldn’t contain Baby Helton vs Tee which is why Swann had to step in.

          • SS told everyone a few days ago that Green was staying but the next day Green had a change of heart and it looked bad for SS. I still think hes probably the best around for SC Football. But he can have a moment from time to time like that.

          • People don’t understand what he says all the time, if he says “it looks like”, they take it as a sure thing.

          • SS is pretty experienced. I’m surprised he didn’t cover himself. I never thought Green would stick. He’s in a very good NFL position unless he bombs the combines.

          • He did cover, people don’t all understand how he puts things sometimes..not uncommon on any board.

          • But if he covered, why did he look bad?

Last night I posted a commit to USC but I laid it right on the Green Board. I later countered it with a GB contradiction.

          • Absolutely, and he corrected too. People are funny and like to jump the gun a little bit. BTW, I heard that ITS had a very nice visit and things are looking positive with him..also am hearing of “possible” grade issues with OG, could be just a rumor.

Devon Williams looks like a real stud in his Trojan uni..big kid.

      • I should be clear this info from my buddy came from SS subscription. Just saying. But I think BKU is right DE’s have to be coached down on the field.

        • The real issue is, if BKU comes down, who goes up to do his job there, seems to me. And why wouldn’t Clancy agree with BKU?

What is a SS subscription, BTW?

          • Good question. Rumor is if BKU does not like something of feels slighted he will let that person know. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but that sounds like something Clancy wants to avoid.

          • BKU owns the defensive line, hook, line and sinker, Clancy loves the job he’s done recruiting and bringing Green up a level.

          • I many first thought two years ago was why the he** is Green up in the booth? But I guess we know for sure why now. He wants to micromanage.

  4. Kevin might recruit well but they don’t stay. Two reasons for that, the type of player he recruits and the type of playa he recruits.

    • Sumlin’s too greasy for me. When USC was looking at him at one time, he put up some impossible conditions. It’s funny how our opinions of someone get shaped forever based on so-called inside info we hear.

      • Next focus is on the transfers and those who may leave the team..does Lockett come back from injury or quit with bad hips, does Jamel Cook transfer after missing most of the season with grade issues? Interesting times ahead the next two weeks, does Ykili Ross leave for more playing time?

      • Julius Irvin (ServiteHS) on campus today too..unofficial visit? Story is SC asked him to hold off committing in December, which upset him. Wonder if he’s over it?

  5. Solid choice, with fantastic Texas connections , and since the PAC 12 is currently a joke, he’ll probably take the school to another level, because this is the easiest conference he’s ever coached in .

        • It’s my understanding that AZ has under construction an enclosed practice facilty for the football team. If true, that takes off the table the argument used by other PAC-12 programs to HS recruits that practicing in the AZ desert heat is a bummer.

          • From November to April the weather there is perfect. Tucson is a resort town. Lots of good Mexican food restaurants. Great hiking and mountain bike trails in Sabino Canyon and Sahauro National Park. Ever stayed at La Paloma, La Ventana or El Conquistador on a SC road trip weekender?

          • School is from August to May, so they miss most of it. When they first joined the Pac 12 I went over there to visit pals who went there and it was wild. Their Greek system rocks. 5 parties in 3 days and a football game to boot!

    • The same guy that finished over .500 in conference once while he was at A&M and lost to 6-7 UCLA?

    • Come in Fred! Did you miss the ucla game? One of the worst collapses I’ve ever seen by a HC in the history of the game. If there was ever a coach who defined deer-in-the-headlights, it was Kevin Sumlin. Besides, he’s a greasebag, and that’s never good.

      • Yeah, he’s kinda a greasy, but I wil never judge a coach on one game, his overall record is impressive

        • His overall record vs the SEC is 25-23 and in 6 years, he never finished higher than tied for 2nd in the West, and usually much lower. You’re going soft on me Fred. That’s crap.

  6. Sound like a bunch of scared little whiners on here. :* I
This was a great hire by Arizona and they will probably compete right away for the South. Sumlin, Yates and Mazzone are going to make Arizona a tough out.

    • Yea, nobody has seen a Mazzone offense in the Pac12…oops, I mean no-one’s had trouble beating it..Hahahahaha

    • Sumlin’s a greaseball who usually coaches non-ranked teams. Perfect. To call him “great” is a laugh to all A&M fans who got tired of his mediocre schtick. Even ucla beat him in their miracle comeback when Sumlin folded like a cheap K-Mart tent. Mazzone? He’s scary all right. Just no big deal. A meh hire, all the way.

    • Can you imagine what others Pac 12 fans are saying about SC choices!!! Still laughing at Sark the sot.

    • I think he’s probably better than all of them put together. And he stinks, btw.

  7. Who would have thought that the it would be the state of Arizona that hires two brothers as their HC. I like it.
