Ex-USC Names In The News

Former USC wide receivers coach John Morton has reportedly been fired by the New York Jets as offensive coordinator. You know who might replace him? Jets QBs coach Jeremy Bates, the former USC offensive coordinator aka Mr. Coffee. It’s simply stunning the way some guys get recycled in coaching.

  1. A guy you said has no talent may be an OC in the NFL. I guess we should consider our source on here.

  2. Don’t forget the nepotism.

Monte Kiffin begat Lane and Chris Kiffin. Art Briles begat Kendall Briles. Charlie Weis begat Junior. Mike Shanahan begat Kyle Shanahan. Jim Bates begat Jeremy Bates. Pete Carroll begat Brennan Carroll. Marty Schotenheimer begat Brian Schotenheimer. John Harbaugh begat Jay Harbaugh, Kim Helton begat Clay and Tyson Helton, Jack Harbaugh begat John and Jim, Mark Richt begat Jon Richt, Bill Snyder begat Sean Synder, Buddy Ryan begat Rex and Rob, Norv Tunrer begat Scott Turner . . . and on and on and on.

It’s like 19th century royalty. At this rate, then entire football coaching industry will consist of inbred hemophiliacs.

  3. This is the way it’s always been. Nothing new here. And don’t forget coaches who bring their sons up into the profession as well.

    • Kiffin did fall of the radar once he started having success. Wolfie feeds off the negative

  4. I know of a particular coaching staff, where nobody would get recycled at a power conference school

    • It’s gonna be a rough 2018 season for you Fred. Staff intact. Helton happy. Swann patiently waiting. We’re gonna have some really good new freshman though, so there’s always that. Maybe some new blood will get a shot. Otherwise, hunker down and enjoy.

    • Have you read this article Fred? It’s a good article on USC’s performance against OSU.

The writer comments on the offense, which he never does. He’ll say why, but it is an excellent article you may find interesting.

    • Hmmm. I thought Tennessee was a power 5 conference school? I guess Tyson Helton doesn’t count . Your boat always has leaks Fred. How is Harbaugh and Charlie Strong doing? Didn’t USC beat Shaw twice this year?

  5. Coaching is a small fraternity. Rarely do coaches get hired without some history with someone else on staff.

  6. The theory of teams hiring new gms and hcs want to bring in their own staff or replace due to it not working out ..Lol Ask Jim Mora!

  7. In other news from across the CFB social media landscape outside the PAC 12, fans are referring to the current state of Trojan football this way…

    – USC University of Soft Californians

    Alabama 52 USC 6

    Notre Dame 49 USC 14

    Ohio State 24 USC 7

          • If ever you’re not inebriated and become capable to navigate to other websites you might find out.

The season is over and yet you’re still offering up rub downs to Clay Helton…get a life.

          • The season is over and you’re still putting a knife in Helton’ back. Here’s some real new, as much as you want Helton out of town, he’s not going anytime soon.

      • That was a great game. Another example of the Trojans talent winning despite poor coaching.

        • Give it up. ucla football sincerely stinks in every single measurable capacity compared to USC, except one:

ucla, even though never very good, once upon a time won 8 games in a row against USC. That really upset the Trojans, so USC decided to pay the little gutties back and has since allowed ucla to win only 4 measly games since 1998.

And the bruins were badly outcoached by Kiffin while the Trojans were on their way to 50-0 in 2011. You obviously missed the game.

          • What now we’re supposed to act like the Montreal Canadiens waxing in past glory with nothing to show for the past 24 years?

          • When did i say that “we’re” acting like a hockey team waxing in past glory? Is it okay to bring up the past if its only the previous year? But not if its 5 years? 10 years? 24 years? I guess every team should throw out their national titles and heismans if they are more than a year old. Its not like nebraska or miami are instilling any fear into opponents anymore. I wonder why recruits even go there. They havent done anything lately with their coaches…

          • It has been over 10 years since USC played in a NC game. We’re facing another year of possible crushed dreams and again it’s due to whose directing the program.

Last year’s schedule was not a difficult one save for two regular season road games, a CCG and the bowl game – USC was 1 – 3. I doubt we do any better in 2018 –

          • I agree. So you could either be optimistic or maybe you should jump ship and support a team that u feel is ran/coached in the proper way.

          • Helton doesn’t: look, act or feel like a quality top tier coach and you can see it in the way his peers see him.

Our version of Jerry Faust – i.e. the world is full of nice guys.

          • It’s all about the now. USC being USC isn’t instilling any fear in other teams right now with Helton as head coach.

          • So you think USC with its 11-3 record this past season, all it’s close games they played vs soft teams they should have blown out and the Trojans having been slapped around by quality teams was due to “good coaching”? LMFAO!

          • Reading comprehension problem? I would say you do, either that or you just like making chit up.

          • If you follow me closely, you’d know I was not a fan of this coaching staff.. Without Sam the staff-team is a 6-6 team.. The wins were ugly.. Ugly in part to poor coaching.. The 11-3 record is a fraud . .. I like Matt, I hope they coach him.. It could be a long season for both LA teams.. I see Stanford winning the North and UOA winning the south..
