  1. Does that include Stanford’s Heisman hopeful Bryce Love who announced he would forsake NFL riches and return?

    • I didn’t know love was coming back, thanks for the info……he’s looking for some Heisman Hardware. With love back, Stanford looks to be the early-season favored to win the Pac-12 North

      “Unfinished business”

        • And their game the next week is against the Huskies, could be an interesting two game stretch

      • Stanford will never win another Heisman. No matter how good their guy is he’ll never beat out the top SEC/Big 10/Big 12 player.

        • With most of their games on at 10:45 PM EST it will be difficult. But since Love made the Heisman ceremony, he will have the necessary preseason name recognition to make him an early front runner. If our vaunted 2018 defense shuts him down, he will drop out of the running.

  2. With Clay Helton back as head coach with that many Trojans returning it will translate into a break even won/loss record for USC at best.

    • Put your money where your mouth is. Vegas will take ALL your money on a prop bet, that USC only wins 6 games. With that football IQ of yours it sounds like easy money…. just saying

      • With Clay Helton as USC’s head coach he’s more than capable and uniquely unqualified to have the Trojans finish in the cellar, well below six win capability.

In other words, that would be a fools bet…maybe you need to anty up.

        LOL!

        • It’s obvious you don’t know how this works, you’re bet would be 6 wins or less. After pleading your case it sounds like the bet for you…… ante up and don’t look back

          • “you’re” bet…is it?

Thanks for playing, simpleton…now run along, this is big business we’re discussing here.

          • Simpleton?……says the guy who makes the same reply over and over and over. We all laugh at you.

(It’s called autocorrect, something your dinosaur lacks)

          • These guys don’t realize what the defense is going to be like, they are all wrapped up in losing Sam and that the offense will be unable to score. Conversely, it will be the other teams unable to score, SC only needs to score enough to win. Fink or Sears will get the ball to the end zone often.

          • We led the nation in quarterback sacks and arguably our best pass rusher missed most of the season. From that sack leading defense we’re only losing two starters from the front 7, I’m counting Porter as a starter. Besides Hawkins leadership skills, he can be easily replaced.

Saban won numerous championships with high-caliber defenses and pedestrian offenses.

  3. I wish that UClown D could stay intact, as it is, forever…

Perhaps, one day, our OC can solve it the way every other team they played did.

  4. With a spread of 13-19 and SC at 16, seems pretty balanced, no team with a huge advantage/disadvantage with this stat. Wait, wasn’t the a post not too long ago about how useless stats are?

    • Wolf does not believe in stats, as his post shows you. The rest of us do so he tosses us a bone once in a while.

  5. With the current coaching staff, the Trojans will struggle to be bowl eligible…but, hey, Lynn Swann, prefers continuity over success…Ted Tollner, Larry Smith, Paul Hackett, Robo II come to mind…Nobody–at least, who’s being honest–was excited about Pete Carroll’s hiring–me included–but, he woke up the fading echo’s of the Trojan’s glorious past; reminded the faithful USCs place in the historical hierarchy of college football…Kiffin, Sarkisian, Helton–ugh…Tollner, Smith, Hackett, Robo II…? Mike Garret got lucky with Pete…Haden? Seriously? what self-respecting Trojan would spend their falls in a broadcast booth providing insight for Notre Dame football broadcasts…? He shied away from the NCAA over the sanctions; fired Kiffin at LAX after a 62-28 thrashing by Arizona St (Clancy Pendergast was the DC then too), hired coach n”O” temporarily; brought in Sarkisian –why? ( I live in Seattle. They weren’t unhappy to see him go) canned him, and then turned the reigns over to Helton–a very nice guy; comfortable with family and friends of his family…Meanwhile, with new coaching hires in the Pac 12, no changes at USC, life for Trojan Football is going to get tougher…same offensive line coach–pal of Helton’s dad…same defensive coordinator….new QB coach–friend of Helton’s brother…etc…wait until 20…

    • “he woke up the fading echo’s of the Trojan’s glorious past; reminded the faithful USCs place in the historical hierarchy of college football”

      So true!……..great comment

  6. USC is basically standing pat, while bringing in a strong 2018 recruiting class that could end up light on the OL. Maybe, maybe not.

No new significant hires and one-year asst K limitations spells trouble. The handwriting is on the wall. Helton’s gonna have to sink or swim. Don’t know how he brings in a new RB asst coach replacement who is any good.

With a new, inexperienced QB and the same crappy OL talent and OL/DB coaches, I see USC heading to a Holiday Bowl with Helton probably keeping his job if he wins it and beats ucla and ND during the reg season.

Losses to both ucla and ND would seal his fate. Swann didn’t make this hire and he’s not tied to Helton. But if he sees USC play cleaner ball with less penalties and better player development, Helton might stay even with a worse bowl. But if the team continues to win ugly and looks like it did in 2017, Helton will be outta here and Swann will start over with a new HC and better assts with long term Ks.

So for now, I’d say Helton is definitely not sitting pretty. He’s unable to bring in any new, sought-after assts and is gonna have to win with what he has.

I predict a new USC HC for the 2019 season. He’ll come in with some good talent. Interesting to see Swann put the lid on what Helton can do – unless you believe Helton self-imposed his own limitations in the interest of continuity and loyalty.
