Bill Stern was a nationally known radio broadcaster in the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s. I am skeptical if these stories about 1931 and 1938 USC-Notre Dame games are true, but Stern made them interesting. Listen to the first few minutes.

Nothing as of yet.
I have heard nothing either. A friend of mine saw him today too. He was told by someone that JDR is new coach? So must becoming soon I’m guessing
JDR is HC in waiting .. I was told a few days ago that JDR is working directly under Swann.. Many rumors, titles etc.. I see JDR as the teams ‘GM’. and while Helton is still employed at USC reports to JDR.
I was told by a player last week that they will habe a new HC after signing period. I wonder if that JDR then?
YEP
So you heard the same thing what happens to Helton? Oc
Yes
To light a fire under his arse?
Weird that Scott didn’t post that USC had a nice win in Oregon tonight. Must have slipped his mind.

Bill Stern was the first one to call the Rose Bowl, “The Granddaddy of them all”. He coined that phrase during the 1939 Rose Bowl between USC and Duke. Stern was one of the best!
My sources tell me Keith Jackson coined the Rose Bowl phrase…… just saying
Keith Jackson was 10 years old when Bill Stern coined the phrase on January 2nd 1939.
Keith Jackson is credited with the phrase
mr. Jackson recently passed away and it was mentioned in numerous news columns throughout the country
Since we’re on the subject of Notre Dame football. Knute Rockne was 5′-8″ and weight 145 pounds when he played football at Notre Dame University. He died in a airplane crash in 1931 at the young age of 43.
