USC Morning Buzz: It’s A Busy Time For Clay Helton

USC coach Clay Helton is going to the Bay Area with defensive line coach Kenechi Udeze today to visit defensive tackle Tuli Letuligasenoa of Concord De La Salle. I’ve commented in the past about a limited number of coaches recruiting and Udeze seems to be everywhere lately.

Last night, Helton visited with Servite defensive back Julius Irvin, who is considering Alabama. His father is former Rams defensive back LeRoy Irvin.

  1. Clay Helton: “Julius, I hear your thinking about Alabama. Before you make any decision, I hope, for your sake, you’ll consider the coaching you’ll get as a defensive back at USC. Maybe you’d like to spend a leisurely day at the beach with our All American corner Jack Jones to discuss this further.”

      • You’re always thinking, steveg. A leisurely day at Malibu Beach with the USC Song Girls — that might become the Gold Standard for Pac 12 recruiting……

        • Gold standard for the NCAA, nobody can touch it. Alabama has lousy beaches and their song girls all have big butts, I am told.

          • Steveg —-This is one of those posts that could wind up on MSNBC. They’ll show it to Chuck Schumer and he’ll start crying.

  2. this is the main problum poeple have with cloneing when one person can be every where at once, if u havent been cloned u cant get the same recuriting advantige, ncca neads to stop this know! smdh!

    • What?! The members of the NCAA have been repeatedly threatened with the death penalty by the United States Supreme Court if they get involved in cloning. Do your research, Ed!

  3. Reports out that the Browns have no interest in head case Josh Manziel Rosen… Shocker

  4. I love the hustle, Udeze is turning out to be one of the better ones, and not to mention, he has years of nfl experience

    • He’s actually the best coach we have left, Fred. I had a feeling it would turn out that way when I heard him interviewed after they made him permanent. He’s aggressive and he cares. Dynamite combo.

      • Udeze has to do the work that many of our other assts can’t. He’s a godsend. Thankful we have him.

          • No. He’s not threatening to leave and he knows that Helton has 2018 to prove he deserves more time. Udeze also knows USC gave him his big shots both as a player and a coach. Plus, he probably cleaned up in the NFL.

No sense in Swann extending anyone else now. He only extended Tee because he potentially could have walked and a coord spot would have been too hard to fill with a 1-year K.

  5. I hope they grabbed a few Tee Shirts from the store on their way out. That’ll really sell them on the program.

  6. Included in a Julius Irvin commitment to USC is an expanded network of intel we can come to depend on

  7. Amazing how quickly the suddenly Super Bowl-bound Philadelphia Eagles turned their dumpster fire around as soon as they dumped Show Cause Choc Chip and revamped his mutinous roster.

It was very smart for Kelly to put his tail between his legs and try to jump start the always underachieving little ucla gutties. A man has to know his limitations.

    • Hilarious, Jack. [I wish your post could be substituted for Kelly’s present Wikipedia bio….]

    • It’s my understanding that Irvin is #3 on our list of db’s that includes Griffin and Taylor-Stuart..would be surprised if we actually had room for all three…bama is also after ITS, as well as Irvin.

      • Anyone who can possibly play corner is immed welcome IMHO. I say we have to make room. Having to play Grabby out of position these last few years has shown me the error of our ways.

It would be brutal to see ALA come into our own back yard and steal prospects we need, but if anyone can do it, Saban can.

  8. Irvin would be a good get. My “source” close to me (a kid in my house that plays with him) says he is all about USC, so hopefully CH can close the deal..unless the Alabama “bag man” gets to him first..lol

  9. How many more departures (grad transfers, etc.) do we think there will be? By my count, we’re at our limit with the current verbal commits. Hopefully the staff knows of 3 or 4 more dudes who are leaving the program for one reason or another. And to them: fight on!
