A Large Frothy Mug of Hypocrisy

| | Comments (3) |

Last summer, USC president Steven Sample made a significant announcement that he would end the sale of alcohol inside the Coliseum on game days.
``I have received dozens of letters from irate Trojans who say they can't and they won't take their families to USC games anymore because drunken fans create a hostile and frightening environment,'' Sample wrote.
Well, the ban lasted about 11 months apparently, because beer sales were alive and well at Sunday's scrimmage at the Coliseum. Granted, this might have been a ``one off'' instance, but I think some of the families might have wanted advance warning, especially the way beer flowed from the concession stands.
One vendor said she ran out of beer at halftime.
I'm awaiting word from the university on this issue to see if any changes will be made to the existing policy.

Mr. Wolf,

I think you should familiarize yourself with the difference between "hypocracy" and mere inconsistency.

Let me explain: The Trojan Huddle was played in front of 15,000 consisting mostly of boosters, season ticket holders, and their families. Furthermore the Trojans were playing a *scrimmage* against themselves. This was quite a different situation than a *game day* crowd of 92,000. SC was well within its right to treat the very different situations differently.

That's ok, SCBert. Scott just keeps looking for any excuses these days to take shots at SC, for reasons I can't fathom. It's not like he's following journalistic principles to stay unbiased, that would be expected and reasonable, but instead he works hard to go the other way. Maybe he's afraid to be called a homer, so he has to take extra efforts to sound cynical. Sort of the "Petros effect."

I totally agree with Scott on this issue. I have been going to USC football games since 1989 and the drinking had gotten worse over the years. I was very excited to see that there was going to ban on beer sales at football games.

I was SO disappointed to see that beer was sold on Sunday! My long time friend brought his son to his first USC scrimmage and the sight and smell of the beer was horrible! I sighted several fans carrying 2 full cups of beer and that they were spiilling their precious beverage all down the isle to their seat.

Way to Go Scott! USC needs to be called out on this one!!!

Fight on!
