Last Word on Pro Day

| | Comments (4) |

There’s been a huge amount of ignorance regarding the times posted in the 40-yard dash at Sunday’s Pro Day.

Two of the silliest ideas spread are that Cromwell Field has a slow track and electronic times are slower than hand times. The track at Cromwell Field is actually known for its ability to produce fast times. Sprinters and hurdlers routinely clock times that they do not duplicate on other tracks.
And hand times are always SLOWER than electronic times. That’s why players prefer to run with an electronic-timing system. That is why NFL scouts timed Reggie Bush and Darnell Bing slower than the electronic-timing system.
That said, NFL teams could care less if Bush runs a 4.3 or 4.4 because they know that unlike most athletes, he can run that speed whether going forward or sideways. That’s what makes Bush a special player.
By the way, word around the NFL is that one reason LenDale White appears out of shape is that a team with a mid-first round already told White they will draft him.

Pfft. You clearly don't know anything about track or Cromwell Field.

If a guy runs a 10.4 hand timed, it is almost always FASTER than what an electronic time would be, which is why T&F News doesn't recognize those marks as official. That's why the conversion is to add .24 to that mark.

The track itself is considered slow. Try asking some of the sprinters and they will tell you.

Let's hope that is the case for Lendale. Pete can't be too happy with that lack of respect. I read one scout said it looked like he needed a bra. But I would never say that to his face.

Well, let's hope that Lendale is smart enough not to depend on the word of some GM that they'll draft him in the mid-first round.

Funny things happen in the draft every year, and if Lendale leaves a few million on the table, he'll have only himself to blame.

Pfft. You clearly don't know that football isn't played on a track or Cromwell Field so who cares about the conversion rate.

so which sprinters are these that you are talking about that know "all" about Cromwell Field?
