Radio Wars, Cont.

Effective immediately, Pete Arbogast is no longer doing sports updates on 1540-AM. Seems the station was a little upset that 710-AM used Arbogast's play-by-play for promotional purposes last week.
All I really care about from all this is whether Petros Papadakis can still say ``How do you do!'' or find someone else to needle in the studio.
But seriously, this is example No. 2 (or is No. 3) of how touchy the egos in the radio business can be. We mentioned last week that 1540 denied 710 the use of its existing ISDN lines in Heritage Hall for a live broadcast. This is rivalry that may not go away, much like Matt Leinart.

The good news is we no longer have to hear Arbo on 1540.

If you read this Arbo....YOU SUCK!!!

ok scott, you know i love the blog....

what is up with the two cryptic sentences about leinart that end the above post and a previous one where you refer to matt as pressuring the titans to draft him? the great thing about the blog is that you can write things you cannot write in the daily news....so write it.

is matt's ego exploding? is he pining to be reunited with norman? what up?

I don't get it. Why would 1540 pull PA from doing updates? What does he have to do with 710?

I agree. How petty can a station be?! To not allow ESPN radio to use the ISDN lines is pretty childish and immature - but then, look how that station is imploding. And to spin it that the "other station" is really the reason we had to fire the 'Voice of the Trojans' is laughable. They're angry they lost USC and all that it meant to them. The great news is now we can hear the games in Orange County. Heck, I know people who live in Beverly Hills and couldn't hear the station after dusk! Just be honest and say, the station is cutting expenses because it's for sale - period.

I too would like to know what's up with the subtle digs at Leinart? Please elaborate, if you can't what's the purpose of your blog and if you can't be specific don't say it at all....

As said before, I hope Willard 'The Rat' is gone.

He would drone on and on and on after games about his half-baked understanding of the game. He's lame.

Thank goodness that group is gone.

If Pete Arbo is to stay...remind him that he's doing radio...(paint a picture for the listeners -- not TV!).

PS - Rory Markus has a better radio voice...just listen to the Angels!

It's no big deal the "Voice of the Trojans" doesn't need 1540a.m. Pete Arbogast is a class act and loyal Trojan! Not many people can follow a legend such as "Tom Kelly" Pete did so with quality & professionalism.

It does not surprize me that 1540a.m. is losing major content(USC Football), after all they think Petro Papadakis is a budding star. I hope he does not have an opportunity to scream in the microphone anymore, or sing! Petro can provide good insight regarding football, but the rest of his platform is weak!

Good Luck Pete!

Scott Wolf

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
