The Best
USC receives an unofficial visit from junior tailback Jahvid Best this weekend. Best, who is from Salesian High School in Richmond, Calif., averaged 10.43 yards per carry and gained 1,432 yards with 16 touchdowns last season while leading his school to the North Coast Section Class A championship.
Speed isn’t an issue as Best is considered one of the top sprinters in the nation. Last weekend, USC recruit Jamere Holland from Taft High in Woodland Hills won the 100 meters in 10.36 seconds at the Arcadia Invitational with a wind-reading of 1.9 mph.
In another division at Arcadia, Best ran the 100 in 10.39 seconds with a wind-reading of 2.2 mph, just above the legal limit.
Now the only question is whether he can convince USC coach Pete Carroll to offer him a scholarship. The Trojans are being extra cautious so far, although they do have a commitment from tailback Broderick Green from Little Rock, Ark.

Thanks for the recruiting update. Speed is an essential ingredient to a winning program. Keep up the good work.
