A Legal Opinion

Carmen Trutanich, the lawyer for Hershel Dennis, Eric Wright and Rey Maualuga, offered his own opinion on the Mark Sanchez case.
``From what I'm hearing from people, it looks like a weak case,'' Trutanich said.

scott,
of course, pete carroll and no one else at the usc ftbl program are really concerned about the sanchez arrest or any other.

when da cooley, a usc grad( like garcetti before him ), decided not to prosecute wright for sexual assault after the victim decided not to testify and not to prosecute wright or his usc ftbl player roommate for the 136 ecstasy pills found in their apartment because the da could not figure out which player brought the pills in and rey maualuga gets off( in a deal run through the city atty's office for a change of pace ) with a misdemeanor assault( to be erased from his record later) after nearly beating another usc student to death in front of numerous witneses at a party, is it not obvious that no charges will ever be filed against any usc ftbl player no matter what they do as long as usc grads control the da's office? as we all know, that is not how cooley treats the other citizens of la county. in those cases, the presumption of innocence is converted to a presumption of guilty. when a van nuys jury had the good sense to find robert blake not guilty in a case so badly screwed up by cooley's office that blake did not even need an attorney, this same da cooley got on tv and called the jurors stupid.

why do you even bother to write about these arrests or the bush matter? we can already see the criminal case for extortion or blackmail coming down against michael michaels and his attorney to shut them up.

for the time being, that is just the way things are being run in la county. usc ftbl players know that they can get away with anything.

this is not to say that any of these usc ftbl players were necessarily guilty of anything. they are simply not treated the way cooley's and garcetti's treat other citizens of la county.

on those issues, the now informed voters of la county will speak at the next election.

you sure do have a lot of courage to write about these things at all.

Does anyone truly think that Trutanich is not still working for SC football, just not of record....?

Trutanich connections within City Attorney office are well documented......his skills are obviously helpful in getting Cooley's office to "not prioritize" the case and have it remanded to "safe harbor" (Nooch owns the harbor) of Delgadillo-land (Nooch has a piece-a-dis too).

Don't be confused by Nooch's "my daughter didn't get accepted to SC...they are dead to me" nonsense. In his world, all it takes is a "you owe me" glance and / or well placed call by advocate...and presto....(and a little well placed Umarked Suitcase of Cash delivery to the victim...right Hershel) we have a dismissal.

Although recent events seem to have pulled the veil on the enterprise....these guys are still operating on reflex....and as Mr. Gilleran has succintly explained above....this is just how the naked city works.

scott,
obviously, i was just testing you.it does take a great deal of courage to write about the things you do.

there are very powerful and ruthless forces on the other side.

although it took years, the lapd was put under federal supervision because of all of the corruption and favors for special interest groups. progress is being made.

if that had not happened, i doubt whether any of the usc arrests would have made.

i would also not be surprised if the feds were not watching these usc gate and bush gate incidents very closely, including the operations of cooley's office.

after all, if you look at the 5/5/2006 edition of the la times, starting at page b1 and continued on page b9 , you will find an article by matt lait and scott glover entitled " judge recommends lisker's claims proceed" which explains how a local federal magistrate, bruce lisker, in which the magistrate excoriated the conduct of the la da's office in one of their specials, a completely bogus murder conviction in which the defendant/victim was convicted of murder in a case in which the la da's office, as is quite common, completely ignored the most basic and fundamental consitutional rights of the defendant and illegally obtained a murder conviction. obviouly, this guy was not a usc ftbl player and the guilty until proven innocent standard was applied. the us magistrate determined that the trial and other proceeding were so horrendous that the victim deserved a new trial in federal court.
naturally, da cooley was not available for comment.

on 5/6/2006. the same authors did a follow up story at pages b1 and b11 of the la times entitled " judge chipped away at lisker evidence ".

if you really want to write about these usc ftbl player matters-uscgate and bushgate, you might be interested in contacting the authors and the legal scholars who commented in the articles.

it was a few expose's like this case, exhaustively investigated by the la times which eventualy led to the lapd being put under federal supervision.

cooley and his crew know that they are being watched. they might not be able to pull off the coverup in the usc gate and bushgate matters as they did in prior cases involving usc ftbl players.

however, you will have to write about what goes on behind the surface in addition to just reporting the arrests and the eventual results as if they are being handled in the way the la da's office handles cases involving usc ftbl players and somehow should be considered as just results.

again, it is possible that each and every usc ftbl player arrested in the last 4 years or not even arrested for outrageous conduct would have been found innocent if they had been treated the same way other citizens are.

however, they have not been treated that way. the presumption in their cases is innocent and will not be proven guily or even charged no matter what the evidence is.

keep up the great work,
