End Of An Era?

So much for the Trojan family. Even Lott's kid went to UCLA and Munoz's kid to Tenn.

Well, if you are not good enough, you cant play for the Trojans. It takes more than a name, that is why the Trojan family is a hard earned honor. If he was good enough he'd have gotten an offer.

Matthews' family should have no bearing on whether he gets a scholarship offer from SC. He has to earn it on his own merits. Anything less is an insult to the vast majority of the team who are not legacy players.

If this Matthews kid were really that good he's be on the USC radar.... I doubt he'll be better than Chris Galippo or Malcolm Smith (younger brother of WR Steve Smith)... and then there's the possibility that Kenny Rowe will joind his brother Alfred at USC... and let's not forget Ryan Kalil's little brother is on his way... the Trojan Family isn't dead by any means.

This is similar to the apparently fairly new policy of devaluing alums' kids in the general admissions process. SC'll be sorry soon enough when it loses whole swaths of alumni support.

its not Clay Jr.'s fault. SC only needs one or two linebackers and they already have Galippo. I don't expect SC to offer scholarships to legacies.

If you are a legacy and have the talent to warrant a scholarship from SC, then great. If not, then come in as a walkon. I do expect SC to give him a fair evaluation though.

I do admit that Nece going to ucla was wrong. I spoke to Ronnie and he was really pissed that JR's defensive coordinator wouldn't even look at him.

Well, I don't if this is necessarily an example of the Trojan family not working. Essentially, we've only got a few LB scholies to give as we're stacked at that position. So, we're only going to offer to the best of the best. We've got enough legacies that are idiots that attend the school (and bring down the rep) - we don't need the same happening to our football team.

Now, as for Lott's nephew or Munoz's son, that could KINDA be considered a knock on the family, but we had some terrible teams (and coaching and stupid admin moves), so if Ronnie and Anthony wanted their peeps to go elsewhere, I guess you can't blame them for it. It was a business decision at that
point.

I dont know first hand but didnt Lott's relationship with his son have something to do with him not going to SC. And Munoz's daughter also went to UT so it might just of been a decision they were more comfortable with.

I remember Munoz's kid saying that when he chose Tennessee, USC wasn't playing for NC's. I found that disappointing.

I don't see a problem. When 'SC was not playing for national championships there were some people who went where they thought they would be better served Munoz at Tenn. Lott's situation was an embarrassment but quiet as kept, 'SC was pulling the best talent at the time even if the coaching was squandering it all. When weighed against the number of legacy players and coaches it is far outweighed.

As far as Matthews,I'm sure they realize that with a limited number of slots and some needs in other areas, that Casey would be WELCOMED as a walk on but 'SC can't afford to offer a scholie. Family considerations go both ways.

More importantly, it is in life that the Trojan Family is most important. I don't live in So Cal right now but my mortgage broker, insurance advisor, lawyer and a number of employees are Trojans. Hell I still watch games with my ex girlfreind from 'SC sometimes! THAT'S family. Fight On!
