with this information on how sanchez actually got arrested, had to put up $200,000 in bail, and had his name tarnished for life, the question of the violation of sanchez's fundamental constitutional and civil rights by the lapd and those responsible for the lapd policy of arresting citizens on the basis of a mere complaint by someone's mother rises to the level of a severe outrage against all of the citizens of the city of los angeles and an insult to the memories of all those who have fought in wars to preserve these very basic freedoms.

at least the duke lacrosee players were not arrested until after the local da had taken the case to a grand jury composed of citizens.

however, that protection turned out to be meaningless since that da permitted only the accuser's dide of the story to get to the grand jury.

when we americans are observing memorial day to honor all americans who have and are putting their lives at risk to protect those basic freedoms and rights, it is outrageous to have the lapd and the la da out there violating those rights every single day as a matter of policy.

it is no wonder that the lapd has been operating under federal supervision since 2001 and that their recent request to be relieved of that supervision was turned down flat by us district judge gary a. feess on 5/15/2006.

one of the problems is that the lapd has failed to implement a computer data base that would allow the public to track the disciplinary records and arrest records of lapd officers and employees.

la county sheriff baca has had such a system up and working for several years.

there are many fine lapd officers working now. however, it appears that some people at lapd simply do not want such a data base to exist.

fortunately, los angeles now finally has an hispanic american mayor, a member of one of the ethnic groups apparently targeted by some members of the lapd who do not want that data made public, as it is on the county sheriff's level.

i fully expect the mayor and the city council to take steps to reverse this clearly unconstitutional policy of the lapd.

if they do not, the voters of this city will take action to eliminate these outrages.

in the absence of some showing of an immediate physical danger to the public, no arrests should be made and no bail required until both sides have had an equal opportunity to present evidence to a grand jury of citizens, the composition of which must reflect the ethnic diversity of this city.

yes, we will need more grand juries. however, there will be plenty of volunteers since the lapd and the so called justice system of the city and county of los angeles have screwed up royally for many years now.

mark sanchez has a record of being a fine student athlete with a fine character. is a decision by the la da not to prosecute going to erase the stain on his character?

absolutely no, no more than such an action is going to get out of long jail sentences the thousands of mark sanchezes who get arrested every single day, cannot put up the bail, cannot afford an attorney, and end up pleading guilty to things they did not do on the recommendation of an la county public defender.

anyone who doubts that this is the way the la criminal "justice" system operates on a daily basis should take the time to sit in on a few criminal proceedings at the la county courthouse near lax at which the la da's office and most of the judges simply rubber stamp the reports of the lapd.

the ordinary citizens of la county never get the benefit of any investigation by the la da or any opportunity to present their side of the story.
