Out For The Season

| | Comments (5) |

Safety Will Harris will miss the season after tearing knee ligaments for the second time (full details in today's Daily News).
Harris got hurt playing basketball, which is reminiscent of former tight end Dominique Byrd breaking his kneecap right before his junior year in a pickup game with Mike Williams.
It's a position USC can absorb losses. Freshman Antwine Perez will replace Harris as the backup free safety behind Josh Pinkard and recruit Taylor Mays is also waiting in the wings.

this should not affect the team much. they still have Perez, Pinkard, Mays and the kid who got hurt at the ASU game last season.

Do you really think that the position can "absorb" losses just like that? Yeah, Pinkard is tough and experienced, but having to count on true freshmen - even talented ones - is hardly ideal, is it?

What a joke! How can Coach Carroll tolerate this crap?

I understand that Coach Carroll allows kids to play other sports, even as recreation. It used to be coaches hated kids to play other sports. Now coaches look at the benefit of "cross training" if you will. Pick-up basketball players are sort of an injury prone however. Tough call. Maybe kids have to learn to reign it in.

It's bad news when ever youlose a kid to injury... but Saftey is one postion the Trojans can handle the loss of... yeah Perez is a Freshman... but you also have to consider that Perez isn't your average kid coming in... he's a STUD.. and he's already been through spring camp... and will be ready to start in the fall.. I am also eager to see Taylor Mays in action.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
