Spanos Ineligible

| | Comments (5) |

Offensive lineman Matt Spanos is academically ineligible for next season. He can practice but cannot play in games and summer school will not rectify the problem.
Spanos was considered a possible starter at guard before being held out of the last part of spring practices because of academic problems.

What a freakin' moron. He has qualified before. His academic problems isn't an issue with playing catch up, it's are just plain laziness. It's not like Spanos was just unplugged, languishing on the sidelines. And he was given time from practice to focus on his work.

Is 'SC going to have to go to the old days when someone was appointed to wake O.J. up and force him to go to class and study sessions?

Maybe we should adopt the Southern football traditions and get rid of these real classes for our athletes. Maybe we can do like Miami and claim that a dozen students are dyslexic and need someone to help take their notes and type out things that "get mixed up". Heard that served Portis really well.

maybe the school gets rid of these guys and stops wasting time and energy on them. there has to be motivated athletes who want to do what it takes to play for usc. why would the school/carrol want people who can't show up for the program??? these are not "A" players.

I agree with Steve. Motivation makes a above average players great, and lack of it makes great ones mediocre. Writers keep pointing to other schools that went on to slide after reaching the top like USC; perhaps it was from being too focused on getting the top recruiting class in terms of athleticism, not mixed with brains. Smart players (e.g. Leinart who was not expected to be a Heisman winner out of high school) are much more successful than dumb or lazy ones.

Tough crowd. Geez, one kid out of 67 doesn't qualify and he's under the bus. I say, FIGHT ON Matt and don't give up.

Work hard in the library, in class, and with Coach Carlisle and you've got one more shot at it next year. Make it count, kid!

IdiotRon,

Another moronic message. "Work hard in the library ..." Are you kidding me? What library?!?!? Does he know where any of them are?

Who's dumber? You or Spanos?

Attending USC on a football scholarship is an incredible opportunity and practically a gift from God, and he has messed it up. But, you will always be there to make excuses for the players, coaches and academic advisors after they screw things up.
