The Clausen Effect?
There’s been an assumption that quarterback Jimmy Clausen’s commitment to Notre Dame would automatically lead to a follow-up commitment from his teammate at Oaks Christian High, tailback Marc Tyler.
But my sources at Oaks Christian tell me Tyler says he will not go to Notre Dame and did not enjoy his visit to South Bend last month, when Clausen famously announced he would play for the Irish at the College Football Hall of Fame.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis visited Oaks Christian last week but sources say Tyler currently favors USC.
For what it’s worth, USC is recruiting safety Marshall Jones as hard as any player on the Oaks Christian team, including Clausen.

Marc Tyler didn't like his visit to ND because of the nagging questions from the ND coaching staff about his grades.
“I’m 70 percent sure I’m going to commit to Notre Dame, said Marc Tyler (6-0, 214, 4.55) of Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, Calif. “Jimmy (Clausen) committing there is definitely a big influence in my decision. It would be great to play together in college.
“My dad (Wendell Tyler) really liked what he saw. He liked Coach Charlie Weis and the whole atmosphere there a lot. We had a great time. We went all around the campus and signed autographs for about three hours. Then after Jimmy’s press conference, we all went to a pre-game thing before the spring game and took pictures with 10 other All-Americans…then we went to the game. It was really cool.
Maybe he had a change of heart, but to say that he didn't enjoy his visit is simply inaccurate information.
Typical Domer response. Whenever anyone has a change of heart about ND, it's a grade issue.
Couldn't be that someone simply doesn't want to play for the Irish, could it?
Nice! Indiana is like Panama in April and May; it rains every day. That's why the "Breadbasket of America" is good for growing corn, bad for recruiting Southern California high school football players.
Already the Domers are saying, "Oh well, he couldn't have qualified anyway." Meaning of course that they'll need to pay a nickel to the ucla bruins, who have copyrighted the phrase.
IdiotRon,
Maybe Tyler just wasn't interested in having to flip a football after scoring a touchdown to a guy who is responsible for Phillip Woldemariam not being on the planet anymore.
And I'm certain that he considers a guy like Wendell Tyler to more of a "hero" than a guy who is responsible for Ronald Goldman not being on the planet anymore.
Keep those cute messages coming!
Folks who actually went to Notre Dame: Nice people and for the most part, very knolwedgable football fans, much more so than Bruin fans.
It's the nutcase subway alumni types who use the grade issue, which is ironic since most of subway alumni wouldn't be allowed to sweep floors at ND, let alone be accepted as a student.
I wonder how firm Clausen's commitment to Notre Dame would be if Sanchez was out of the picture at USC. I'm sure the Trojan quarterback situation had a lot to do with his decision to become a Domer
It is hilarious to read the SC apologists criticize Notre Dame fans. These are the same people who coveted Clausen and then trashed him when he did not commit to SC. Hypocrites.
Wow, it looks like I've made a little friend. F-Dog follows me around on every thread calling me an idiot. It's like having my own puppy.
Well that post by "Lance Mannion" was a while back... I recently read an article a couple of weeks back (May 10 on Scout.com) that Mark had a change of heart... and is in fact as Scott reported leaning heavily towards going to USC.
With all the RB committments from last year, do we really need to add more to the mix? Remember, B Green is already verbaled to USC for this year. How does this Marc Tyler kid stand up to last years committments?
IdiotRon,
That's right pal! When you step out of line and stupidly proclaim Snoop Dogg to be a "hero" ... all in the name of the almighty United Kingdom of Carroll, I'll be there to slap you silly and keep the slapping going.
F-puppy, let me know when you start slapping me silly, and I'll be sure to scratch behind your ears. I'm still laughing over the thread under "More Punters."
When you come up with anything other than the canned bruin-in-a-corner response (tilt...OJ!...tilt...OJ!), be sure to IM me.
Did Daddy not love you enough?
IdiotRon,
We've got no problem with the Juice over here. At least his murder (oops, sorry, murderS) had a purpose. And he didn't settle out of court like your "hero" Snoop, who didn't even have the balls to fire the gun. O.J. stood trial TWICE, like a man.
By the way, I'm still laughing over "More Punters" too. We agree!
Keep burning those timeouts Pete!
Glad to see we have children interested in our local college football programs. Where do you two want to go to school when you grow up? With all the unwarranted bashing of Clausen, Szakasy, Corp, et. al., it's nice to see a good cat-fight between kids.
Marc Tyler had a conditional offer to ND, meaning it was contingent on his spring semester grades showing drastic improvement. In his own words, he was a 70% ND lean right before he received his final grades. Immediately after he received his grades, he changed his mind and is now reportedly a USC lock. You do the math.
It's too bad, because he would have made a damn good linebacker at ND, and boy do we need solid linebackers.
And no, he will not play runningback. Sure, he can power through the frontier league's 5'6" Jewish kids, but he's not particularly strong or fast. He's the classic "tweener" tailback, and would thus make a perfect linebacker.

Are those the same 5'6" Jewish kids that make Clausen look like the next Ron Powlus?
The grades issues are total B.S. Notre Dame has offered at least three kids in this class with GPAs of 2.8 or lower: Mullin, Olsen, and Tyler. Mullin (2.5 GPA) and Olsen (2.8 GPA) are Irish locks.
Notre Dame has repeatedly mentioned in print, that absolutely nothing has changed about the type of student athlete that they recruit in the last forty years and that includes two known Prop 48 football players from the 1980s.
If the NCAA clears them and they have their 14 core courses they are in like Flynn.
Maybe that is why Notre Dame's football APR according to the NCAA puts them in the 20-30th percentile of all Div 1 athletic programs while it lags the APR of all other Irish athletic programs and partially explains why the domers are graduating only 77 percent of their football players according to the NCAA even though no underclassmen are entering the NFL.
Boston College not only graduates a higher percentage of football players, but they beat Notre Dame on the field and they actually win their bowl games.
