Basketball Recruiting

USC’s first commitment of the summer will probably be from center Mamadou Diarra, a native of Mali who attends Stoneridge Prep in Tarzana. He is ranked No. 26 by Rivals.com.
Artesia forward James Harden stopped by USC this week. He is currently ranked one of the top 40 players in the nation by Rivals. But Arizona State might be the frontrunner now that his high school coach, Scott Pera, will be an assistant with the Sun Devils.
Another player that highly intrigued USC, forward Austin Daye of Woodbridge High, committed to Gonzaga two weeks ago.
The real anticipation, however, will be to see if O.J. Mayo, the No. 1-ranked player in the nation, is serious about his interest in USC. Mayo, of North College Hill High School in Cincinnati, listed USC among his top choices recently.
Mayo’s teammate, forward Bill Walker, is ranked No. 2 by Rivals and compared by some to Vince Carter. They could be a package deal and would shake up the recruiting world if they committed to USC.

That would be something, wouldn't it? A number one recruiting class in B-Ball...

But, I read that OJ Mayo said that that quote was taken out of context. Something along the lines of 'I just mentioned the school's name along with a lot of others and all of a sudden they're at the top of my list...'

We'll see. If he's even interested enough to make a trip out here and having everyone wondering, it will be a very good start for Floyd and Co.

Fight On!

MAYO that would be awesome. We would flip the college basketball world upside down.

Just getting Mayo, the top recruit in the nation, to consider USC is one of the greatest accomplishments for Floyd.

..and to think he's visiting right now...

let's cross our fingers on this!

Scott Wolf

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
