He didn't win the 100 meters at the state finals but tailback Jahvid Best of Salesian of Richmond, Calif., has been offered a scholarship by USC.
Best averaged 10.43 yards per carry and gained 1,432 yards with 16 touchdowns last season while leading his school to the North Coast Section Class A championship.
He can play tailback or wide receiver.

anyone remember Reggie's 40 yd times compared to... say Justin Fargas, etc., and would Reggie have qualified to be on the 'SC track team?

The amount of speed Carroll is assembling is absoutely sick. First Holland and Patterson. Now he's trying to get Vereen and Best. You gotta love it, Trojan fans. Speed kills. I'd venture to say this team, in a year or two, will have more speed than some teams in the NFL.

Sounds like a very nice player... but I also hope the scholarship offers for Jordan Campbell and Malachi Lewis are also on their way... Campbell is one kid who really want to be a Trojan in the worst way... and his skill level, attitude, and athletic ability would be an awesome asset to add to SC's already talented roster... as for Malachi Lewis he's not just a big back... he's a huge back.... imagine Eddie George on fast forward... he can also play WR and has the Size to be a sick pass cathing TE!

Jonathan Pong,

Even if SC gets all the recruits you mentioned, SC will not have more speed than even the slowest team in the NFL. It's just a different level. Don't be foolish.

I don't know Tom... Guys playing football tend to get a little slower but much bigger and stronger as they get into a few years of the NFL. A lot of these guys peak in terms of speed as they leave college and spend a year or two of physical pounding and a much longer/harder schedule. Only pro track athletes stretch out their speed to their mid to late twenties or in exceptional cases early thirties. (More often it is their form and training getting better as their natural speed levels and declines by the mid- twenties.)

Oh, to be 20 again!

Second player from Salesian. Eddie Gutierrez played linebacker in the middle 70's, but he was from Salesian - Boyle Heights.

The recruiting just keep coming. My 0.02 prediction is that by Nov, we will all be saying; Matt who; Bush who. This team could be better than last year team! The first two game will tell the story.

Fight On!
