Final Four

There’s about four incoming freshman still considered on the borderline academically as the August deadline approaches. One of those still trying to meet all academic requirements is wide receiver Vidal Hazelton, who was first identified in February as one of the at-risk freshman.

this is why UCLA didn't go after VH.

Rick said:

Ironic if Vidal Hazleton doesn't qualify after the protracted saga with his recruitment. VH not making it, would be a big disappointment for SC, as he was slated to take the Steve Smith role in 07.

john said:

What caused UCLA to not go after him was the fact that he did not want to hear from them. You might be surprised to learn most kids out of state do not regard UCLA as much right now.

John Wilson said:

No ucla did not go after him because they did stand a chance.

David said:

Just guessing but Vince Joseph from LB Poly, Jamere Holland from Taft, and possibly Patterson from LB Poly could be the other 3.

That doesn't hurt USC. They are still very deep at wide receiver and in the secondary as well.

Slated for Steve Smith's role in '07? Where did that come from? There are at least six other receivers vying for that role.

your guess is wrong david

Jaxon Jaxoff...hmmm...

We all an appreciate your support for the Bruins, but to even suggest that Vidal Hazelton and UCLA were in the same conversation is ridiculous.

That's like you saying that you almost went out on a date with Catherine Zeta-Jones, but didn't pursue it because she was already married.

Or that you almost bought a Porsche, but didn't because you thought it might make you pretentious...lol...

way to recruit some more criminal/dumb/thug/gangbanger-types. Flunk On!!

RD said:

The other 3 aside from Hazelton are McCoy, Wright, and Holland.

McCoy and Wright are supposedly in, and Holland got the grades he needed.

All 3 should be in, but as we know the clearinghouse isn't always in agreeance.

IF USC LOSES VH, IT JUST MIGHT BE FOR 1 OR 2 YRS?? THE DEPTH AT WR IS VERY EXCITING...THE REAL NEED FOR THE TEAM IS AT "OFFENSIVE TACKLE".. PETE LOST SOME REAL FINE OL CRUITS AND NEEDS TO REALLY FOCUS ON THIS POSITION...THE OL LOOKS TO LOSE HERRING AND SPANOS IS ACADEMIC CASUALTY--

Scott,

Please ask Pete Carroll why he offers scholarships to kids who will never get on the playing field. Or, if he is aware the kids must be accepted into the school in order for them to be able to play on the team.

george said:

Why would a blue chip out-of-stater take UCLA seriously? It's hard enough for a top program like USC to get players to come accross the country, as the VH saga showed.

Di said:

Jaxon, you're funny. UCLA did not recruit Hazelton, because they didn't feel they needed any 5-stars in their '06 class.

steve said:

ivan, you better be careful when you question David's positions, he gets very angry when you disagree with him.

lbshaw said:

Both Rick and Dave are correct. Vidal, and most other top recruits, NEVER even considered UCLA. UCLA is not a recruiting power at this moment and with SC's dominance on the field and in recruiting...I don't know when that will change. Doesn't matter if they went after him or not.

Also Vidal WILL be taking over Steve Smith position in 2007. He'll actually see valuable minutes in 2006 ala Turner in 2005.

CSUFMatt said:

I'm surprised a Bruin will even show his face pubicly after that public abortion they suffered last year in the USC game. UCLA should learn their place in the pecking order, cough up their lunch money, and pray SC doesn't stuff them in a trash can again.

SOME FANS HAVE BERATED COACH PETE FOR STOCKING TOO MANY PLAYERS THAT WILL NEVER HAVE MUCH FIELD TIME.....THIS IS FALSE IN THAT A KID FROM H.S. CAN MATURE AND BECOME A TOP PLAYER AT USC... THERE HAVE BEEN SOME "WALK ON" PLAYERS WHO ALSO MADE IT?? RANKINGS IN H.S. GUARANTEE NOTHING WITH PETE.COMPETING AND HEART IS THE KEY TO PLAYING AT USC...

Ivan said:

steve I guess I should be a little more specific

"Just guessing but Vince Joseph from LB Poly, Jamere Holland from Taft, and possibly Patterson from LB Poly could be the other 3"

Joseph & Patterson have been practicing with the team & should qualify if they havent already

and Holland recently got his grades to qualify
he needs to be cleared via NCAA clearinghouse

Vh1 is the only ?

so like I said "your guess is wrong"

FIGHT ON!
