Legal Lesson

Everyone knows USC quarterback Mark Sanchez’s bail amount following his arrest on suspicion of sexual assault was $200,000.
Compare that to the case of Toby Moore, who barricaded himself in the basement of USC’s North Gym two weeks ago with a loaded gun. Moore was arrested and released on $50,000 bail.
On May 30, Moore was arrested again for a misdemeanor crime. His bail? $1,000.

Guess it puts to lie all that hogwash about special treatmeant of USC athletes. With the arrest, the way the way the arrest was conducted, the info that was shared throughout the process- it seems that the the courts really stuck their foot up Mark Sanchez's ass, even with nothing to go on as far as EVIDENCE. I really suspect that there is a RACIAL component hear but I don't want to the kid to suffer from backlash at his own victimization so I'll leave it there.

and your conclusions are.........???

Seems like there is a lesson to be learned here for everyone involved. I am pleased that the City Atty will not prosecute the fake ID issue, but the incident should form the basis for some discussion between the athletic department heads, the coaches and the players as to why their "rape" seminars and other supposed counseling against reckless activity has not had a better effect.

These athletes, young or not, have voluntarily accepted a high profile - they need to be counseled on how to handle themselves in light of it. Maybe some changes are in order?

Excuse me?

I'm sure you intended to say that now that the allegations have proven to be false we need to question why those who make false allegations are not named in the press and expelled from U.S.C.

Folks, we must remember: The allegations weren't proven to be false. The DA's Office said it didn't have enough information to prosecute. ... Now, I sure as heck hope he did nothing wrong. ... But that is all that the DA's Office actually said.

in our judicial system, a person doesn't have to prove that he/she is innocent(that's the theory). the burden of proof is on the state/da's office. if the da didn't feel that he/she could produce the facts to support the allegations, then there is no crime and there are nothing but allegations. definiton of allegation
"to state as fact without proof" clearly the da could not produce the necessary proof to support the allegation. the allegation remain nothing but an unproven statement.....like the allegation/statement "the earth is flat"! just saying it doesn't make it so.......sorry

Sorry Scott to keep quoting the LA Times, but here goes:

"Helen Grieco, executive director of the California chapter of the National Organization for Women, wrote a letter to USC President Steven Sample and Carroll last month that called for the university to crack down on players' off-the-field behavior. "

"Informed of the district attorney's decision Friday, Grieco said she did not want to be "an armchair quarterback," because she did not know details."

"Given the incident level at that university, our message still stands: We want them to work seriously on prevention and a message of no tolerance," Grieco said. "I'm still very strong with my message to the university that we are still going to watch them."

NOW was very very responsible for all of the date rape laws in the 80's, and still have alot of political power. That's why the bail without even an investigation, and the "you are guilty first until proven" for the male.

You had to have grown up after the 80's (and been brain washed by a liberal California school system) to see this as anything other as a he said vs she said, with both parties equally at fault.

Fight On!

BTW, I also believe that USC did take the proper actions in this case. Even I can't figure what NOW wants. Maybe a male free world?

I wonder what type of suspension Sanchez will get for the drinking, fake ID, etc....... I hear 2 games? Also curious what Rhomar will get at OU after his 2nd drinking incident at the Mav/ Suns game last week. Since OU plays at Oregon 3rd game of the season I doubt he misses that one.
