Off The Team
About two weeks ago, I heard Whitney Lewis was no longer on the football team.

But this was not a usual case of someone transferring and caused some consternation within the football program, so I waited to see if things changed before writing about it. There were some off-field issues also involved.
I would say Montana State is a likely destination, however I hear coaches there are not thrilled with Lewis after he contacted them in December and changed his mind about transferring.

Trojan for life, yes. Someone who is contributing to the team by being responsible, not yet.
With the reported issues of being out of shape, and not qualifiying academically he is shortchanging himself and the team.
Hopefully things work out. He was (and hopefully is) a tremendously versatile and gifted athlete.
Wait, there is some confusion. Is he or isn't he gone? You weren't really clear about "changing his mind".
Lewis was a waste from the start. He made it very clear he wanted to go to FSU with his buddy Booker. As a true freshman he arrives overweight and out of shape. That was all I needed to know. Not quite the statement you want from a top recruit. I knew it was just a matter of time before he became a never was. Ive said time and time again, Carroll needs to consider character in addition to talent.
I'm quite sure he (Pete Caroll) and most recruiters do. So do admissions folk; and not every kid, with all the recommendations and numbers turns out to be a star, whether in school or on the field. He may be a great young man all the same. Not like he hurt anyone except himself really...
