Another Interested Tailback

| | Comments (8) |

Moorpark High tailback Darrell Scott has expressed an interest in attending USC. Scott is just a junior but warranted a look for USC coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian in the spring.
What's interesting is whether Scott will be scared off by the commitment of Servite tailback D.J. Shoemate, who is also a junior. The Florida schools will also be after Scott, since he is originally from the Sunshine State.

Doesn't Shoemate also play cb, some wr and punt/kick off returner? If Shoemate is going to scare off a single person he'd scare off a team.

I think Shoemate is a WR.

Scott is a stud!!!! Talking to some coaches at Moorpark, they say he reminds them of Rusell White, and he was an awesome college RB. Plus he is only a junior. If this kid stays healthy, might be a good idea to offer him early to lock him up.

I believe there's a strong possibility that PC will use Shoemate as a RB and occasionally split him out a la Reggie. If Scott is not going to commit in fear of competing, he's not the type that we would want anyway. We bring in kids that crave competition and want to become the best among the best.

Shoemate is a beast. He just finished his sophmore year, which means that PC offered this fella when he was just 16 (or whatever age he is). He is going to be a junior, so he is class of 2008.

On WeareSC, they had pix of Shoemate. My god, he is huge. On offense, he is a receiver and RB. On defense, they said he plays DE...but at the college level he could probably be a LB,CB, or safety.

To let you guys know, the football forum said he looked bigger than Galippo..and Chris Galippo is the Number One defensive prospect for the Class of 2007 (number 2 overall in the country, behind Jimmy "I'm the next Ron Powlus" Clausen). Hell, number 3 overall is also a 2007 verbal commit, Marc Tyler. He's a monster!

But anyways, about Shoemate. He is currently 6'0 or 6'1 and he said it himself that he currently weighs 215 lbs, but that he will drop down to his playing weight of 205 lbs. before the season.

So if he's 215 lbs, he sounds like a good RB prospect or safety prospect, and an intriguing cornerback candidate given his size.

You have to assume he will arrive at SC in June 2008 around 215 lbs. at least, so that seems too big for WR??? Especially given S&C Coach Carlisle can turn skinny Jarrett into a beast!!! Did you see those yoked pix of Jarrett???

I sure hope the NCAA doesn't screw us like in 2004 with BMW...as we were boarding our plane to face VT they told us that BMW was ineligible! Here's saying that they screw us again...

with Coleman, Stafon, Moody, Tyler, B Green (assuming he sticks to committment), the back field is already set for yrs. what we really need is the big o line boys to block up front and open holes.

John Redcorn -

The NCAA did the right thing by denying BMW's petition for reinstatement. And, no, the NCAA didn't screw SC with the timing of their denial. Do you really believe that it was intentional by the NCAA? Do you know how paranoid that sounds? Have you thought about the logistics required to intentionally wait until the SC team was leaving to go to the airport? How on earth would the NCAA people know when SC's chattered plane was scheduled to depart?

If you go back, PC withheld Mike from practice for almost all of fall camp. That was the right move. BMW blew it by signing with an agent when he didn't need to. He made matters worse by taking a vacation (with private jet) funded by his agent AFTER he had submitted his request for reinstatement to the NCAA. It should have been no suprise that he was denied and therefore the timing of the denial did not matter one bit.

Simply put, Shoemate can do everything on the field; corner, safety, running back, wr, pr, kr.

I doubt Shoemate's verbal will keep Scott away at all.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
