Davis Honored

Former USC tailback Anthony Davis will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame next month.
He lost 60 pounds last time I saw him following gastric bypass surgery. Hopefully he won't be charging for autographs in South Bend at the ceremony.

Scotty, do you really need to throw the "last" zingers in your posts?

AD is a Trojan immortal.

Do you ever report anything without taking a jab or being a smartass

Scott: I think you are unfair to AD about the possibility of his charging for autographs. He has always been gracious with his time with our family and has always signed free of charge. Now, if he wants to stick it to Irish fans one more time in South Bend, more power to him.

Just thought i'd comment since nobody else has said anything about the last couple o' posts.

For the record: Anthony Davis routinely charges USC fans for autographs whenever USC plays Notre Dame at the Coliseum.

I have personally witnessed AD charging for autographs before home games. Along with Charles White. They set up a booth outside the stadium at the Peristyle end. Never bothered to find out how much they ask.

The USC athletic department, guys like Leinart and Bush and just about every other pro athlete, especially the retired ones, charge for their autograph. Was it neccessary to take a jab at AD?

Long live Anthony Davis. I'll never forget watching the game live when he single-handedly destroyed the Irish defense on nat'l tv. If he wants to charge $ for autographs, good for him. He earned it.

what's the going rate?????

How much could you get for your autograph Scott. He may charge before the ND game, but I have seen him at the Spring Game,Rose Bowl and many other events talking with fans and giving autographs for free.

Bob said:

Its one thing for current pro athletes making millions charging for autographs. But I think it is totally different for older athletes that didn't make all that much when they played to charge. Wolf why are you so bitter???

I have seen both Davis and White charging $10 for autographs many times on campus. They look good on my wall by the way.

Everybody chill out - that was funny Scott.

Who cares Scott? He didnt exactly have a long career in the NFL and they werent exactly millionaires back then either.

A few questions ...

Did Morley Drury or Mort Kaer ever set up a table outside the Coliseum to charge for autographs? How about Erny Pinckert or Orv Mohler? Surely Cotton Warburton could have drawn a crowd and made a few bucks. If not, how about Gifford, Sears, Jaguar Jon, Iron Mike, Cunningham, Swann or Lott?

The best question is ...

Has anyone EVER seen anyone BUT Anthony Davis and Charles White setting up shop outside the Peristyle?

Answer ...

Nope.

Don't make excuses for the man. He has to do what he has to do. End of story. Pay/donate if you want. But please don't make excuses for the man.

its called a residural...after all, sports are the best, consistent form of entertainment available, and the athletes are the actors in the play....just like mel, tom, angelia, brad, and meryl get their checks in the mail, AD chooses to interact with his fans his way........quite frankly, whether he charges or not is none of anyone business!!! if you can't pay then don't bother the man!!! contrary to popular belief, we're not entitled to anything....and that means you!! just be thankful that AD played for usc and not for nd.

I was at SC during the AD years and at the incredible 1974 SC/ND game. No one had ever seen anything like that game until 2005's SC/ND showdown and, then, the Rose Bowl.

However, AD excelled not just in the Notre Dame game, but throughout the season. If he charges a buck for an autograph, more power to him. At least he shows up, and continues to support the school and the program. Let's hope Matt, Reggie and the bunch follow suit.
