Football Fast

Every summer, there's a freshman who impresses people with his performances in 7-on-7 drills. This year, it's Long Beach Poly wide receiver Travon Patterson, makes up for his small size with speed.
``Some guys are fast but not necessarily football fast,'' USC coach Pete Carroll said. ``He's just as fast on the field and his speed really adds something to our team.''

Hopefully we will see him returning kicks and punts this year

Yeah, some kids seem to be a waste of speed. You need speed for many positions but you STILL need more than speed. There are receivers that can't seem to learn to use their speed (and technique) to avoid jams, won't learn to run routes, etc; punt returners that won't look to see the field. There are corners that get twisted around; safeties that over run plays or read them late. On top of that coaches have been relying on inaccurate measures like the forty for years. By all accounts Travon Patterson is legitimately fast as a 10.5 100 meter sprinter and polished enough to use it.
