Jarrett Update

USC submitted the paperwork to the NCAA seeking reinstatement for wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett, who was ruled ineligible because of his living arrangement with former USC quarterback Matt Leinart.
Pete Carroll remains confident Jarrett will not miss any games. Jarrett needed to repay Leinart's father about 10,000 in backrent, because Leinart's father paid a portion of their rent at a luxury downtown apartment.

Comments

Does anyone know when the NCAA Nazis will make a decision?

Or will they pull a "cabbage inspection" and just take their time until after the first few games have ben played?

Fight On!

It would be nice if people stopped calling Jarret's apartment with Matt Leinert "luxury." I think people around the country think this far worse than it sounds because decent two bedroom aparments in most college campuses would rent for under a thousand dollars. At USC that figure is normally over three thousand for a secure place. The press keeps making it sound as though they were renting something way over the top and it simply isn't true. Knowing what those apartments go for make the arrangement all the less meaningful.

G,

Leinart and Jarrett lived in a penthouse suite at the Medici in Downtown LA. I would classify that as being "luxury" in every sense of the word.

Ha ha ha.....cheat on! just wait until the ugly reggie bushgate deal unfolds about mid season. I am betting on atleast one more scandal before the Arkansas game. 3,000 a month for an apartment in south central is luxury. What do places go for in compton? 300/month? The fall of troy is here!! oh yeah, nice showing in the rose bowl...choke on!!you will get your 3 pete after the Nebraska game....3 losses to start 2006. University of Sexual Criminals

Wouldn't this whole thing be avoided if Jarrett simply said he was subletting from Matt? Matt would be free to sublet a portion of his apartment to anyone, at any rent. Then Matt's Dad would be out of the picture. How would the NCAA be in a position to question the value of the portion of the apartment which Jarrett rented? Would $650 be about right for renting one bedroom? Too little? Too much? I dunno.

G - if you've seen the apartments, they are the ones on the corner of Cesar Chavez(Sunset) and Figueroa. Lousy area, great brand new units.

Man, the area around SC and south has skyrocketed, value and development wise. I hope the school is heavily invested. If Pres Sample didn't he should be held criminally negligent.

And yeah, that is simply an apartment in a gated complex downtown, which is still far from some great luxury. Downtown is afterall, still a work in progress even with all the development,(said Gruffy the Skid Row bum.)

In short, Jarrett is being shafted by the ever capricious, NDAA.

miguelito - what kind of moron are you? First of all, Compton is 14 miles away from the USC campus. And for good measure, only 20 miles from UCLA and Beverly Hills. What the heck does it matter how much an apartment is in some foreign part of town? Did you know apartments are $400CAD in Edmonton, Alberta? $3000 a month is luxury for a lot of people no matter where it is. However, $3000 a month in New York is pretty damn good, foo. Since I'm going to assume your assanine remarks are from your being a bRuin, going 12-0 to make it to the Rose Bowl and lose by three is a season ending disappointment for USC fans. Getting your ass whipped by Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl (non championship game) and then in the SunBowl two years in a row is considered a freaking success in Westwood.

Hey pigsmom,
Im a Texas fan and we kicked your ass!!! How do you like that one, it sounds like you have an obsession with UCLA. Oh yeah, they will probably kick your ass this year too. Have fun with the sanctions!! By the way, I would like to point out that UCLA beat you guys 8 years in a row not too long ago (a record for the series I think). Last time we played them they put a whooping on us, last time we played you.....you know the story. Choke on!! Rape on!! Cover up on!!

Good job owning up to the fact that you're an idiot. Your post had nothing to do with anything I said. Grow up you freaking juvenile. Winning by 3 with 12 seconds left is not what I would classify an ass-kicking. Don't even get me started on Oklahoma. Go die.

Miguelito...obviously you haven't heard about Ramonce Taylor and your other "gangstas"

Thug 'Em, Horns!...

we would also like to point out that you have won an NC once every 35 years or so....that's a wonderful average...

Once in a blue moon 'Em, Horns!

2003...Oklahoma 65, Texas 13
2000...Oklahoma 63, Texas 14

Gag 'Em, Horns!

miguelito, some of your texas boys are in jail as we speak, everyone has a rude awakening in store for them if they thank this run is over

Migsmom and everyone else with a brain, I'm sure we are all thinking the same thing.

Jarrett will be fine, just rough to have to come up with the money. I'm sure he'll cover his family's expenses once he's in the NFL.

And yeah, rents aren't THAT bad here in NY (where I am right now). Looks like rents in downtown and mid city LA are catching up, but I wonder how things are looking from close up.

I hear that the whole position of SC vis a vis public transportation and private development now is uneven. It will be another 5-10 years for a train, Sample wants a tunnel, USC has a land shortage to develop on and prices have skyrocketed with the reemergence of downtown and the Figeroa corridor. And now we can add the brutal negotiations with the Coliseum. The city, USC, MTA, developers, community leaders don't seem to be on the same page. Town and gown relations indeed...

USC alumni will stick by the school and work it out in the end. I'm just worried for now.

Fight On!

George Cooper, Fig and Cesar Chavez is the site of the greatest BBQ ever- The BBQ King. The sampler platter is the best, mkae sure to put bbq sauce on the fries. Oh and by the way, that is the Orsini Complex on the other Conner of Fig and Ceasar Chavez. I beleive the deloper G. Palmer was the devloper of the Medici and the Orsini. (BTW the Orsini II is going up across the street of the orginal.) The Medici is located on 7th street (two or three blocks) past the Citigroup plaza (has Golds Gym, Morton, Robinson May, CPK). I have walked around both the Medici and the Orsini and the Medici is in a much worse area. A couple more blocks west is McArthur Park. Have you ever been there? Score an id or other papels? I wonder how long miguelito would last there? Oh its also famous for starting a nice little clique you might of heard of. Any ways most renters at the Medici head East toward downtown or south to the Freeway. The other two directions, not so good if you dont know where you are going. Just asking, has anyone called around to see how much a two bedroom apartment is down Town. Promanade Towers, Bunker Hill, The Orsini, The Medici, the numerous lofts downtown, The MET, even the Skyline Terrace is exspensive. Before anyone gets excited about the rent just check a few places to see how much it cost for a two bed apt downtown. You find that the $3,000 does not get you very far...but dont take my word for it, if your reading this, open up yahoo and search for the apts listed above.

Amigolito,
most texas fans i met at the Rose Bowl had some class. No Bruins have class. Hence, you are a bRUIN

Hey TexASS MORON (miguelito)

3 point wins do not constitute a ass kicking.

Have fun waiting another 35 years before you become a meaningful program again.

Where da weed at?

How DO You DO??

This whole Matt Leinart - Dwayne Jarrett "thing," goes all the way back to the early 1970s when then USC head football coach, John McKay, sought NCAA permission to allow Pat Haden, a senior QB at Bishop Amat, to move into the McKay residence his last year at the high school because he parents were moving East (NYC I think). The NCAA allowed this because Pat Haden and J.K. McKay had grown up together and were life long friends. Not just like out of the blue coach McKay offered one of top high school QBs in the country a place to stay and thereby had big advantage to get Haden to agree to play college football at USC.

Fast forward to 2005: Matt and Dwayne had roomed together the year before, the best of friends, and were again roommates at the same apartment complex
on or near USC -- each paying $650 a month--at start of Fall, 2005. But Matt bothered so much by the press and others that his dad yanked him and attempted to find a more secure place where to live his last season at USC. The Medici already had other USC football players like David Kirtman and Greig Carlson. So...............

Unfortunately, apparently about the only unit then available was the most expensive penthouse which Mr. Leinart took, charging Matt $650, and being stuck for the rest.

Meanwhile, poor Dwayne Jarrett could not find another roommate to pay the other half of the $1,300 place he HAD SHARED with Matt. So Matt said "hey Dwayne come downtown and room with me anyway. My dad and I know you can only afford what we both have been paying in the past ($650), but if you don't come over and still room with me, my dad out this $650 amount. So come and room with me and help defray my dad's monthly rent payments."

Dwayne apparently only used the one bedroom, he never partook of the kitchen because he always ate at USC training table.

He ONLY moved into this "so-called" luxury place because (a)he could not afford to stay where he was since Matt had moved out and (b) he was doing Mr. Leinart a favor by lowering his monthly rent payments AND (c) he and Matt had been roommates the year before (just like J.K. McKay and Haden).

Somehow the stupid NCAA wants this to look like Mr. Leinart GIVING Dwayne Jarrett like $1,500 a month "under the table" to pay for his rent.

Actually, Dwayne doing Mr. Leinart a BIG favor by saving him $650 a month of the total rent.

Based upon the years of friendship between Matt and Dwayne, there really was no extra benefits here to Dwayne: he got to continue to room with Matt; he paid out his same $650 a month and there really was no "luxury" since he just used the extra bedroom--as he did before with Matt on campus.

It's ALL in how things look or perceived.

Miguelito = UTLA.

SC fans - think about this Bruin's fixation on SC. He posts on the SC beat writer's blog, pretending to be a fan from another school. He celebrates the success of another team. Success that his own team could not achieve. He is exactly why UCLA is the little brother of the rivalry.

Could you imagine a Trojan making posts on the UCLA beat writer's blog as a Gator? Impossble. to imagine. I guess that 66-19, 7 in a row, Karl Dorell, and football irrelevancy will do that to a person. Truth hurts.

Trojan Pal -

Do you really believe your post? It's the biggest homer spin I've read in a long time, particularly the claim that Jarrett was doing Bob Leinart a favor. It's so over the top that I wonder if it's tongue-in-cheek.

Of course Jarrett received extra benefits. He lived in the penthouse of a very nice building while paying much less than his proportionate share of the rent. That's the central issue of the situation and is not in dispute. Unfortunately for DJ, that is the very definition of extra benefits.

The fact the DJ was roommates with Leinart during the previous year is irrelevant. It doesn't change the fact that he recieved extra benefits in 2005. And, no, this situation is not allowed through precedent. Pat Haden's high school living arrangement is not the same situation as Dwayne Jarrett's college living arrangement. You'll notice, however, that McKay had the living situation approved by the NCAA before it happened. If Jarrett had informed the NCAA and sought approval before he moved into the Medici, things might have been different. Also, you're mistaken about the length of Leinart and Jarrett's friendship prior to moving into the Medici together. It was not "years" as you claim. It was two semesters. Not too long.

When Leinart decided to move into a guarded housing complex, Jarrett should have found a new roommate. If he had, then this problematic situation would never have arisen.

In your post, you write that "poor Dwayne Jarrett could not find another roommate to pay the other half of the $1,300 place he HAD SHARED with Matt." What are you basing this claim on? Are you pulling that statement out of thin air? I think that you're fabricating that assertion. Using common sense, I think that a campus superstar like DJ would have no problems finding a roommate. It's not hard to find a roommate from a pool of 85+ teammates.

I'll speculate that Jarrett didn't look for a new roommate or try to find a studio apartment. I'll speculate even further that none of the people involved (Bob & Matt Leinart, Jarrett) probably considered the NCAA implications of the living arrangement until after the story broke about Bush's parents. Why would they? However, that doesn't change the fact that DJ broke the rules.

As far as the punishment is concerned, there are some factors that hopefully will weigh into the NCAA's decision-making process. First is Matt Leinart's unique celebrity status and his real need for security. Second, Jarrett paid rent. Third is the fact that Leinart's father offset Jarrett's rent, not an agent, etc.

I hope that the NCAA has the proper perspective of this minor issue. It seems like PC does, also. Hopefully it will work out for the best.

Miguelito; thanks for enlivening the discussion. It gets a little tedious reading about summer school updates. And I understand your pride. With all of the talent that Texas has squandered over the years and the millions of dollars paid to your athletes under the table, finally catching Oklahoma in a down year and sliding past SC must feel pretty sweet. Enjoy!

To that jabroni named Miguelito:

You must be a bRuin fan, because if you were from Texas, you wouldn't have been shy about saying so.

"U. of Sexual Criminals"? It's "South Central". Get it right! And at least we didn't have an American terrorist go to our school (Timothy McVeigh).

May Karl Dorrell be coach at UCLA forever! Our winning streak against the Baby bRuins will go to at least 20. Fight on! Keep laying the smack down on those bRuins like Joakim Noah did.

Miguelito, Miguelito, Miguelito, you are a disgrace to The Texas Longhorns.......I was born in Texas, moved and raised in So.Cal and graduated from SC. So my heart was split between the Horns and the Trojans on January 4. I stayed with my Trojans but had the best time that day meeting, BBQing and mingling with REAL Texas fans. They were the most polite, gracious people i have ever encountered as an opponent. ( I have been a SC fan since 1972) I still love both the Horns and the Trojans. Seriously, C'mon, a come from behind win by 3 points in the last 12 seconds ??? an Ass Kicking? Even the true Texas fans know better. The heart rates of many Horns fans were racing those last 12 seconds........Vince is gone, and so are the Horns chances of ever repeating this decade. The Trojans have reloaded and are ready to challenge again...... So come out of the closet now and show your true colors,,,,baby blue and gold......you "wanna be" Horns/bRuin fan.
PS Texas has its share of Felonns , dont kid yourself....

And not to worry, Miguelito -- it'll be 8 in a row the other way this year. Maybe your sports information director can announce attendance at 88,088 again, Jackass.

Ok, to shut up the Muiguelito's and Bruin fans out there (both closeted or otherwise), if we catastrophically happen to go 1-11 (which we won't), we better hope that 1 win is against the gutty little Bruins. Otherwise, they'll lord it over our heads that they own the longest winning streak in the rivalry. This year if we win, we tie the 8. We have to do it at their place. Never count any chickens, as the old expression says. Since it's the last game of the season, not only will bragging rights be in play, but hopefully for SC a BCS bowl berth. That should be enough motivation for "the fellas," as Vic The Brick would say.

Back on topic: I think Bob Leinert's actions were, albeit unbeknowingly, an undue benefit to DJ and would constitute some kind of action. I mean, if you're another player on the team and you're living at Men's Residence West (nothing against that dorm by the way), and you come to practice and hear about two of your team mates living in a penthouse??? That just doesn't sit well, I think. I don't care how many flashbulbs are going off in ML's face -- hey, price of fame, baby. Deal with it.

SC's only hope here of not losing DJ for a few games is for the NCAA to realize he was a victim of the silver spoon lifestyle of his roomate.

Oh, one more thing -- Northwestern fans, in my experience, were the nicest of all I have encountered in the Rose Bowls I attended. Michigan fans were the worst, right behind the Ruin -- I,mean -- Bruin fans. And the Texas fans were alright, too.

"Miguelito"....To still be called "little Michael" at your age...it must not be your stature because if it is, then you're just a little punk. You could however still be a mommas boy and that could fit....either that or it's something else that may give people, probably your women, enough reason to still call you "little Michael"

Miguelito is a real tool.

scott,

pete carroll has his usual response- no big deal. jarrettwill not even miss one game.

if pete had read the ncaa rules and taken them seriously, usc football would not have had to fly through all of these recent and coming scandals, including jarrett and bush and many more to come.

if pete and his crew did read the ncaa rules aqnd the recent ncaa sanctions against schools breaking the extra benefit rules in ways extremely similar to the jarrett case, they would know that the ramifications are not just personal to jarrett. they affect usc football institutionally.

st john's ny basketball had to forfeit every game in which the ineligible player in question played and pay back the revenues from participating in the big east post season, in addition to other sanctions.

the usc institutional issues come after the ncaa deals with the jarrett individual issues.

speaking of ncaa violations, i am happy that whitney lewis found a home. his usc experience certainly was a disaster for him and for usc.

pete carroll recruited him because he was the no 1 ranked wr in the us in 2002 and ca mr football with 5 stars from rivals and scout.

during his 1st year, pete burned a year of eligibility moving him around from position to position.

then, pete's standard failure to watch the academic progress of his players kicked in and poor whitney was academically ineligible for 2004.

in 2005, pete burned another year of eligibilty by using whitney to block in passing situations, not one pass went his way.

the chauncy washington story is a fine story, involving academic issues that should have been taken care of before chauncey even got to usc.

other pete carroll recruits, such as mozique mccurtis, endedup at fancy jr colleges to catch up on academics before usc.

mozique has been quoted in the press stating that pete carroll personnally took care of his recruiting and everything else.

the questions raised, of course, how did the guys at the jr colleges foot the biils? with respect to the academically ineligible usc football players who stayed at usc and continued their sudies, who paid for their tuition and other expenses? they were not eligible for athletic scholarships.

has pete neglected the rules again?

in this internet age, an awfull lot of things surface that could be hidden before. the 6/14/2007 issue of the ny time had a feature front page story on academic fraud at auburn entitled "top grades and no class time for auburn players"

it seems that a certain sociology professor arranged certain ghost courses for auburn football players and gave them great grades to make sure that they could keep playing football.

usc has already been whacked once by the ncaa.

for the sake of pete carroll, the new usc needs to appoint a monitor from its law school to read the ncaa rules and keep a close watch on pete carroll.

pete has used usc to make his fortune, after 2 dismal failures and firings in the nfl. does pete carroll really care what kind of mess he leaves behind for usc?

as dan greeenspan has so elegantly pointed out in the 4/26/06 issue of the daily trojan " usc is already at fault ", pete has run a very loose ship with usc football in the areas of ncaa rules and team discipline and checking on the academics of his 4 and 5 star recruits before they get blown out by the ncaa academic clearing house.

pete has won. however, what will the long run cost to usc of the mess that he has and keeps creating?

whenever anything negative comes out about usc football, pete runs to the administration and says that there are people after our program and we have to stick together.

it looks to me as if pete is the real problem and threat and that the new usc would be much better off without him.

a significant number of pete's 4 and 5 star recruits, who allowed pete to inflate his ego by claiming to have the no 1 recruiting class in the nation for several years have really had disterous experiences at usc.

whitney was the no 1 ranked wr receiver coming in in 2003. he never got any type of chance at usc. his promising career is probably ruined.

john david booty was the no 1 qb in 2003, but lost his chance when carroll pulled off that 2 unit ballroom dancing course scam to keep leinart at usc to fulfill carroll's ego's need for his so-called 3 peat, which did not work.

now, it appears that booty will never get a real chance to play.

2004 5 star no 1 ol jeff byer got thrown up against the starters much too early and ended up with hip surgery- another career ruined.

4 star qb michael coleman got converted to lb, thrown up against the starters too soon and also needed career ending hip surgery.

carroll got 4 star qb rocky hindsto sign with usc. when hinds decided to transfer, carroll fought him every step of the way, even though signing hinds was just to allow carroll to claim a no 1 recruiting class.

the broken bodies and ruined lives are scattered all over the place. sure, leinart, bush, and some others did well with the nfl.

however, those other guys could have started at other schools.

norm chow discovered mike williams and figured out how to use williams and bush. chow did a great job.

by the time texas came to town, carrollhad stockpiled more talent than any other schoolin the us.

usc did not lose to texas.pete carroll did with bonehead play calling and horrible defense.

word does get aroung among recruits about coaches who simply stockpile talent and throw in freshmen too early into situations in which injuries are virtually inevitable.

the writing is on the wall about carroll. there are plenty of usc grads who really love usc and who have excellent nfl coaching records.

it is up to the new usc to move on this problem before the damages become even more severe.

keep up the great work,

robert t. gilleran

Gilleran...back again eh? only this time you're using your real name again, instead of Miguelito or whomever...

I'm just too busy a man to counter all of that outlandish BS that you've just posted but will at least comment that Whitney's not being able to play at SC was his own fault, and same with Booty who's been injury prone alot, including his hand in earlier action....you have to be out of your mind if you think that a true freshman competing against starters is wrong. The nature of the game at SC is competition. These are big fast tough young MEN....injuries happen, programs like PCs do not coddle the freshmen, they give them the chance that they deserve by committing to this type of program. Competition breeds championships, the better the competition the more your program flourishes.

LOL. Robert Gilleran showed up again. I truly laughed out loud when I saw his name at the end of his post.

This guy CLEARLY has an anti-USC agenga and is CLEARLY fixated on USC.

For those who forgot, the last time this guy posted, he claimed that SC's incoming freshman academic casualties were far, far outside the bounds of other schools. I countered that it was about 5 athletes in five years, giving SC about a 95% success rate. Three of these athletes went to one high school, which makes me believe that the problem is with that school. All of these athletes ended up in Division 1. One of these kids ended up at a school that is more prestigious than USC, so I don't see where PC's mistake was there.

I gave Robert the opportunity to prove me wrong. I aksed him to provide a list of the names of recruits who were academic casualties. If what Robert claimed was true, there would be many, many names to choose from and my request could be performed very easily. This offer permitted Robert to back up his claim and make me look foolish. Of course, Robert declined. He was wrong and could not prove his point. He let desperate wishful thinking and hyberbole get in the way of the facts. Robert, just because you wish something to be true does not make it true.

Let's discuss his latest diatribe:

1. Robert writes "other pete carroll recruits, such as mozique mccurtis, endedup at fancy jr colleges to catch up on academics before usc.

mozique has been quoted in the press stating that pete carroll personnally took care of his recruiting and everything else.

the questions raised, of course, how did the guys at the jr colleges foot the biils? with respect to the academically ineligible usc football players who stayed at usc and continued their sudies, who paid for their tuition and other expenses? they were not eligible for athletic scholarships.

has pete neglected the rules again?"

To answer you question, Robert, Pete has not neglected the rules. Chauncey Washington lost his scholarship and had to take out student loans until he was academically eligible again. Please refer to the paysite articles for proof. Did you know that Chauncey took out student loans, Robert, or are you shooting your mouth off again without having command of the facts? Either way you make yourself look foolish again. I would think that with your so-called concern for the academic efforts of SC's football players you would have admired Chauncey's perseverance.

Re. Mozique McCurtis - your post makes it seem as if McCurtis was an SC recruit in high school who then went to a JC and later ended up at SC, as originally planned. If so, your assumptions are wrong again and your point is invalid again. SC recruits JC athletes, taking about one per class. I'll point out that SC takes far less JC trasnfers than Cal Berkeley. McCurtis was one such case. However, unlike Robert's insinuation, McCurtis was not recruited by SC out of high school. For proof, I point to the paysite interviews immediately after his verbal. Here is another opportunity to prove me wrong, Robert. I encourage you to search the archives. The irony here is that McCurtis was a hard-working student who graduated early by earning his AA in only three semesters. Given Robert's claim of concern for the academic performance of SC's football recruits, he should have held up McCurtis as an example of a situation gone well. Instead, he foolishly chose to make claims while ignorant of the facts. This is why he is not credible.

Re. Whitney Lewis - Sadly, Whitney is the biggest bust since Stan Guyness. One magazine ranked him in the top 10 all-time high school busts. Yet Robert is mad because h believes WL did not see enough playing time. I'll give you some background, Robert: Whitney came into camp his freshman year out of shape and with a bad attitude. He whined about not playing in his first game at Auburn. He was also outperformed on the field by Steve Smith. Yet this is unsatisfactory for Robert. I don't understand that. High school rankings mean nothing on the college football field. There is no entitled playing time. Would you rather have the better receiver sit, Robert, in order to placate Whitney? Wouldn't it be better if Whitney earned playing time? He also complains that Whitney's first year was wasted "moving him around from position to position." Robert - I ask you what position was Whitney moved to and from? He came in as receiver and that's what he played. Can you provide proof to back up your claims that he was switched from position to position?

Robert also cmoplains that PC plays too many freshman. LOL. This is one of the best and unique features about SC football: freshman have a chance to shine and play early. It reinforces the meritocracy of the program. Yet, this is unbsatisfactory for Robert. He cites the "career-ending" injury of Jeff Byers. Robert - did you know that next season Byers will be STARTING as a redshirt sophomore? Please explain to me how Byers can be starting next season if his injury was career ending? Is this another case of you making yourself look foolish by not doing your homework? I think it is.

He also points to "linebacker" Michael Coleman as another "career-ending" injury. Robert - Coleman is a RB, not an LB. You didn't know that. Again, your facts are wrong on the most basic level. You clearly don't know what you're talking about. Please refer to the official roster if you dispute my claims. Another question, on what basis are you making the claim that Coleman's injury is career-ending? According to the reports, his rehab is going fine and he is expected to contribute next season as a true sophomore. Do you have unique, inside knowledge of his medical condition that the coaching staff does not? Likely it's another case of your dumb hyperbole.

Next is Rocky Hinds. He transferred and Robert is upset about that. Here's the background on that situation: the coaching staff at SC felt that UNLV's staff had broken NCAA rules by initiating contact with Hinds while he was still a scholarship student at SC. That's tampering and is not allowed. They felt that allowing Hinds to transfer to UNLV would be rewarding bad behavior from both Rocky and UNLV. Were you aware of that, Robert? I don' think so.

Re. Leinart and Booty - Robert claims that PC "pulled off that 2 unit ballroom dancing course scam to keep leinart at usc." The decision to return to SC was Leinart's. He did it for two reasons:

1. He liked being at SC.

2. He needed time to repair and rehab his damaged throwing arm.

It wasn't clandestine maneuvering by PC. It was a 22 year old's choice. Ironically, that two unit dancing course helped earn Leinart his degree. Weren't you happy about that, Robert. You do want SC players to graduate, right Robert?

Last and most laughable is Robert's assertion that "now, it appears that booty will never get a real chance to play." Robert - did you not know that Booty is the overwhelming favorite to take the reigns from Leinert next season? When Booty starts, how is it possible that he will not get a real chance to play?

Lastly, he says that "usc would be much better off without (PC)." Finally Robert reveals his true wishes. He doesn't want PC coaching USC. Robert, what took you so long to admit it? It's been obvious since the beginning that's what you wanted. I don't blame you. Your team - whichever that may be - cannot beat SC. That must really sting. The best approach is to try to build up the quality of your team instead of trying to tear down your opponent.

Your approach is cowardly. Winning should be earned. Trying to tear down an opponent by throwing ridiculous accusations against the wall and seeing what sticks is a bad approach. Using it has made you look stupid. You have gotten the facts wrong over and over again. You have let hyperbole get in the way of common sense. You have clearly not done your homework. You clearly have an agenda. That is why you are not the person to discuss what's best for SC: you clearly don't want what's best for SC. Ironically, your desire for PC to leave SC is exactly why he should stay:

1. Pete Carroll is the gold standard for college coaches.

2. He is so good that other school's fans are afraid of him.

Thanks for the inadvertant compliment. SC is in dynasty-mode right now thanks to PC. Sadly for you, he's not going anywhere except the college football hall of fame when he retires.

One last parting shot - you mention "2 dismal failures and firings in the nfl." Are you in a position to make that sort of judgement? Remember you were disbarred for unethical conduct. Because of your shady behavior it is now illegal for you to practice law. Your professional shortcoming are far, far worse than Pete Carroll's. When he retires, he'll be a legend. When you retire, you'll just be another disgraced lawyer.

Ah Ha! The Affholter/Gilleran wars are back. This is even more fun than beating the bRUINS. I vote for Affholter in this round. (and all the previous rounds too)

OUCH!!!

Aftholder destroyed Robert T. Gilleran. That was one of the biggest pimpslaps I have ever read!

Fight On Aftholder!!!

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
