Jefferson On Hold

Former Lynwood High forward Davon Jefferson did not achieve the necessary test score last month, which means the earliest he could qualify for college would be December. In a best-case scenario, he would enroll at USC in mid-year.
Jefferson also needs to complete additional academic work besides his test score.

Disagree with the best-case scenario. There isn't going to be an athletic scholarship available mid-year (spring semester). It was recently reported that even with the current signing of Kyle Austin, they're still one scholarship over the limit. I seriously doubt he's going to pay his own way for a semester. If he can improve his academic issues and eventually qualify, looks like he might be joining the O.J. Mayo, Bill Walker, Aaron Pogue, Mamadou Diarra, class of '07.

Looks like even Orange Juice and Mayonaisse will not right the USC basketball ship for a few years. Too bad, too. I was pretty hopeful they would be a top team soon.

Scott Wolf

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
