Reed Update
Tailback Desmond Reed is not cleared to practice but USC coach Pete Carroll is hopeful Reed will be able to play.
"He's trying to come back," Carroll said. "He's not cleared but he's doing some sprinting and other stuff."
One problem is the nerve damage Reed suffered when he tore knee ligaments is still an issue.
Its a real shame USC cant find a decent Special Teams coach. If they could, Dez wouldnt be in the spot he is. Everyone wants to blame his injury on the ND grass. What a joke! Dez is hurt because no one taught him how to properly field a KO. Period.
And turf toe happens because guys fail to grease their feet... High grass is dangerous/injury causing, full stop. That said, the idea was not to hurt anyone I'm sure, just gamesmanship gone awry or maybe just one of those injuries that happen. Somehow USC has had some of the best return men in recent history but they never learned to field a KO properly. There are definitely problems on special teams but what you said was waaay out.
Hey tommys-bro, good insight. Sprinting / Rushing is all about technique. After that type of knee surgery, it's extremely difficult to maintain the stress put on by the lateral moves & stops of someone like Desmond. He'll probably have to adjust his running style and thus he'll become a different back now. Let's hope he's still effective, he's a true Trojan.

USC_89 take your meds and come back to earth.....anyone with eyes and a brain know what happened to Dez. The Grass was too damn high and he got his feet muddled in the muck. Funny that Dez never displayed his lack of KO return techniques prior to this incident huh? C'mon, all the palyers were talking about how bad it was trying to move around at full speed in that jungle. Yeah I know ND had to play in it also, but SC relies on the explosive speed they have. ND has big lumbering fellas while SC had the Gazelles. The grass took that aspect away and added a injury factor to boot.....SC knows how to field a KO. and the other teams know that too ....Hm wonder what other clever tactics we will se from opponents to "limit" the Trojans on thier home turf next season??? maybe they can freeze the field in the winter, or put the heaters on during the desert games , hmm still time to plot there PAC 10 foes........the Boys are coming........FIGHT ON !!

Anyone can correct me if I am wrong here but, I believe that one or two of the Notre Dame players were also injured due to the high grass.
More importantly: This was obviously an intentional effort by ND and Weis, and it resulted in needless injuries. Dangerous to all of the players, and all of the teams.
What can be done to prevent such low class hijinks from occurring again? Isn't it a rule violation to deliberately allow hazards to exist on the field? It would have been different if it had rained, or snowed, and there was mud or ice. Not this.
