Speed Test

| | Comments (14) |

Summer workouts are killing USC coach Pete Carroll, because NCAA rules prohibit coaches from watching them. Specifically, Carroll would like to see his newfound speed, with Jamere Holland, Travon Patterson, Taylor Mays, Vincent Joseph and Taylor Mays among the swiftest of the group.
If nothing else, USC should be faster on special teams this season, which could be especially valuable on the punt team, where an untested punter will start the season.

Taylor Mays must be exceptionally swift; it seems he lapped the other three speedsters in that sentence and came up again- serious speed. I would like to point out Gable and Johnson are as fast as Mays and Joseph. One question I have is how fast are Moody and Hazelton? Others whose speed is unknown is Wright, Bradford, K Ashley, Rowe and Perez. Keep them coming though.

Pete must be as bored as me. July sucks! Golf and regular season baseball, bring on the season.

I'm a trojan stuck in the bay area. I must say this blog has made this summer go by faster and made the wack bay area coverage of steriod bonds; I mean Berry, less painful. I miss listening to Petro on the radio and the local coverage of sc.

I hope all the young talent embraces the tradition of going on the road and handing SEC teams their tails.

Up here they don't even talk about there college teams, only bonds.

Anyway I wanted to know two things about our team:
1. Is Desmond Reed health enough to play?
2. Is there going to be a Fall game for the public
in August?

Scott if you have a second can you let me know?

If I remember correctly Holland had the second fastest 100m time in the entire state this yr, 2nd only to R. Glass, who's going to Arizona(?). You know Carroll will line them up in pads to see who wins at game-speed. And you know this blog will have the answer on who's fastest. Every one of these studs would start anywhere else. That they come to compete among Champions shows that they have heart. They will not lose. They will forever... FIGHT. ON.

Marlon there is a free scrimmage at the Coliseum on Aug.20th at 7:45. Also the Salute to Troy is on Aug.18th. FIGHT ON!!!

the problem last year was not punt coverage it was inconsistent punting by Malone.

Marlon, there will be a scrimmage game in August for the public. From what I hear Desmond is participating in drills but is still considerably away from game-ready.

I always thought Travon Patterson was impressive in high school. His speed is elusive. Put him and Jamere Holland on kick returns and we have a lethal combo.

Trojan Fall Game is on Sun. Aug 20th @ 7:45 pm (preliminary announcement per D. Slutak)- could change though. Word is 7:45 is because the Arkansas game is a 7:45 game and they want to get used to the time. I think more than a few people will be tired come Monday morning.

David, Jamere Holland had the fastest time IN THE NATION this season. You may be speaking of a specific race. J-Mee Samuels of NC is the only person with a faster time for the past two years but he doesn't play football. Incidently, Jamere Holland beat J-Mee Samuels in what was billed as the "national championship race" for the fastest high school sprinter.

Dude, get that shit straight! Being the fastest kid in America is no easy feat. Sometimes football fans hear "speed" thrown out there o the point they can't discern significant differences.

Holland has consistently beaten Rod Glass (who is committed to ASU). This year Glass edged him out only because Holland was still recovering from injury. Holland has been and is faster and should be treacherous in the open field...providing he improves his "hands".

thanks guys for the fall game update. I will leave the bay soon to see my beloved team prepare for this season. I owe you guys some beers.

Anybody actually going to the Arkansas game?

When does the team start practicing offically this fall?

DAVID said:

DarrenR, I'm pleasantly surprised a healthy Holland has wiped the floor with Glass in the past. I was referring to a shitty L.A. Times story recently when Glass won, they spun it to look like he was the fastest guy in the world. With that kind of speed coupled with sticky fingers, this kid Holland could be a superstar.

Typical LA Times... Still it's incredible that most of the fastest kids in the country come from the same area, competing against each other. I think some purely football fans don't realize that California is THE dominant state for track. They don't make 'em like that down south or back east, at least wholesale. Regardless of that these kids get SO little credit in their back yard or from national scouts for their speed. USC is like a track all star team AND they are legitimate, rough and tumble football players.
