Depth Chart
Here's the first depth chart of the season from USC. Note that the depth chart offers a traditional 4-3 formation with Brian Cushing a reserve LB, but Cushing is expected to start at defensive end as the Trojans use four linebackers.

Did you get this from Carroll or is this your opinion?
Has anyone noticed that there are only 7 seniors in the three-deep? If this team doesn't win it all this year, look out years to come!
F.O.....................
I wonder why Stafon fell lower on the chart after starting out so strong in camp... is it the "maturity" question you brought up Scott? Or did the other backs just step up? I like how the coaches put the word "or" between so many running backs' names... it's still an open competition.
Reign On
I am glad to hear that the competitive juices are producing some great performances in practice. Coach Pete's mandate of putting the best players on the field, regardless of age, has raised the level of performance on the practice fields. As a result, it has produced some memorable performances on Saturdays and some championships.
Therefore, I'm glad Stafon Johnson has responded positively with a great performance, after dropping on the depth chart. I'm sure he has realized that being studious in the playbook is just as important as possessing the natural skills of improvising in the open field.
The only question I have in regards to the current depth chart is why the coaches have moved Allen Bradford to the TB position, unless it was to raise the level of play of the other TBs. Otherwise, I really thought the TB position was in good hands with the 3 other Freshmen, Chauncey & Desmond back. Also, I really think Allen Bradford can develop into our next great USC Safety, in the mold of Thurman, Lott, Polamalu and Bing. From what I read, Bradford destroys people when he hits them and is a very smart player. Actually, this crop of freshmen Safeties (Taylor Mays, Antwine Perez & Bradford) might be our best we have had at USC, since the 1977 freshmen class that produced All-American safeties Ronnie Lott & Dennis Smith.
Taylor Mays and Perez are out of position.
The one I'm most surprised about is that Jeff Schweiger is behind Kyle Moore.
I was at the Virginia Tech game, and Jeff Schweiger was a true freshman. He was a total terror, always in the backfield and always applying pressure to a great Hokie team. I thought he was going to be an unstoppable force up front for us.
Last year he didn't do so hot. I didn't think Kyle Moore was really anything special either (although he's was a true freshman). But now Moore is ahead of Schweiger, and Schweiger has more experience.
Man, I hope our D-Line really steps it up this year. We really have missed Sean Cody and Mike Patterson up front. I hope this "Elephant" defense is going to be another USC D that makes the QB run for his life.
IN PETE WE TRUST!!!
Maybe the Schwaiger thing is that he's not really responding to the coaching changes. Maybe Moore is just smarter or more adept. I've read somewhere in the past where Schwaiger has had issues with coaching, especially relating to Jethro. Schwaiger has also been injured alot. Whatever... I believe that they will challenge each othe competitively for their entire careers...which I doubt will be cut short by either of them leaving early.
Just a thought.
This is basically the same depth chart the day after the Rose Bowl with the exception of the or, or, or ,or, or, or, or. Lets wait until Pete names a starting lineup
