I don't know where Matt's head is right now being a rookie in the NFL and hanging with Paris and his Hollywood friends, but I hope he steps up to this resposibility.

Despite the contant rhetoric and backhanded humor that is constantly directed at him by Mr. Wolf, Matt's a pretty good guy overall and has handled a ton of attention better than most 20-22-year-olds. I don't like to see him going Hollywood but it is his life and it's his business... until now.

In checking with the NCAA, scholarship athletes are not to be given any perks, gifts, extras, etc. Anything produced by a scholarship athletes belong to USC. If declined by USC, then the NCAA takes position. Congrats go to USC....FIGHT ON MIGHTY TROY

I have heard of many reasons for red-shirting, but Wolfie isn't this the FIRST: red-shirt not for an injury but for being pregnant?

Maybe Matty was able to negotiate a higher signing bonus to provide for his son, and maybe a future wife. And good tax planning: having the kid in 2006 and another tax deduction!

If this is true,,I wish them the best in the future. I resent people tying this in with money and Matt's NFL career. Thats the same as calling her a prostitute which is really low class! This is not a laughing matter, people should take this much more seriously,,espcially that laughing cow Petros!

I wish them all the best. It's pretty sad that people are attacking Byrnn, please remember that she's a young college student and is expecting a child. I'm sure she's under enough stress without the extra attention.

This is not a one person deal, both parents played equal roles in the situation. How may USC football players have children? There seems to be a double-standard between male and female athletes who become parents.

BTW, it is not the first time a female college athlete has redshirted due to pregnancy. It may be a first ar USC, but it's not a first ever. And No, it will not be against NCAA regulations for her to receive appropriate support for the child.

I agree with Elizabeth's post. And I also think we've had enough "fun" with this topic, in my humble opinion.

We are in those murk waters of what is newsworthy and what isn't; what is ethical and what is borderline sleazy. Sure, People magazine may be running an article, but does that mean this is newsworthy? In a blog like this, I care more about how true freshmen are going to handle 72,000 rabid fans in Arkansas than the personal lives of a suddenly-rich rookie quaterback and a girl who not long ago was a minor and now has to deal with the issue of instant motherhood.
