Live Scrimmage
Here's a live recap of Thursday's scrimmage at the Coliseum:
John David Booty completes a 25-yard pass to Fred Davis, a 7-yard pass to Chris McCoy and 15-yard pass to Steve Smith.
C.J. Gable has a 12-yard run and Michael Coleman scored on a 3-yard run.
The second-team offense doesn't have much chance against the starting defense, with running plays futile. A blitz prevents Mark Sanchez time to throw on third down.
Booty throws three straight incompletions.
Sanchez throws a 16-yard pass to Vidal Hazelton, 17-yard pass to David Ausberry, a 12-yard pass to Jimmy Miller and a 7-yard pass to Anthony McCoy.
The reserves come in and Emmanuel Moody breaks off a 54-yard TD run.
Desmond Reed successfully fields two punts before Vincent Joseph roughs him on the third one.
Neither Booty nor Sanchez get anything on the next series, although Booty did complete a 17-yard pass to Patrick Turner.
Another series with Booty fizzles but the passing game is better than Sunday.
Sanchez's pass goes off Travon Patterson's hands and is intercepted by Oscar Lua, the forgotten man of training camp, who returns it for a TD. Although many fans expect Rey Maualuga to start, Lua is considered a leader by his teammates and a popular figure on defense.
Cary Harris returns two fairly long kickoffs against less-than-enthusiastic kickoff team members.
Stafon Johnson breaks a 20-yard run as plenty of reserves are in.
Booty's back but there's only incompletions against second defense.
Sanchez back against the 1's and it's three plays and out.
The second team defense is holding its own against the first team offense until Allen Bradford breaks a 16 yard TD run on 4th and 1.
Punt drills and Desmond Reed gets about a 28-yard return.
Vidal Hazelton makes a one handed catch for a 29 yard catch from Sanchez. Sanchez then throws a 28-yard touchdown pass to Brad Walker.
Moody tearing up reserves again with a 30 yard run.
Ausberry drops a 25-yard touchdown pass.
Moody scores on last play of scrimmage.

Once again, thanks Scott for your coverage!
Fight On!
Great coverage Scotty! Informative and Concise.
You noted that Holland is the LAST freshman to have his eligibility confirmed by the NCAA. When did Vidal Hazelton receive clearence?
Thanks for the coverage! Question: Why is the public scrimmage on Sunday taking place at 7:45 p.m.? Some of us have to get up early and work the next day. My kid has school. We had blast at last year's scrimmage which was held during fan-friendly daylight hours. Is Pete so ashamed of the special team's play that he doesn't want anyone to witness the carnage?
Aside from the QB play, the biggest question in camp is Lua vs. Maualuga. I just hope that doesn't become a distraction. Scott, is there any talk of moving either Lua or Rey so they both can play at same time?
ahhh ok, maybe I should have read this first before the stats summary page.. thanks for the update
RobofTroy....possibly consider that the Arkansas game will be played @8:45PM. This timing gives them a gamelike time sequence for the scrimmage. Just too bad that Pete cannot incorporate a 90% humidity for the scrum. So make your kids take a nap;-)
